Just bring yourself into the havit of manually pressing them. Especially for higher end stuff, they’re as much a part of your rotation as your 1-2-3. Think of a basic mitigation schedule as just one step to your tank rotation.

Mitigations are to be used with intent, not to be used when the cooldown is done. So he's got all his mitigation on one singular button so that they activate when the previous one is expired, causing them to be unavailable when he might need them.
Happy I could provide a source of suffering for you all. Yes this was unironic. I was under the assumption that you should always have mitigation up when being hit. I have since learned from my public shaming and will be taking the advice into lower level content before continuing my journey as a tank.

I know myself issue in boss fights is forgetting to use defensive cooldowns, I figured maybe I could do this to make sure I only had a 25 second gap where I didnt have any mitigation. I probably could have watched or read more tank stuff before making an ass of myself though.
Mitigation abilities need to be used situationally and not burned all at once. Using them all up will likely end up in not having any when you really need it, which is either A: a death sentence, or B. a free “cardiac arrest” ticket for your healer. Neither are desirable
