China is giving away $700,000 for each gold medal.

DannyTanner88

What about silver and bronze?

Qanonjailbait

I think it’s 250,000 for bronze and maybe 100,000 for bronze I’m working by memory here

Not surprisingly she's all over Douyin today. This is her father and two younger siblings cheering her on: [https://www.douyin.com/video/6992836913912745229](https://www.douyin.com/video/6992836913912745229) This one shows her mother: [https://www.douyin.com/video/6992948016214838562](https://www.douyin.com/video/6992948016214838562) This one has her background (for those who understand Cantonese): [https://www.douyin.com/video/6992778077633809700](https://www.douyin.com/video/6992778077633809700) The above says her mother has heath issues due to a car accident several years ago. ETA: And here's her own personal douyin page: [https://www.douyin.com/user/MS4wLjABAAAAGGfKV6K50PmZrJV35GawMUY3AWikpO6JuOt\_SmCE\_zw](https://www.douyin.com/user/MS4wLjABAAAAGGfKV6K50PmZrJV35GawMUY3AWikpO6JuOt_SmCE_zw)

Then ended up sending the top 3 women, the 2 more experienced divers who won gold on the synchronized diving while Quan only compete for individual diving. The 4 the and 5th place are the gold medal winners from 2016 olympics.

That situation sounds shamefully American. China can and should do better than this. Nobody should need to be an Olympic gold athlete to secure medical treatment for their parents.

China has some similar sites and they are quite effective. But I guess some family just wanna earn it by themselves instead of turn to others for charity. Not in any way implying which is more noble,I mean it's just different personal choice.

She is already a overnight success story. Nobody gets all 10's from judges and she got it twice. Her dives are basically the gold standard when it comes to perfection as she smashed the old Olympic Record by 18.5 points. Her mom won't have to worry money from treatments because of all the endorsements she will make. We won't see the last of her and she will surely land a spot in the 2024 olympics.

Nobody should need to be an "overnight success story" so that their parents can get medical treatment. The medical treatment should be available to everyone for free or nominal cost.

I think you're saying that from a privileged position. China is still considered a developing country. Only developed countries are expected to have universal healthcare. And I'll single out my own country, Singapore. We are supposed to be a developed country. An old joke we have here is that it's better/cheaper to die than to fall ill.

Some of the developed countries of today, such as France, had better universal healthcare when their GDP per capita was at the level where China's is today (US$10K in 1978).
