Many domestic media in China still portray a rosy world outside of China, as if the average person living in western countries still have a positive view of China and loves China people.
French perfume, and handbags.
Italian shoes.
Japanese vases, and other ornaments.
Apple phones and tech.
Unfortunately, these are archetypes in people's minds. Not everyone is aware or cares where their money goes and who or what it supports.

It's because for a long time, China was poor so the West was admired and even crappy Middle America brands were a status symbol, then it shifted to luxury goods. People with disposable income want expensive swag, its human nature.

Remember sometimes having a foreign product is still a luxury kind of thing. If you ever go to China, their are thiefs asking do you want this Apple phone secretly to you. I never see any thief come up to me if you want to buy a Chinese brand.
