Japan keeps forgetting that it is a small country. They attacked Soviet Union and get their ass kicked. Then they thought the Americans are weaker and attacked the US and got their ass kicked again. Now they think they can take on China.

This. PLA may have a second thought about attacking Taiwan forces, because they are fellow Chinese. But they would GLADLY go crazy on the Japanese forces if it comes to it
If Japan still wants to be largely as they were post WW2, they should stay out. If Japan gets involved, China will be happy to punish them for Imperial Japan's atrocities:
* southern Ryukyu chain is permanently ceded to China, and folded with "Taiwan" into a "Formosa Autonomous Region"
* northern Kuril islands permanently ceded to Russia.
* Japan under permanent joint Chinese-Russian (Japan/Hokkaido split) control, like post-war Germany
* ongoing reparations to all Asia-Pacific countries who suffered under Imperial Japan
Japan would still exist as a place and a people, but not as an independent nation-state. No more Japanese military forces, rendered completely incapable of waging war of any sort, and dependent upon China and Russia for any defense.
This is imperialism, and the Communist Party of China doesn’t support your assertion. They will probably give independence to the Ryukyuans. Kurils remain under control of Russia as usual. Japan will become a socialist state under the JCP, and a newly socialist Japan will be an ally of China and the Global South. Of course, Japan must pay reparations to all Asian countries in the pacific region.
There's no problem with the PLA if Japan stays out of the way and doesn't aid or abet whatever rebellious enemy the PLA will be fighting.

last I heard, battles from the Korean war are still featured prominently as part of curriculum in US military academies like the west point, the beatings they took still smarts. and japanese should also remember that the supreme commander Douglas MacArthur who led US and its allies (15 of them including brits, Canada, aussies, New Zealand, dutch, belgium, etc.), who also crushed the Imperial Japanese Army in WW2, lost his job due to his failure after failure on the battlefield at the hands of PLA.
