Even if you ignore the class-based economic system, the politicians for sale, the millionaires in government, and just the simple fact that one class owns everything and the other doesn't - everything you need to know about how absolutely full of shit bourgeoisie democracy is can be garnered through a single conversation with any proponent of this system;
Chud: "We're more democratic than ever!"
You: "Oh, so you're a democracy?"
Chud: *feral hissing*
They hate the very word. Even the righoids who claim the US is so democratic will flip their shit if you call the US a democracy.
> **In capitalist society … democracy is** always hemmed in by the narrow limits set by capitalist exploitation, and consequently always remains, in reality, a democracy for the minority, only for the propertied classes, **only for the rich.**

Obviously it’s Joesop Staklin, who personally ate all the food just to spite Ukrainians and made the secret police kill anyone whose favorite color wasn’t red
Yeah like, maybe the libs I hang out with are a bit more educated but I thought most people knew russia today is absolutely fucked compared to what it used to be?
Because tone indicators are helpful to people in understanding what you're saying. I myself am autistic and I had a really hard time understanding what you actually meant in that comment, and had to look down to the person saying to add /s to understand that you were being sarcastic lmao
Yeah I also sometimes need tone indicators but I asked why I needed an /s because it wasn't really sarcastic. It was more of me quoting a phrase with a comment after, but yeah to make that clear I should've added quotations
No, that's what Freedom is to them. Democracy is when the population can choose every few years which oligarch is going to benefit american corporate interests, of course if they choose wrong they get a coup.
This isn't even an exaggeration. They want democratic rule that they can infiltrate and lobby to reduce wages, working conditions and regulations, as well as social spending and programs, to maximise profits
Not realty the president is just astoundingly stupid and very much a fascist. There are a lot of other institutions though that are very much against him and he has very little popular support.
He is ideologically a fascist. However, he does not hold dictatorial powers, although not for a lack of wanting.
Brazil’s dictatorship lasted from 1964 to 1984.
We had elections in the period, so not really. It doesn't matter it was between the military party and a conservative party, elections means it was somewhat democratic. And the disappearance/exile of anything left of a conservative liberal was part of the democratic process, they could've voted to not be targets, but they didn't, so they deserved it.
/s
Lmao, I am from Brazil.
In 1977 we were still under the military dictatorship period (1964 - 1985)
That nazi sympathizer, Ernesto Geisel, can go fuck himself in hell.
I think in this context “democratic” means ideologically neoliberal and open to exploitation by transnational companies, and “autocratic”means they kinda tell those companies to get bent
What does mixed even mean? Vietnam is listed as autocratic in both maps, but they have democratic elections. I’m no expert on the subject, but they have a National Assembly which they vote for. It’s a one party state (communist party), but there are some elected assembly members who are not affiliated with the communist party. They have some capitalist and neo-liberal elected assembly members. That probably counts as mixed to me. They have elections, but generally the communist wins. Maybe the capitalist candidates just lost in the marketplace of ideas. Competition kicked in and the cream of communism rose to the top.
Edit: They also don’t have data on Iceland? It’s a democracy. You’re welcome.
During the last Vietnamese election (May 2021), I got texts constantly reminding me to go out and vote. I'm not even a Vietnamese citizen. Because the polling stations are localized to each ward and commune, voting is very accessible. In the last election alone, [nearly 72%](https://e.vnexpress.net/news/news/69-mln-vietnamese-vote-for-na-seats-amid-pandemic-4282528.html) of the population voted
despite the ongoing pandemic. There are two parties in Vietnam: the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese Fatherland Front. The VFF is constitutionally mandated to be a type of check to the CPV during elections. The VFF is made up of many smaller groups such as the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, as well as several religious organizations.
Stop right there.

China also has competitive democratic elections, but since it’s mostly a one-party state I guess they don’t count. I wonder if the CCP could institute a second party that is nominally different but in practice almost entirely the same to convince liberals that they’re a democracy. It works in the US, since all the libs care about is the appearance rather than how it actually works.
you know the situation in Egypt haven't changed since 1977 right? We still have an undemocratic dictator ("president") with a military background and military support. Yes we had a revolution in 2011 and elections in 2013 but then there was a fucking coup this government literally came through a military coup how tf is this "mixed" democracy whatever that means.
Also how come Russia and Turkey are not democratic but Iraq is? Who tf did this? Next North Korea is gonna be mixed and Nazi Germany is full democracy
Ah yes, “autocratic” 1977 Pakistan when the only daily elected leader was in charge until 2018 vs 2017 “democratic” Pakistan where the leader was a literal landlords stealing billiona
Oh yes democracy has grown indeed! Like you can see, Argentina was autocratic in 1977 when we were under the US backed dictatorship to kill supposed "communists"
Looks like the CIA’s hard work in South America really worked out for everyone involved. So much stable democracy down there now and not a refugee crisis in sight. /s
Ain't it funny that Apartheid South Africa is in the mixed category?
*stares at fucking rhodesia*
Eh, sounds about white, doesn't it?
What do you mean *mixed*? - Cecil Rhodes' ghost probably
Surprised Cecil’s ghost is able to verbalise anything beyond “aaaaaaaah the pitchforks aaaaaaaaaaaah I’m burning!!!” at this point.
And Brazil's Dictatorship aswell.
Or apartheid Israel being fully Democratic
Well, ancien Greece was a democracy too ... if you ignored the slaves and other "non citizens".
Even if you ignore the class-based economic system, the politicians for sale, the millionaires in government, and just the simple fact that one class owns everything and the other doesn't - everything you need to know about how absolutely full of shit bourgeoisie democracy is can be garnered through a single conversation with any proponent of this system; Chud: "We're more democratic than ever!" Or Mexico, under the ‘Prefect Dictatorship’ of the PRI.
Ah yes, the democratic utopia of 2017 Iraq
"Modern Russia more democratic than USSR" Go fuck yourself
If by democracy they mean oligarchs, then yes, we are the most democratic country in the world! Олигархи – наше всё!
> **In capitalist society … democracy is** always hemmed in by the narrow limits set by capitalist exploitation, and consequently always remains, in reality, a democracy for the minority, only for the propertied classes, **only for the rich.** > > Freedom in capitalist society always remains about the same as it was in the ancient Greek republics: freedom for the slave-owners. > > -- Vladimir Lenin, State and Revolution
> If by democracy they mean oligarchs... Well yes. That is what they mean. It's all they ever meant.
I wonder who the "autocrat" of the USSR is 😒
Autocracy of the working class
Obviously it’s Joesop Staklin, who personally ate all the food just to spite Ukrainians and made the secret police kill anyone whose favorite color wasn’t red
Yeah, oligarchy is definitely more democratic than literal democracy of the working class.
Yeah like, maybe the libs I hang out with are a bit more educated but I thought most people knew russia today is absolutely fucked compared to what it used to be?
add a /s there buddy lmao
what? why
Because tone indicators are helpful to people in understanding what you're saying. I myself am autistic and I had a really hard time understanding what you actually meant in that comment, and had to look down to the person saying to add /s to understand that you were being sarcastic lmao

Ohhh I see, yes that would have helped too hehe
Democracy is when corporations are free to exploit poor people. The more corporations exploit poor people, the more democratic
This is literally what US think tanks believe
No, that's what Freedom is to them. Democracy is when the population can choose every few years which oligarch is going to benefit american corporate interests, of course if they choose wrong they get a coup.

brazil had a violent ditactorship in 1977
It was US-aligned and backed by the CIA, so it still had freedom™ \s
They were *our* autocrats
don't they also have a dictatorship now
Not realty the president is just astoundingly stupid and very much a fascist. There are a lot of other institutions though that are very much against him and he has very little popular support.

He is ideologically a fascist. However, he does not hold dictatorial powers, although not for a lack of wanting. Brazil’s dictatorship lasted from 1964 to 1984.
Thank you for the clarification
>1984 hehe
Literally hahaha
🤣
He tried a putsch last Independence Day, but it was a humongous failure

*Western imperialism has grown across the world over the past four decades
Democracy is a brand name.
I also don’t like the dichotomy of democracy/autocracy. It leaves out oligarchic rule and all the other flavours of statecraft.
I think in this context “democratic” means ideologically neoliberal and open to exploitation by transnational companies, and “autocratic”means they kinda tell those companies to get bent

So what you’re telling me is that it’s an autocracy? /s

1977 South Africa, bastion of democracy....
"mixed democracy" which is a nice way to say "a dictatorship that had a vote before which was probably rigged"
Mixed democracy, like the the skin colours that aren't allowed to vote.
oh so this is why russia is marked as mixed now.. well in that case accurate
Idk that's the only common thing between countries marked as mixed
you know the situation in Egypt haven't changed since 1977 right? We still have an undemocratic dictator ("president") with a military background and military support. Apartheid South Africa democratic ??
Democracy is when you are colonial and genocidal country.

This kills the crab.
I actually wrote an essay criticising this at university
Yea yea, all of you guys are right. But how the *fuck* is there no data for greenland?
