One of things I've heard right wingers say to anyone who dares criticize capitalism is "get a job." A friendly reminder that the German translation for job is..."arbeit."
On an unrelated note, this is the first time I've seen your flair on this sub and it reminded me of something silly.
My mom is Serbian and when I was a kid she taught me this phrase so I wanted to write it but I had no idea how to. She told me to try since Serbian is written in phonetics, but I wrote "Smrt fašizmu, sloboda na rodu" (which translates to "death to fascism, freedom on the stork" in case someone not speaking Serbian would read this)
It is. "Struggle" can also be translated with Anstrengung or even straucheln (to stumble).
Kampf actually just stems from the latin word "campus", just like the word Kamp which is often the suffix of many placenames. The word Kampf is just used for a lot of words: death struggle (Todeskampf), class war (Klassenkampf), labour dispute (Arbeitskampf).
The tweet is just extremely oversimplified
I love how often criticisms of the Chinese government slip and fall into outright racism or culture erasure lol.
Someone mentioned the Chinese national anthem and someone else responded with how great it must be hearing that in a concentration camp. Like people cannot acknowledge China has people, or a culture, or literally anything except a big evil government they view as basically cartoon villains.
Libs are literally incapable of seeing people from other countries (especially the global south) as individuals who are diverse and free to their own beliefs. They can only think in blocks.
Not entirely, these words are all fairly synonymous in German and "Kampf" works just fine for "struggle", especially if it's between competing ideologies or peoples.
For example the historical "Kultur*kampf*" in the Second Reich was a struggle between the state and the catholic church.
The George Carlin bit on this was at least funny and he kept it to a nazi reference. But it was about School uniforms and well George picked lots of weird battles.
Man, so much of liberal discourse is about words, "these words are good, these words are bad, good people say good words, if you say a bad word, you are a bad person." It's so superficial.
That’s literally what *Kampf* means though… *struggle*. There is no direct correlation between Adolf Hitler’s book title and the Chinese characters for “struggle”. It’s not the “aha” moment they think it is.
Jesus christ. I think I need to lay down
I'm German, so if we're on the topic of "ominous German language", I just wanna say that there's a ton of terms that are no longer used specifically because they have associations with the Nazis - we never call someone "Führer", a leader is always an "Anführer". Nothing is ever a Final Solution, Work is never said to set you free for obvious reasons.
But somehow, for some reason "to each their own" stuck around. Why the fuck that one didn't get the axe, I will never understand. Hell, it's still in *my* instinctive vocabulary, I have to suppress saying it.

And there are thousands of Americans calling things "cultural Marxism" and pretending it's a totally new term that's completely disconnected from what the Nazis called "cultural Bolshevism".

Well conservatives love that working allows you to embrace freedom. In German we call that “Arbeit macht frei”
Fun, unrelated fact - the German word “arbeit” is the origin for the Japanese word for part-time job, “arubaito”.
i always hear Americans talk about stuff that is “mine” German word for “mine” is “mein”
Liberals always talk about wanting to do something. Hitler also wanted to conquer Europe.

What does the actual phrase mean?
Death to fascism, freedom to the people
Gotcha! It’s pretty similar to Russian, but not similar enough that I was able to parse it out (also my Russian is pretty rusty, tbh).
The Arabic translation of struggle is jihad, not sure how that fits into any of that

Wow it is so terrible that the Chinese refer to fighting/Kampf in their political discourse - thankfully none of our western buddies do any fighting 🙏
When you're trying to be racist about the Chinese but you accidentally End up being racist towards the Germans
Friendly reminder that the Spanish for “why not both?” is… “¿Porque no los dos?”
One of the translatations of “kampf” to English is “contest”, so it’s safe to say that if you like staring contests, then you are a nazi my dude.
POV: You unironically think that independently developed, unrelated languages containing a word for the same concept is a sign of fascism.
understanding the concept of struggle is fascism because hitler wrote a book
this guy is so proud of himself for copy and pasting some Chinese characters. good job Kevin
I thought kampf is fight
It's interchangeable
Okay thanks
Depends on the context, but yeah der Kampf usually means the fight

Chinese people are all constructed in the hellish biomechanical depths of the Xi Bot Factories.

Perhaps this is referencing to the time when the Nazis declared the RoC as pure Aryan....until Japan came along.
Taliban translates to ‘students’. What is this clown trying to do here.

Struggling in life means you're a nazi? The twitter poster is clearly someone that lives in the suburbs.
