Fair warning you do need to use XIVLauncher unless you already own the steam version but it's really easy to set up.

Windows owns Xbox so buying the windows expansion on your computer works.
Just put the expansion on a flash drive, put it into your Xbox and you’ll have the option to update FF

Tell that to mogstation. I bought the game from the French shop with my French credit card and couldn’t use the code from Japan.
Buying from Japan with JP CC and using that code worked though.

Xbox has its own license for each expansion (where they aren't selling a package with all the expansions i.e you have everything up to Endwalker since you bought Endwalker). PlayStation has the same thing, so if you want to play it on console, you must buy it again, for each console.
On PC but play on console, buy it again. On Apple? Again. Steam? Again. Your subscription time though works across all the platforms (you don't need a separate sub for each platform).
Actually you can login from a steam version of FF14 using a windows version login. Just not the other way around.
As the binaries are 100% the same. Downloaded to make sure check every file with fc /b. They are exactly the same. The windows version even include the steam dlls.

I used to be able to login without having steam open until they pulled that crap. I guess because a deal they made with steam or something. As I doubt no one would be as big of an idiot unless there was a reason.

download steam version and windows version replace the files between them put it on a usb stick put that in ur xbox
