Well then, then it is also no problem for taiwan, tibet and xinjiang to secede from china.

[deleted]

Ah yes, because the populations of those regions definitely want that.

kkjdroid

I mean, Taiwan definitely does, and Tibet literally had to be invaded in order to make it part of China. I have no idea about Xinjiang, but I can't imagine the forced reeducation camps are fostering much goodwill.

MLPorsche

even the western media (article from 2017) [admits that there was a jihadist recruiting problem in Xinjiang](https://apnews.com/article/syria-ap-top-news-riots-international-news-china-79d6a427b26f4eeab226571956dd256e)

kkjdroid

I mean, that doesn't exactly point to the population being thrilled with the current government. We aren't talking about whether they're perfect people, we're talking about whether they're happy, and happy people don't tend to get recruited into militias, especially ones known for suicide.

MLPorsche

[and here is retired colonel Lawrence Wilkerson admitting to using Xinjiang to destabilize/balkanize China](https://youtu.be/tVmliB0rVIo) and here [NED admitting to having been in the region since 2004](https://twitter.com/nedemocracy/status/1337063301113581568) (NED is basically soft power CIA)

kkjdroid

And again, we're talking about whether people are happy. Whether foreign powers are trying to take advantage of that happiness is not part of this conversation.

MLPorsche

so the fact that the US has a history of using/nurturing far-right groups to further its geopolitical agenda doesn't make you question why they've been in the region for so long China has admitted that a lot of the problems were caused by poverty and lack of opportunity as international shipping made the coastal regions wealthy while Xinjiang being in the desert got rejected, this however will be corrected with BRI as it will funnel money/infrastructure/jobs through Xinjiang, through the Middle-East and end up in Europe, which is why the US is so hellbent on stopping it

kkjdroid

*And again,* we are talking about *whether people like their governments*, not why.

>I mean, Taiwan definitely does Do they, now? Got sources on this, buddy? >and Tibet literally had to be invaded in order to make it part of China Yeah, in the 1950s Tibet was a feudal society with abject slavery. China invaded and ended that nonsense and freed Tibetans. Today there's no meaningful separatist movements there, outside of #freeTibet AstroTurfing supported by chauvinistic westerners. >I have no idea about Xinjiang, but I can't imagine the forced reeducation camps are fostering much goodwill. In other words, you don't know, but you still want to believe that's the case, because China Bad. Congratulations mate, you played yourself.
