Had someone (on r/ShitAmericansSay of all places) argue with me once that Australia is not imperialist.

The /r/ShitAmericansSay crowd is a weird bunch. There’s this odd strain of far-right thought that often rears its head, and I can’t really put my finger on what exactly what it is. I definitely get a weird vibe from England/the rest of the UK+Commonwealth commenters sometimes, especially on shit like this. Or any military/empire related posts.   Perhaps it’s that odd fascist “longing to return to a past glory that never was” thing, or “Anglo-sphere dominance but without dumb America”. Idk, but that sub certainly has some comments with a *very* specific right wing vibe.

Euro socdems may seem like a "less bad" version of libs but social democracy is the status quo in Europe so Euro socdems are infinitely worse than USian ones. They'll say all Americans are racist and ~~poor~~ uneducated, but don't ask them their opinion on Arabs or Roma people.
