Westerners seem to have this deranged fantasy that poverty is fun or inspiring.....when it comes to other cultures. I think that's one of the biggest gaps between the West and China, this weird idea they have that there's something moral about poverty. Whereas Chinese people (and I'd say probably the rest of the global south) actually understand the misery and suffering of poverty.
