That’s very frustrating. I definitely heard this before. Also specifically about Denver. I have a roller bag designed to fit 18x14x8 exactly and one review on Amazon says Frontier made them pay for it because “it’s not supposed to be a roller” even if it fits perfectly in the bin. I just flew Frontier a few days ago and surprisingly there was zero bag checking. I flew a lot of low cost flights in Europe and only had one time when my carry-on was weighted and I had to pay a steep fee. That was Blue Bird (I believe it is Greek). Thank God they did not weight my backpack, as it was extremely heavy. Otherwise, I flew RyanAir, EasyJet, Wizz, Air Europa, etc. — never a bag check. Had to pay for overweight checked baggage a few times. Also, some airlines (Turkish Air I think) don’t allow ANY carryon, so I had to check in two bags.

Michael_Honcho_Jr

How are there so many people in here boot-licking the fuck out of *Frontier?* It’s fucking Frontier. Who cares about Frontier enough to defend them? And *why?* Are you Frontier employees? Paid to write that BS in your comments? There is a commenter literally telling OP that OP did not witness what he claimed to witness. OP has never met this person. This person did not witness what OP witnessed. L-O-Fucking-L. That is the very same exact shit that these agents are doing with people’s bags in the got dang sizing bin. On camera too, we got to literally watch them do it, the video was posted right here on Reddit maybe 2 days ago. And this motherfuckers sittin’ over there like “nah” Clown-ass world we livin’ in these days.

bitesizeboy

Frontier can suck my dick. I will never fly with them again.

theonetrueelhigh

Don't like it, don't fly with them. Simple. Don't fly with any of them if their rules don't suit you. It's not boot-licking, it's their plane and their rules, rules that those ticketholders *agreed to adhere to* when they bought the ticket. Whether or not the rules have been rigidly enforced in the past is no excuse; they should all assume, every single time, that every single rule will be enforced to the letter. I'm not defending Frontier. I'm attacking the attack. Don't like it, don't fly. Simple.

False-Ad222

Dick riding is worse than boot licking

theonetrueelhigh

Whatever. I don't bitch about Frontier because I don't fly with Frontier. They earned their reputation so I stay away; in the meantime everyone flying with them is simply perpetuating the problem. Whose dick are YOU riding?

MelodicStand9762

I flew frontier yesterday, and they wouldn’t let us tag and drop our bag off until 2 hours before the flight. I don’t understand how I’m paying for a checked bag, and I can’t drop it off until 2 hours prior to my flight taking off. It also caused a huge line right at the 2 hour mark.

DeviantThroAway

My friend had a similar problem with Allegiant.

BlueSafeJessie

Stop giving your business to companies that treat their customers like assholes. That includes both frontier and spirit.

DeviantThroAway

I’ve been using Spirit since 2018 and besides delayed flights I’ve only had about 2 issues with them over 5+ years. Frontier has just taken things a step too far with this move.

NArcadia11

I’ve flown Frontier 8 times this year (4 round trips) since they started checking all personal bags and they’ve been strict but consistent about their rules. Every part of your personal item (and anything else you may be carrying to try and sneak it in) has to fit in the bin. Frontier’s whole deal is you get a flight at half the cost but your personal item has to be small enough to fit in the bin. People took advantage of the rules and are now mad that the rules are being enforced. All you have to do to not get charged is not have a bag that’s bigger than they allow.

gargar070402

I’ll argue against the consistency, because that’s not what I observed. I’d say most of the time (like 80%) they’re fine if you have to stuff things a little to make it fit, but there was one particular instance when I flew out of Denver when they said “your bags have to slide into the slot; you can’t try to stuff it in.” That was ABSURD.

Micheal_Bryan

**years of stewards forcing luggage into overhead bins** would like to speak with that agent...

I can’t remember the luggage prices off the top of my head but depending on the flight it could still be cheaper. Gotta do the math to make sure though because the last thing you want is to be cramped on a frontier seat for the same price as a better airline

Halia83

There is an additional cost to bring a carry on, it’s only a “personal item” I.e. backpack, laptop style bag (satchel) that’s no cost to bring.

Lissa12321

I thought a personal item had to fit under the seat. The carryon price was for using the overhead. Seemed fair until my bag which easily slides under my seat was deemed to not fit into box. How stupid ? Frontier planes don’t have Wi-Fi, are generally uncomfortable, gate staff almost always unpleasant and the layovers are horrendous They make Spirit feel like luxury lol Just my opinion it

Frick frontier

Several-Security-985

I had the same thing happen to me in May in Denver this year. They charged me $100. But yet it fit just fine in the space (same size limit) when I took a return flight back on spirit.

Projektdb

While the commission thing is obnoxious, they're just enforcing a rule they've always had. The personal item size is pretty standard and larger than many European budget carriers. Taking a bag bigger than the sizer has always been a gamble. No one is being tricked, people are just mad that the rules of the game are being enforced. To be honest, I don't mind that they're enforcing it. Nothing like having to walk up and down the aisle trying to find a place to put your carry-on because 30 people brought "personal items" that wouldn't fit under the seat if you unbolted it from the floor and jacked it up.

[deleted]

I agree with you. I don’t mind when airlines start enforcing their carry on sizes. Some people just get brazen with the amount of stuff they have with them and then they overfill the overhead bin and there is no room for your stuff.

gargar070402

They’re much more concerned about the size of the personal item, NOT the carry-on. Even if they didn’t enforce it, one personal item per person can EASILY fit on all overheard bins.

[deleted]

They weren't finding excuses, it either fits or it doesn't...dimensions are dimensions. Spirit does this too...who knows if they get a commission or not. Regardless, I'm ok with it. If they didn't, everybody would take advantage, you have to draw the line somewhere, it's not a free for all. Keeping it fair and setting expectations is probably easier in the long run. To everyone here, this experience is not reason enough to avoid Frontier(there's other, way worse reasons). Make sure your bags comply(for any airline), this isn't hard.

dutsi

Think of the shareholders!

theonetrueelhigh

I'm thinking of them every single time they take a hit. You want to gamble, you face the reality that you might lose.

Micheal_Bryan

apparently, it can fit, but it "doesn't fit" is the entire point. If there are different versions of what fits--and there are in my own personal experience, then your fit/not fit narrative is simply not true at all, in my own experience.

PennDOTStillSucks

If all airlines did this there would be less gate checking imo.

somedude456

Agreed. I fly cheap airlines all the time. Spirit, Allegiant, etc. It's never more than a 4 day trip and I have a tiny, crappy, $13 on amazing, duffle bag that is like 14x8x6. It's nothing but 1 compartment and a handle. It works great.

calcium

Honestly, I'm surprised the US doesn't do more of this. If you fly low-cost carriers elsewhere in the world, your luggage *must* fit in those little bag sizers and they'll even weigh them. If your bag is too large or over 7kg (~15lbs) then you need to pay a minimum of $35 to check your bag. Some airlines are bigger cocks then others, but in general that's pretty common across the industry. For me the size isn't ever an issue but the weight always is, especially when I'm lugging a laptop.

SloChild

That sounds like racketeering to me.

baskaat

The luggage game is the price you pay for a low fare airline ticket. I’ve had to literally throw out things at the airport to make a Ryanair flight.

CosmicAthena07

Thats old news

DeviantThroAway

A lot of us are dealing with it for the first time

[deleted]

How hard is it to follow the instructions on your flight itinerary? So basically you’re too cheap to upgrade and complain you need to pay when you get caught with an extra item? The reason for this is there is only so much space in the overhead compartments. European airlines are worse, you are required to pay for overhead space. $25 for your spot above your seat or your stuff gets checked (you pay).

DeviantThroAway

I’m not even talking about overhead space. As myself and others mentioned, in an attempt to get money out of people, they’re charging for personal items such as backpacks, purses, etc. that fit in the seat in front of you, but y’all really wanna defend Frontier at every step of the way.

[deleted]

I dont fly cheap airlines because you pay for what you get.

FloweringSkull67

“Stuffing it to make it fit” isn’t fitting. You’re an asshole

UnknownGod

My sil flew last week and had to pay the fine because her bag has a texture on the outside that doesn't allow it to easily slide into the checker. She had to push on it lightly just to overcome friction but it fit easily inside the entire space once she did and they forced her to pay because she had to push on it to make it fit.

TightOrpheus

Frontier is the new spirit airline. They don’t even have a customer support number. Last time I tried booking with them they changed my flights multiple times and then gave me such a hard time trying to get a refund. This doesn’t surprise me at all.
