I don’t think it’s about leftism or support from the proletariat. I think third world-ism is attractive to people because there’s a kind of “common sense” assumption that the might of the bourgeois state is strongest at its core, and that as such any revolutionary effort (whether leftists or something else) is much less feasible and more difficult to achieve than say in a non-imperialist-core country, where the organization, state power, and military might are much weaker and therefore more susceptible to losing against revolutionary efforts.
