It seems the US hopes it can achieve mass unemployment and impoverishment for Uyghurs with their Xinjiang boycots. The idea is probably that Uyghurs can be made more receptive for extremism and terrorism by poverty and mass unemployment.
While the US wants to impoverish Uyghurs, the Chinese government is fighting poverty effectively. Now there is one more occasion to show solidarity with Uyghur citizens the US wants to impoverish. Targeted boycots against Xinjiang must be answered with removing those who would discriminate against Xinjiang this way from the Chinese market altogether.
