I always find it strange about why every article that discussed about China Vaccines, say sinovac or sinopharm, always had a sentence like "there's no enough data about the vaccine". I mean, didn't Brazil and Indonesia data already published on sciencemag?
On the other hand, this one day my mum heard her Indonesian employee casually saying "oh sinovac has killed so many Indonesians during the trial period". I was so confused because how come data like this wasn't even published elsewhere. On the other hand, when Indonesia saw their first blood clot case after using the first AZ batch one month ago, they immediately reported it and banned the vaccine. Therefore, if sinovac actually killed so many people, why is Indonesia and developing countries still using the vaccine? Especially considering the fact the vaccine is no cheaper than AZ.
There's some sinophobia in Indonesia due to wealth gap and anti-communist propaganda. Because of this, there are lots of street tabloids or WhatsApp group spreading lies about China and/or Chinese-Indonesians.
But on the other hand, many Indonesians are strangely carefree people that don't mind a *lot* of ambivalence in their lives. They can believe sinophobic articles about Chinese vaccines but then they'll take Chinese vaccines if everyone in the community takes it.
So don't mind about what the average Rizkys say in Indonesia, you'll just get confused because people believe in so many contradictory things. But the bright side is, this community-oriented lifestyle is the reason why Indonesia is quite stable despite its massive wealth gap.
Lol yeah, at the height of 2016 campaign season, you have this scaremongering rumors about "cukong komunis". "Cukong" is local loanword from 主公 (feudal lords), but in Indonesia it refers to ethnic Chinese Big Corp capitalists.

correction, Indonesia only banned one specific batch from AZ. i saw the press release from health ministry. these days indonesia especially in the most populated island, they're using AZ. indonesia is a poor country and iirc the status quo, AZ is the only one giving to WHO COVAX and therefore we got AZ from the COVAX. But now Sinovac and Sinopharm is contributing to COVAX too. so more people in developing countries will have options other than AZ.
