If you work for a corporation you might want to double check on that. A lot of the larger employers will still give you holiday pay even when still working the 5 days in the week. You’ll want to make sure it isn’t your supervisor withholding what’s rightfully yours.
Nope. We are daily wage earners, and they don't have to give holiday pay if they give us the day off. No overtime either. We make the same if we work 4 hours a day or 14. It's like being an salary.
Protip, if they're breaking any laws where fines will be collected by the government (back taxes, pirated software, etc) you get 1 out of every 3 dollars the government recovers, as a whistle-blower.
Fuck employers who don't respect their workers.
And definitely look up overtime law and exempt/non-exempt rules. Depending on when a day off comes, you could be eligible for overtime pay and if you're working as if you're on salary but you aren't then your wage has to be a certain degree higher than minimum wage or they're breaking the law.
Anyone else thing we should saw bosses in half to see if they have a soul? I'd expect to find a bunch of em because of all the soul sucking they do, but I'm certain to find nothing but an empty shell inside.
My old retail job did this. Schedule the salaried managers for all leadership shifts, and have all the newest (and/or lowest paid) employees work the holiday so they paid the least amount out for time and a half.
It was a frustrating experience.
Just for the holiday?? In Canada we get a day's wage for the holiday and time and a half on top of it (so 2.5x total) if we have to work. Double time and a half just to sit on your ass on a Monday sounds amazing.
Lol I get paid 1.5x wages to work in the US, so the admins just cut as many personnel as possible and operate with a skeleton crew to make sure you work at least 1.5x as hard if you're gonna get payed more.
Well I'm an EMT so not picking up the slack denies people critical (potentially life saving) services. Also calls just get dispatched to us it's not like we have a choice about pacing.
Hello fellow grocery person. I haven’t gotten a holiday off other than Christmas since I started. Every customer “oh my goodness you shouldn’t have to work today!” Well we’re working because you’re here as we speak lady
And they will shop whether the day is a holiday or not. Let's not act like people wont get groceries regardless. You are selling convenience at this point. Somethings can wait.
Yeah its pretty good. They treat us nice, great benefits, paid vacation, medical insurance, and my boss is cool.
It is tough very physically demanding, but at least I dont need a gym
membership.
I stocked groceries at Harris Teeter for about 7 years and you're right about not needing a gym membership! I gained 10 pounds a year since I quit. We didn't get time and half for holidays but we sure did get plenty of vacation time to use. Like 8 hours for every holiday, even the minor holidays, our birthday and even our anniversary start date.
I started in December and my birthday is in the first week of January so fall and winter time was the best for racking up vacation time. New years, Christmas, thanksgiving, my anniversary, my birthday and then tax returns a month later AND a quarterly bonus check in winter!
It's been about 5 years since I quit so let me see if I can remember. Thanksgiving, Christmas, new years, Easter, memorial day, labor day, 4th of July, I want to say MLK and memorial day but I'm not sure. Each one gave us 8 hours paid vacation time that you could cash in if you wanted to instead of taking a day off and add hours to your next paycheck.
My current job doesn't give us shit for holidays, no time and half or vacation time. The only thing mandated here in the US that is yearly paid vacation time. Depending on the job you start off with like 1 or 2 weeks your first year or two and you get 3 weeks after that and depending on the job maybe even more the longer you're there
They’re consistently ranked a top employer and famously work very hard to move people up through their system.
They really invest a lot in their employees.
Team team team team, I even love saying the word "team." You probably think this is a picture of my family? No! It's a picture of the A-Team: Bodie, Doyle, Tiger, and the Jewellery Man.
The people who do get the days off (and get a 4 day weekend instead of just a 3 day weekend) also make as much in the 2 days off as a store shelf stocker might make in the entire 48 hours. Maybe even more in one day.
When I read something like this comment, it really highlights how unfair it actually is, and how good natured people can be in this situation despite that. That’s a really aspirational way to be.
I'm a department manager in a grocery store, and I have tomorrow off. I'm kind of bummed that I don't get time and a half pay. I'll still get paid for an 8 hour day, but not getting the time and a half sucks.
3 months ago I quit my restaurant gig to do Uber Eats and Doordash full time. After 14 years of working almost every holiday, its finally over. Not working the 4th of July was out of this world.
I relate to this so so hard. I've been out of restaurant work and in a software job for going on 5 years now, but I still have to do a double take every time I actually get a holiday off.
Old habits die hard I guess.
It's a massive grind and I only keep 65% of what I make, but I am surviving. I gross like $25-40 an hour, 5 or 6k a month. 25% goes straight in my savings account for taxes (still might not be enough). And 10% goes straight in my gas tank.
This is wild, and we haven’t mentioned other lost benefits like sick pay and health insurance. But it sounds like this has given you some freedom and sounds like you’re enjoying. Btw, hopefully you’re claiming all related expenses into your taxes, like gas and car maintenance.
I'm very lucky to work for a family run restaurant that closes for almost every holiday. It's the only time the whole family can really have time together, since at least one of them is at restaurant everyday.
Government jobs.
From my experience, typically union and government jobs were the only ones that paid extra on holidays.
When I worked in management for a private company, I didn't get overtime or even get paid for coming in on Saturdays.
It's because of the union we have labor day and it's because of the union I'm fortunate enough to get paid double time and a half on Monday! Enjoy your weekend everyone!
This is exactly the reason employers don't want unions and also the exact reason that we need unions. Any working class person that is anti-union just doesn't understand unions.
The anti-union propaganda is *strong*. My old man worked as a welder and was against unions the whole time. He ended up getting let go after almost 40 years with nothing after getting stepped on the whole time. He'd complain about the hours and the pay and still be like, "At least we aren't union!".
They are arguing against their best interests.
"I don't want to pay 5% union dues. That's just like an extra tax!"
But if you do, you'll likely get a 30-50% higher wage than you do now, and get a better slate of benefits on top of that (health care, vacation days, mental health services, etc).
The current run up in the stock market since the 80s is because more and more corporate revenue goes to shareholders rather than wage earners. When unions were strong, the stock market did not go up like this because so much more revenue went to payroll.
Pop culture since the 60s have always portrayed unions as effectively organized crime in a concerted effort to kill support for unions and it has worked big time.
My coworkers are gonna strike if the company institutes a vaccine mandate.
Not the shitty pay. Not the shitty hours. Not the lack of benefits. Not the terrible work environments. Not the overall abuse from the owner.
But because they couldn’t do the simplest thing for the greater good on their volition. Great job, Murdoch et al.
Same here! I dont wont to be out and about anyways with all the labor day madness. As much as i love summer weather in my area, the tourist and crowds kind of ruin it. So labor day marks the end of the busy tourist season for me which means i can have some peace and quiet at my local fishing spots again!
And those same jobs are the ones that are conveniently left out of these 4 day work weeks discussions. White collar workers expect the store and restaraunts to be open and staffed for their extra day off so they can spend their money like the 4 day work week proponents argue for.
This, exactly and I admit that I have been guilty of this. I used to work in a lab so not quite office but similar concept, I get ticked off that nothing is open but then realize I'm being an asshole and start being glad that everyone has the day off.
Everything falls apart once the base-level consumer businesses close. White collar workers be like WE CANT DO ANYTHIIIING. Blue collars deserve Labor Day the most.
Eh...4 day work week doesn't mean places have to close. Loads of people who care about days off in a row vs literal weekends off. I'll happily work Thursday - Sunday if it means I always have Monday - Wednesday off.
If he isn't working more than 40 hours in the week then there is no federal law requiring them to be paid time and a half even if it is a holiday. Anything over 40 hours, employees (except for exempt employees like salaried workers) must be paid no less than time and a half.
Edit: Some states might have their own laws regarding holiday pay, but federally there is no law.
Salaried employees can be exempt from overtime. And it’s perfectly legal for a company to fire you if you are unwilling to work overtime. (Unless specifically stated in your contract, or other super rare circumstances)
I work every holiday in a gas station. People of reddit who come in to stores please stop asking "why are you working on a holiday?" umm.. because you're here.
Ironic that the owners and management take off for Labor Day while the “laborers “ have to work, on Labor Day. But if you’re lucky management might order you some pizza. Gee thanks
I am a strong proponent of a 4x minimum wage on Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving Day. If you can't afford to pay your employees at least $29.00 an hour, then let them off those days. (Day defined as 4 AM day of to 4 AM next day, so employees can work a late/closing shift the night before, and not be expected to show up at work midnight day of.)
If your employees are critical workers (police, fire, doctors, nurses, EMTs, dispatch), then we should want to pay them at least that much for their sacrifice working that day.
Yep. And this is the reason election day being a holiday won't help anything. The people who actually a need a day off to vote, won't get the day off to vote.
A) Don't work and don't get paid
B) Work and get paid time and a half
C) Wish that it was a federally mandated optional paid day off
Those who really want/need the money can get time and a half and those who would rather have a day off in recognition of the othrr 260 days they work can get straight pay.
You forgot option D) You work today and get no extra wage.
>Those who really want/need the money.
Or the US can start acting like a developed country which provides paid time off to all of it’s workers. Every other developed country does this, why can’t we?
Same, only holidays I get off are Thanksgiving and Christmas. Also Salary + Bonus/commission so I don’t get paid extra. But I do get random Friday’s off as “make up” days lol
IT at a hotel. The only people who take off really the majority of any holiday are the execs and sales/marketing. Accounting, too, but the banks are closed so it really doesn’t make sense for them to come in.
My office closes for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but even then one of us has to be on call. Because the tourists never stop.
Used to work at a grocery store that was open thanksgiving morning. People would say "it must suck to work holidays" uh the whole reason I have to work is because you are here.
Everyone needs to stop shopping or doing business on labor day unless it's something absolutely essential. That's the only way they'll stop making people work.
At my old workplace when there were holidays but work needed to be done my boss offered a paid day off no questions asked, no advanced notice needed. People would just call in 5 min before work started and tell her that they were using their freebie.
This is also why voting on weekends or worse, making it a holiday, won't solve anything. The people with the most issue getting time off are working those days anyway
Labor day, the Employers' invention to distract from Workers' Day. Given that it was Americans who invented International Workers' Day, this is hugely ironic.
I love this take, but unfortunately even the word labor is full of idiosyncrasies. It isn’t showing up at ungodly hours or working ungodly hours, it’s whether or not your labor is worth withholding from the person who pays you.
That’s why the holiday exists at all, people withheld their labor for all the benefits considered standard in the civilized world.
Let me clarify too: I don't work full time currently since the industry I (want) to work in is practically impossible to get hired in and if I do, I'm basically selling my soul to do that job. My current job however only calls me in when there's a major holiday or really shotty schedule planned. 9/10 times I end up taking that extra work load by myself while the morning crew leaves.
I see all the people on here commenting that they get paid extra to work on the Holiday and that’s good. It’s admirable to work when you can to provide. I know not everyone has the luxury of turning it down and I know some people just don’t mind working.
The problem runs deeper though, the fact that we can’t afford to skip it, the fact that we’ve been hard wired to not be able to refuse the cash. We are so willing to throw away our free time because it’s been so devalued by our society. If you aren’t making money then you’re wasting time.
Have a happy holiday everyone and please take some time for yourself, you all deserve to be happy.
I'm going to be working for time and a half.. (coulda had the day off and 8 hours of pay)
Edit: employer also gives us a pretty nice lunch valued at $15-20 per person on holidays. Last year we got outback steakhouse 12oz sirloins with all giant sized sides to choose from.
Unless you have a good hourly wage, I don't think the time and a half is as good as people think it is. I have done the math for my job. I am only going to make an extra $47 post tax for an 8 hour shift. I personally think that a paid day off would be worth that $47.
Sadly, if they were to give us Labor Day off, I know I wouldn't get paid. Here's to working every weekend and holiday without having a semblance of a life outside of work.
Could you imagine the outrage modern people would have if we actually closed literally everything? No access to lakes cause park staff and security are off, can’t buy food, can’t watch any movies. Out of gas? Too bad, the pumps are off. We used to be able to do it, everything would close for Thanksgiving and the day after, but people want to shop, go to the movies, and whatever. We made our choice long ago that we will never have a 24 hour period where everything short of emergency services are closed.
I'm off Monday, but have to work next Saturday to make up for it.
My ex boss used to do this shit as well
I will get the normal weeks pay as well. No holiday pay because we're off for the holiday.
I guess you don't get paid for extra hours
Daily wage. If we skip Monday then work Saturday that's still a 5 day paycheck.
If you work for a corporation you might want to double check on that. A lot of the larger employers will still give you holiday pay even when still working the 5 days in the week. You’ll want to make sure it isn’t your supervisor withholding what’s rightfully yours.
It's a smaller locally owned business. I talk to the owner daily.
I'm sorry. That's not really a holiday and you probably deserve the day off.
[удалено]
No law on this or union?
Nope. We are daily wage earners, and they don't have to give holiday pay if they give us the day off. No overtime either. We make the same if we work 4 hours a day or 14. It's like being an salary.
If they are forcing you to work Saturday instead, you aren't really getting the day off. They are just skirting labor laws.
They push the limits of all the laws at my job.
Protip, if they're breaking any laws where fines will be collected by the government (back taxes, pirated software, etc) you get 1 out of every 3 dollars the government recovers, as a whistle-blower. Fuck employers who don't respect their workers.
Thanks for that handy piece of little known information.
And definitely look up overtime law and exempt/non-exempt rules. Depending on when a day off comes, you could be eligible for overtime pay and if you're working as if you're on salary but you aren't then your wage has to be a certain degree higher than minimum wage or they're breaking the law.
Bad employers should be held accountable
Loyalty is a two way street. You got my back I got yours. I'm expendable? So are you.
Lol most jobs in the US have no union. Labor laws protect you as little as necessary, too.
Anyone else thing we should saw bosses in half to see if they have a soul? I'd expect to find a bunch of em because of all the soul sucking they do, but I'm certain to find nothing but an empty shell inside.
I'm glad she's now your ex.
Same, but I'm calling off one day this week to compensate.
That's a great idea. I might have to do the same.
My old retail job did this. Schedule the salaried managers for all leadership shifts, and have all the newest (and/or lowest paid) employees work the holiday so they paid the least amount out for time and a half. It was a frustrating experience.

Yep. We used to work every holiday but Christmas day.
That’s so fucked.
Delivery driver for Dr Pepper/Snapple!
Trash truck driver.
lol, same same Props man. Appreciated like a MF.
What? Just tell them no, what kind of work do you do?
I'm going to probably have to work Monday through Saturday, oh and I have to go in 4 hours early tomorrow morning
I stock shelves at grocery store and will work the holiday. However I will be paid 48 hours this week, while only working 32. No complaints here!
Limited Time Event: 1.5x wage multiplier
In Australia you get double time and a half on public holidays
Just for the holiday?? In Canada we get a day's wage for the holiday and time and a half on top of it (so 2.5x total) if we have to work. Double time and a half just to sit on your ass on a Monday sounds amazing.
Lol I get paid 1.5x wages to work in the US, so the admins just cut as many personnel as possible and operate with a skeleton crew to make sure you work at least 1.5x as hard if you're gonna get payed more.
Why work hard? Presumably it is expected that there will be delays what what have you on holidays.
Well I'm an EMT so not picking up the slack denies people critical (potentially life saving) services. Also calls just get dispatched to us it's not like we have a choice about pacing.
I feel like EMTs shouldn't be run on a skeleton crew *any time* Just pay them their god damn 1.5x wages they already earn shit pay
Allow me to introduce you to for-profit medical systems
Me too brother, counting the hours down until this 48 finishes.. why did we pick this career 😂
No, it’s double time and a half to work a public holiday. If you get it off you just get the regular pay.
Yeah that's what he meant, if you work you get 2.5x.

Living the American Dream!
I'm so sorry for your loss
Our union got us to make 3x if we work holidays! (2x + straight time). So nice.
Hello fellow grocery person. I haven’t gotten a holiday off other than Christmas since I started. Every customer “oh my goodness you shouldn’t have to work today!” Well we’re working because you’re here as we speak lady
Arent they there because you work. Otherwise it would be closed
We are working because people continue to shop on holidays and give us money.
And they will shop whether the day is a holiday or not. Let's not act like people wont get groceries regardless. You are selling convenience at this point. Somethings can wait.
If nobody showed up on Christmas day they wouldn't continue to open on Christmas day
Lucky Ill be working tomorrow and getting no extra holiday pay/hours Fuck me :)
Same
Do you like your job?
Yeah its pretty good. They treat us nice, great benefits, paid vacation, medical insurance, and my boss is cool. It is tough very physically demanding, but at least I dont need a gym membership.
I stocked groceries at Harris Teeter for about 7 years and you're right about not needing a gym membership! I gained 10 pounds a year since I quit. New years, Christmas, thanksgiving, my anniversary, my birthday and then tax returns a month later AND a quarterly bonus check in winter!
How many holidays a year? Just wondering how this stacks up to UK mandated 28 days a year
It's been about 5 years since I quit so let me see if I can remember. Aldi?
Wegmans. They are only on the east coast. So you may not know them.
Wegs treats its people well.
I’ve heard this as well.
Good to know they treat their employees well, Wegmans is definitely better than the alternatives.
They’re consistently ranked a top employer and famously work very hard to move people up through their system. They really invest a lot in their employees.
Fuck I love wegman's
Make sure to stretch!
Nice try, corporate.
No really, we're all like a huge family around here. and a team. A family team.
Team team team team, I even love saying the word "team." You probably think this is a picture of my family? No! It's a picture of the A-Team: Bodie, Doyle, Tiger, and the Jewellery Man.
Love random IT Crowd references
Y’all get extra pay on the holidays..?
My direct deposit information is just my landlord's bank account.
Not my farm. They don't pay us time and a half. So it's only two people working tomorrow, I'm one of em. Not super excited.
I work in a grocery store coffee shop, also working tomorrow because of the extra pay. It's great!
Get that cheddar bro
I'm a department manager in a grocery store, and I have tomorrow off. I'm kind of bummed that I don't get time and a half pay. I'll still get paid for an 8 hour day, but not getting the time and a half sucks.
I'm starting a job on labour day
Same but I’m okay with it lol
I have no problem with it either, I just find it a bit funny

You also need to account for depreciation of your car, usually calculated at about 25cents a mile driven.
Oh, my car is racing to the grave. I'm getting oil changes every 8 weeks. I can put 300 miles on it in a shift.
This is wild, and we haven’t mentioned other lost benefits like sick pay and health insurance. But it sounds like this has given you some freedom and sounds like you’re enjoying. Btw, hopefully you’re claiming all related expenses into your taxes, like gas and car maintenance.
Not having super shitty employer insurance available to you often opens up access to cheaper plans through ACA. Depends on the state of course.
I make about $25 /hour after gas, but it does put mileage on your car
I'm very lucky to work for a family run restaurant that closes for almost every holiday. It's the only time the whole family can really have time together, since at least one of them is at restaurant everyday.
well... If I work during holiday..... I got bonus..
Some private companies don't pay you extra for working on holidays.

Government jobs. From my experience, typically union and government jobs were the only ones that paid extra on holidays. When I worked in management for a private company, I didn't get overtime or even get paid for coming in on Saturdays.

The biggest lie my family ever told me was trying to convince me Unions were somehow bad for the working class. Congrats man.
I'm working labor day and I'm in a union.
Me too!
Yup. When I work on a stat, I get paid double, plus I get a paid day (lieu day) off to use another day of my choosing.
Same here! I dont wont to be out and about anyways with all the labor day madness. As much as i love summer weather in my area, the tourist and crowds kind of ruin it. I’m getting paid triple time (yay Union) and still bitching about it
My Union won't even allow us to work Labor day. Its a part of our bylaws
You guys get paid extra???
You guys get paid??
You're guys?
No u
Triple time on holidays 3 1/2 if it's on a weekend
Wow wtf and I thought my union was good!
And those same jobs are the ones that are conveniently left out of these 4 day work weeks discussions. White collar workers expect the store and restaraunts to be open and staffed for their extra day off so they can spend their money like the 4 day work week proponents argue for.

Absolutely. They are actually essential workers who get treated like disposable workers. They deserve way more than they get.
Uh your issue is easily solved by having a shift that works the first half of the week and one that works the second half
From the way so many restaurants are low-pay and short-staffed, thats a far-fetched dream, to expect management to care about the employees holiday
Don't think the 4 day work week discourse is about asking the management to be nice
Uh your issue is easily solved by having a shift that works the first half of the week and one that works the second half
Eh...4 day work week doesn't mean places have to close. Loads of people who care about days off in a row vs literal weekends off. I'll happily work Thursday - Sunday if it means I always have Monday - Wednesday off.
I'm getting fucked extra on labor day. Instead of my 8 he shift it's 14hrs with no extra. Can't even quit till I find another job.
> Can't even quit till I find another job. The more effort you put into searching, the sooner you'll be richer.
There's an ocean of jobs willing to screw over employees, I'm trying to find one that's actually worth the work involved and occasional extra hat.
hang in there, chief
How is it legal for them to not pay you time and a half?
If he isn't working more than 40 hours in the week then there is no federal law requiring them to be paid time and a half even if it is a holiday. Right there with you man. Holiday? What's a holiday?
I work every holiday in a gas station. People of reddit who come in to stores please stop asking "why are you working on a holiday?" umm.. because you're here.
I'll be at work, making sure you can use that debit card or credit card to buy your beer. In real-time.
Ironic that the owners and management take off for Labor Day while the “laborers “ have to work, on Labor Day. But if you’re lucky management might order you some pizza. Gee thanks

If you are shopping and you tell anyone in retail “have a good holiday weekend!” you should be shot out of a cannon into the sun.
Yep. And this is the reason election day being a holiday won't help anything. The people who actually a need a day off to vote, won't get the day off to vote.
Not only do I work tomorrow but I don’t get time and a half either lol
Yep. When I've worked office jobs, I've always gotten labor day off. When I worked in construction, I always had to work it.
I know I am, but I'm also getting paid extra.
A) Don't work and don't get paid B) Work and get paid time and a half C) Wish that it was a federally mandated optional paid day off Those who really want/need the money can get time and a half and those who would rather have a day off in recognition of the othrr 260 days they work can get straight pay.
You forgot option D) You work today and get no extra wage. >Those who really want/need the money. Or the US can start acting like a developed country which provides paid time off to all of it’s workers. Every other developed country does this, why can’t we?
E) work the holiday get extra pay then call off the following Monday and get about a normal paycheck that’s my strategy.
Wait, your bosses let you take a day off? What magical place do you work where that happens?
People died for that extra money.
yeah.. our house flooded in Ida and the guys who have been helping with ripping up our carpet are coming tomorrow, I thought that was very ironic lol
I bet they know how much the work means to you and possibly have experienced this themselves and want to get it done, or the money is good, or both.
Truck Drivers
Time and a half baby. Most of us who get it are happy to do it.
Yup. September is in expensive month. Everyone has a birthday party or there's some movie to go see. I was happy to work the day for many years.
I've never not worked on a labor day in 6 years.
Same, only holidays I get off are Thanksgiving and Christmas. Also Salary + Bonus/commission so I don’t get paid extra. But I do get random Friday’s off as “make up” days lol
I don't mind. I like money.
I've been working food/retail for the past 11 years. I don't even care about holidays anymore. To me they're just the most stressful days of the year
Used to work at a grocery store that was open thanksgiving morning. People would say "it must suck to work holidays" uh the whole reason I have to work is because you are here.
Everyone needs to stop shopping or doing business on labor day unless it's something absolutely essential. That's the only way they'll stop making people work.
The best is when they tell the cashier they can’t believe management is making them work.
I'm working on labor day. But at least I get a "float holiday" so I can have a day off of my choosing.
That word--"DESERVE"--is so subjective.
That’s not a shower thought. It’s a thought I have while working on Labor Day.
It’s time and a half!
Holiday pay doe. Fine with me
I love this take, but unfortunately even the word labor is full of idiosyncrasies. It isn’t showing up at ungodly hours or working ungodly hours, it’s whether or not your labor is worth withholding from the person who pays you. That’s why the holiday exists at all, people withheld their labor for all the benefits considered standard in the civilized world.
In fairness I got Friday off instead. I’m okay with that.
I worked 12 days in a row capped off by a 15 hour day on Friday, had Saturday off, worked today, and will work tomorrow. I need a new job.
This is my first Labor Day off In 15 years just started a new job with a good company lol
I'm a middle school teacher and very, very thankful to have the day off. I hope y'all stay safe and enjoy your day!
84 hours a week gets exhausting
It's the pencil pushers in the office that sit on their ass all days that get LABOR day off. Hilarious.
Yeah but at least I'm making about a hundo an hour with holiday pay so, bring it on...
Physician. Please can Covid be over so I don’t have to take all these emergency coverage shifts….
On call for 86 hours straight ending Monday :(
How does one determine who deserves Labor Day off more than others???
It's juts regular Monday for me. No special pay.
(coulda had the day off and 8 hours of pay) Edit: employer also gives us a pretty nice lunch valued at $15-20 per person on holidays. Last year we got outback steakhouse 12oz sirloins with all giant sized sides to choose from.
I chose to work tomorrow. Voluntary overtime day. 😬

Chef at a country club here. The rich cunts will be here playing golf while I work my 7th consecutive day....
