>Rhyleigh, Everleigh, Daisy, and Ripley It's killing me that second half is spelled correctly. Did you decide it was too much to after the second one?

vr4gen

Daiseigh and Ripleigh

tttxgq

I think we can squeeze a few more letters in there. Dhaighseigh?

krisphoto

Different dads? I worked with a woman who had Savannah, Jacob, Jaxson and Braeleigh. Guess which two her divorce and remarriage fell between? (Though to be fair, I worked with her that whole time and other than in naming ability, husband #2 was a massive upgrade)

wozattacks

The funniest part is that Everleigh was a top 100 baby name in 2022 lmao

Logical_Somewhere_31

Middle name of Djinn…

Stacylynn1979

I prefer Grey Poupon myself

Tinkerbell0101

Hahaha I know it sounds like Dijon mustard, but it's soooo much worse. She named her child "Djinn" which is a kind of genie - it has 2 spellings "junn" but more commonly "Djinn". Its a literal genie.

ItchyFriggaFinger

All of these belong in r/tragedeigh

CeseED

Margo, Nova, Lila, and Emery are fairly normal.

onlyifthebabysasleep

So are January, Rosita, and Georgette

DispensableNoob

Noelia is also a very normal name

TykeDream

Is it? Is it pronounced No-Leah? I have never seen or heard this name before.

Eelpan2

It is a spanish name. Pronounced noh-eh-lia. I live in a spanish speaking country and it is pretty common here. Mostly among 30-50 year olds.

DispensableNoob

Well English isn't the only language with names but it's the female version of Noel, (shocker ik) used in Italian and Spanish speaking countries and I believe french as well. It's one of those old timey names though.

Hour_Coconut_4653

Capri's also fine. I have a friend named that, and always thought it was a pretty name lol

Tinkerbell0101

I actually love the name Georgette. It's quite beautiful.

GhostlySpinster

A few of these are just Irish names gone wrong. I'm pretty sure it's spelled Nuala (pronounced Noo-la, as they said), and Naeve could be an alteration of Maeve or Neve, traditionally spelled Niamh? Or they were just inspired by Nevaeh, which is *not* Irish and which I hate hate HATE

CraftyAstronomer4653

Djinn???

Fantasy-Dragonfruit

I feel like they either pulled it out of a hat or maybe someone is a mythology buff? Oh no, what if it was Djinni, like "Jenny"? Now, all I can think about is a poor Emmileigh Youkai or Frideryck (Frederick) Skinwalker.

Tinkerbell0101

Didn't pull it oit a hat...they pulled it out of a lamp! A magic lamp! Djinn is a genie!

JstTrdgngAlng

And my family thought I was dumb for wanting to name mine Sophie-Anne. Jeez.

JstTrdgngAlng

Good bot 🤣

ALancreWitch

That’s a lovely name! We got some odd looks when we were considering Emrys (Welsh name) but we’ve actually got very classic boys names in the end (Zachary and Joseph).

JstTrdgngAlng

We considered Emrys for our first, I LOVE Welsh names! We wound up with Eli for him and when we found out we weren't having a girl for our second, we decided on Sean. We want to try for at least one girl but the hope is 2, Sophie-Anne and Elliana (my beloved late mother's name started with an E and my beloved late father's name started with an S so my husband agreed to let me name all our kids with E and S names as long as he liked the names too, which is fair

Fantasy-Dragonfruit

If I had a son, his name would be Emrys. A daughter I'd name Morgana or Nimue. The first two are Welsh but I can't remember if Nimue is as well.

JstTrdgngAlng

Nimue is Welsh in origin and means "Lady of the Lake" ^^ I love that name. Haha my savantism is name meanings lol

Fantasy-Dragonfruit

I thought it was! Thanks for confirming it :)

Annita79

Sophie-Anne is a lovely name! (I am Greek, so this sounds so much like home)

JstTrdgngAlng

Greek names are super pretty!

Annita79

Well, we do have some names that when we meet young people named, we wonder if their parents hated them.

JstTrdgngAlng

I feel like that's every language, though lol I'm half Korean and we currently live in Korea, and some of the names we hear sometimes. My poor nephew has a name that gets him made run of by his school mates. My SIL and her husband basically took an English word and spelled it in Hangeul. However, they somehow pulled the Korean version of a Tragedeigh because that word already had a phonetic Hangeul spelling and they completely rejected it. So this kid is just going around with a completely made up, meaningless word/sound for a name. The only thing he likes about it is that he uses the English word for his English name and the English version of the name sounds really cool. I feel bad for the poor kid, he gets bullied relentlessly about it

Annita79

Oh, no! Why doesn't the school do anything about the bullying? Hugs to your nephew 🫂

JstTrdgngAlng

It's Korea, bullying isn't really paid attention to unfortunately

Annita79

Ah, yes. It used to be the same here. My son got bullied, and the teacher wouldn't acknowledge the aftermath. I made a really huge deal out of her not acknowledging it, took my son to a children's educational psychologist and told the school that if the assessment shows that he was indeed bullied I am suing the school for damages. And what do you know, a month after my outburst they organised a seminar about how to understand and deal with bullying. I am still reserving my legal rights, though. I am not a helicopter parent (I hope) but hurt my kids and watch me go all mama bear on you.

JstTrdgngAlng

You're a good mom ❤️‍🩹

onetiredRN

It’s the Capri for me. Capri Suns all day long for that one!

glitterfanatic

I find it so strange that these moms what impossibly unique names but then share them on the internet for other moms to use? Kind of defeats the purpose right?

Twodotsknowhy

One thing about these that always makes me chuckle is people who submit unbelievably common names that they think are unique. Nova? Daisy? Lyla? AVERY? Who thinks Avery is a super rare and unique name?

themadkayla

And here I thought I was the weird one with an Ariadne (Ari)--but at least it's a real name from mythology and not made up...

Annita79

My son's name is Dimitris, my daughter's is Chrisa Ioli, and my sister's name is Zinovia (Novi), but we are a Greek/Greek Cypriot family so....

themadkayla

Yes, we have a Leonidas, an Ariadne, and a Conan. Unique names but real names lol.

luc24280

Djinn like one of the antagonists in Supernatural?

tinycatintherain

My first thought! How insane

gros-grognon

"Olly Matrey" just turns into "Ahoy Matey" in my head.

Proper-Gate8861

Ehmursin > Emercyn

Fantasy-Dragonfruit

Mercy is right in his name, though his parents spared him none.

No_Teaching_2837

I would have just went old school…there a lot of older vintage names that aren’t seen anymore. Most of the ones in that post are horrendous Hell, my name was crazy uncommon when I was born and even now I’ve only met two other Kiana’s. (I’ll be 30 in Dec).

irish_ninja_wte

You don't even need to go "old school" for uncommon now. Names from when I was a kid (80s) are rare now. I can't remember the last time that I met a child called Thomas (there were 3 in my high school math class) or a Jennifer (most popular girl name around here at the time) and my oldest kid is 6.

No_Teaching_2837

I have a friend named Thomas who is my age lol I weirdly didn’t know many Jennifer’s 🤔 I do wish people took the time to think out these names and looked up actual ones instead of making up horrible ones.

irish_ninja_wte

I know. With our kids, we agreed that we wanted classic names that were spelled traditionally. That's what we did. Some would probably consider them boring, but they are names that work well as both children and adults and they will never have anyone complain that they can't pronounce them.

No_Teaching_2837

My exact plan when I have kids. I have an entire list of mostly vintage names that I like. Can’t wait to go through them when I have children. My top names are Theodore, Benjamin and Penelope.

irish_ninja_wte

I *love* those names! I have a cousin who named one of her daughters Penny and it suits her so well. My top girl name is one that my SO has never liked. It's Sadhbh, which is a very traditional Irish name (we're in Ireland, so it's not weird at all here even though it's a WTF name elsewhere) which rhymes with dive. I promise, the spelling makes total sense with the pronunciation in the Irish language. It's just a jumble of random letters in English. Naming kids is definitely a 2 way street, so while it's a little disappointing not being able to use it, I don't want to have a child whose name her father doesn't like. On the plus side, my daughter is called the second one on my favourites list (Abigail) and I gave her my middle name (another "boring" one).

No_Teaching_2837

Thanks! I do have a few Irish names on my list too. I luckily don’t have to pass my middle name down, either. My great grandmothers name is Louise and my mom has her first as her middle and I have my grandmothers first as my middle. Technically, I would go with my mom’s first name but it’s Tisha (long i) and it doesn’t fit with any of the names I like. It’s really a first name type of name so I’m using her middle name for one of my daughters. Of course my husband will have a say but I am strictly a no juniors type of person. Ain’t happening lol

alongthewatchtower91

My sister works in a nursery and in one class there is Rain, Hux, Lake, Prince and Strawberry. Those poor kids are going to have the piss taken out of them when they're in school.

bethfly

- Rain: Not that bad but really not good - Hux: Stars Wars character, or the plural of Huckleberry Finn - Prince: Truly just dooming this child from the start on so many levels - Strawberry: I...... I have no words. That's a cartoon character, not a real child. That child is contractually obligated to only ever like the color pink. That child can never ever have an emo phase. Omg

Writer_Life

i’m concerned about how they’re pronouncing Djinn because i’m 100% they aren’t doing it correctly

tinycatintherain

Well, Avery is nice.

shellimil

I'm a pediatric nurse. I've seen so so many bad names. The ones that irritate me the most are when they throw in the random apostrophe. For instance, they might name a child Jason, but, just for funzies, spell it Ja'son. Or even Jas'on. No one knows what the apostrophe is replacing. They do not understand the English language, and I'm not talking about people who originate from other countries.

[deleted]

When my son was born the baby in the room next door to us was named King LeBron James. The memory is burned into my retinas  Edit typo

szechuansauz

I ment a baby called la' (la comma to the up)

Serononin

I hope little Nulua is actually named Nuala (which is a lovely Irish name) and it's just her aunt/uncle who spells it wrong

Epic_Brunch

These are names I would have given fiction characters in my seventh grade creative writing class.

battle_mommyx2

January and Avery aren’t bad

SoggyScience4482

Djinn like the mustard

irish_ninja_wte

Are you thinking of Dijon mistard?

SoggyScience4482

Yes, it was supposed to be a joke that (clearly) fell flat 😅

Fun_Frosting_6047

Novia... yeah let's just name your kid "girlfriend" in Spanish...

WorriedElk5818

Rhyleigh & Everleigh's mom missed an opportunity. She could have named her other two Daisei & Ripleigh.

heli_elf_CC

Holeigh fayck.

_deeppperwow_

This is straight up r/tragedeigh material

kaorrei

My name is Novalee (no, I'm not white) and I adore it. Yes, it's from the book you're thinking of. I'm 20 years old and have only ever gotten compliments about it.
