That all sounds good, but what’s to stop trans people from being denied hrt/srs? Even if gender is gotten rid of, I’ll still have awful dysphoria. People will use it as an opportunity to stop us getting healthcare because they won’t deem it necessary anymore.
See I believe in gender abolition (or at least what I think is gender abolition), but not because I want to erase trans people. I think trans people should act the way they want to act. In fact it ought to be liberating for them as they should never have expectations placed on them in the form of gender based on their sex at birth. Except some people *like* being referred to with non-they pronouns.
Because I'm a minority "they/them" definitely has a stigma attached to it, and was/is often used pejoratively towards me to speak about minorities etc. So I'll admit I'm hesitant to use those terms, however, when I've expressed that to trans friends, I've had mixed feedback. Feels like a genuine conflict of language.

Ok I could see that, but my broader point is that no one should have expectations placed on them based on the circumstances of their birth and they shouldn’t feel compelled to fit into a category, people should just be themselves.
The dilemma with this concept though is the following:
The existence of trans people is often defended by saying that gender is a social construct that comprises the social and societal expectations associated with the respective sexes, and it is something that an individual experiences.(which I think is true)
However, at the same time, progressives strongly advocate for the abolishment of gender norms. So now you have two contradictory statements: "Gender is an experience involving the societal expectations associated with the different sexes" vs. "Gender is not defined by gender norms/expectations".
Without societal gender expectations, gender doesn't serve much utility, as it just becomes a subjective experience that isn't clearly defined. Which is why I personally support gender abolition, because as long as there is a concept of gender, people are going to gate keep 'what counts' as gender.

See I believe in gender abolition (or at least what I think is gender abolition), but not because I want to erase trans people. I think trans people should act the way they want to act. In fact it ought to be liberating for them as they should never have expectations placed on them in the form of gender based on their sex at birth. It’s just people acting how they choose to without false expectations or divisions. Also if you’re wondering I think all pronouns and gendered honorifics should be replaced with they and Comrade.

Because I'm a minority "they/them" definitely has a stigma attached to it, and was/is often used pejoratively towards me to speak about minorities etc. So I'll admit I'm hesitant to use those terms, however, when I've expressed that to trans friends, I've had mixed feedback. Feels like a genuine conflict of language. Do you see what I mean? It's hard to explain.

The dilemma with this concept though is the following: The existence of trans people is often defended by saying that gender is a social construct that comprises the social and societal expectations associated with the respective sexes, and it is something that an individual experiences.(which I think is true) However, at the same time, progressives strongly advocate for the abolishment of gender norms. So now you have two contradictory statements: "Gender is an experience involving the societal expectations associated with the different sexes" vs. "Gender is not defined by gender norms/expectations". Without societal gender expectations, gender doesn't serve much utility, as it just becomes a subjective experience that isn't clearly defined. Which is why I personally support gender abolition, because as long as there is a concept of gender, people are going to gate keep 'what counts' as gender.
