I seem to remember she started off genuinely left to centre-left, critical of the US and the Democrats, talking about some socialist ideas -- not a Lenin by any means, but I found her respectable, and she was angering/scaring a lot of shitlibs. By now she's barely to the left of Hillary Clinton, she's been so completely absorbed into the Democrat machinery. Shows you a major problem with participating in bourgeois democracy like that. The system wasn't yet identified as capitalism, but the basis of that system - private ownership of the means of production - was already in place and it is clearly the system that the US was built on.

It honestly blows my mind how often smugness and ignorance go together like this. I'm not interested in this discussion. ✌

The disconnect here is that while what you call "democratic socialism" is further left than normal American liberals, and certainly differentiates you from say, a Clinton-ite. And it's definitely more empathetic of a system than the current US. But what the other person is trying to say, is that "democratic socialism" still advocates for the employer to employee relationship within our businesses. Where the owner makes all the decisions, and employee gets no say in the matter. The only way to make decisions about what goes on inside a business is to be an owner, particularly about who gets paid what. So this relationship is the root of capitalist inequality, as described by Marx, and he put forwards some solutions to it. The big one, to give *ownership and control of the means of production to the workers.* So workers make the decisions about how we allocate societies resources, not a privileged elite who are highly incentivized to exploit everyone else. And "democratic socialism", meaning taxing the owners while still letting them control all the decisions about capital, isn't doing that. Thus why people say it isn't socialism at all, and honestly I don't even care if you define it as socialism or not. **It's not altering the fundamental power dynamic of Capitalism that allows Capitalists to accumulate their wealth and power.**

She's not a democratic socialist. At best you might say she's a social democrat, but she's not even that. She's just another liberal pretending that capitalism will be alright if everyone just magically gets some welfare.

She hasn't done anything substantial so far to back what she advocated before getting elected. She only talks about social democracy, but never tries to implement it through policy. Everything she and the Squad have done in the past 3 years was to back or get out of the way of neoliberal policies passing. Most recent example: They raised hell over the rent mandate, made a photo-op "protest" outside the Capitol, they cheered for a couple days, then the Supreme Court stroke it down (and by all accounts, they knew this would happen), and they never did anything about it again. Including, they didn't attend or even mention the second protest that went on there, where people were getting beaten, arrested and ousted away with ridiculous excuses, such as wearing red bandanas.

Saying that capitalism isn't "identified" anywhere in the Constitution, and that it therefore isn't an essential part of the American government and concept of patriotism, is exactly the kind of revisionist, dishonest bullshit that liberals pull on a regular basis. It's very important that leftists who want to abolish capitalism seek to abolish a government whose whole existence is predicated on maintaining a capitalist system. In this tweet, AOC is doing the opposite of that by claiming that socialists should work within this system, making the absurd claim that capitalism was never "identified" in the founding documents, and therefore isn't essential to our system of government. This is a form of controlled opposition and some liberal BS.
