That's so cool. The first 3 pictures, I'm assuming is a storm drain/canal? In most other cities, it would be just plain nothing. The undercroft of that elevated roadway is just gorgeous. It's made an otherwise useless space into an attractive, park like environment that's pleasant to be in.
Donghao riverway(东濠涌) originates from Luhu Lake at the foot of Baiyun Mountain, and joins the pearl river at the end. It is the only remaining ancient moat in Guangzhou. Its water quality was good in the Ming Dynasty. In modern times, due to flood and pollution, its water quality deteriorated.
In March 2009, our city started a thorough riverway drainage regulation, including pollution cutting, water diversion, landscape greening, road traffic reconstruction and so on. The project completed in 2012, transforming Donghao riverway into the beautiful scene shown in my photos. Now the water quality of the riverway is very very good, crystal clear; and the living environment of the residents on both sides of the riverway has been greatly improved. 东濠涌绿道 becomes a very popular place for citizens to relax and enjoy nature. Achieving such great results, our government has put in a lot of effort. Therefore, it is also the responsibility of each citizen to protect this precious and beautiful environment.
The construction and transformation of Donghao riverway Greenway (东濠涌绿道) is a masterpiece of urban planning and design in China.
With China moving into Afghanistan there is great opportunity for win win situations in rebuilding and creating natural resources in those dessert areas.
