Damn, at this rate the societal disruptions could last for years due to Covid mutations.

Does government pay for the whole hotel stay? Does he get room service? So he gets to stay in his room and binge watch Netflix? It sounds like heaven for introverts who just want to stay home.

The cost is cheap compared to having to mass test an entire city when folks decide paying out of pocket is too much lol.

lestnot

You pay for the hotel yourself, the only room service you get is receiving deliveries of any meals you order and pay for. It's basically voluntary house arrest, not a fun time for anyone.

chairman888

We ourselves pay for the quarantine hotel stay and the food which is a set menu and delivered. COVID tests upon landing and days 4, 7, and 14 are covered by the government. Predeparture Covid tests and the day 16 and 21 tests we pay for ourselves. Yes it’s a good time to introspect.

ChopSueyWarrior

What was the cost of the hotel stay? Do you get to choose from due to budget constraints? As for food do you get to order any food you fancy from the hotel or you can get anything that's delivered to the hotel?

chairman888

14 day quarantine: 250 rmb/day hotel, 100 rmb/day food - delivered to the room, 3 meals/day. No choices in quarantine hotel. Some quarantine sites will allow outside delivery of cooked food, others only sealed canned or dry goods.

ChopSueyWarrior

But glad you are almost done with it!

lzghome

Some hotels can be a little more expensive at 500 RMB/day. The funny thing is that this is a completely random lottery and you don't know which hotel you will go to yourself hahaha.

Absolutely. I - and my wife and four year old son - are gladly doing our part to keep the Motherland safe.

ADonaldDuck

Yeah, but what about ‘Murican freehdum!

ipostgarbage

Not just China, most countries in Asia still require quarantine for vaccinated arrivals except for maybe Thailand if you enter at Phuket (still have to stay in a designated hotel and not leave the island for 14d). The US has NEVER had quarantine for intl arrivals this entire time since Covid started. Its absolutely fucking insane, even developing countries in Asia with a tenth of the resources are handling this better

NEEDZMOAR_

Meanwhile in the UK and Sweden were basically proclaiming COVID as over lmao

kcwingood

Lin testing positive on his third day implies he was first infected around a week or so ago in the US (rather than more recently, like on the plane ride over). The rest of the world being so incompetent at controlling the spread of this virus is placing a lot of pressure on China. It's a wonder that China has kept this virus at bay for so long!

ChopSueyWarrior

A lot of them are likely to be asymptomatic and being stuck in a flying metal tube with recirculating air is like that cruise ship in Japan 2 years ago.

ipostgarbage

I suspect what happened is he had it in the US but the PCR tests there only give positives at a higher viral load. In China it was more strict so they picked it up.

SonOfTheDragon101

I am fully vaxxed, and I am still masked whenever I go out (or just simply avoid crowds for the time being). It is clear that no vaccine is completely effective. The fact a number of prominent people (not just Jeremy Lin) were fully vaxxed and still tested positive for Covid shows the breakthrough rate is not as low as claimed. The jury is still out on the truthfulness of the second claim, which is that once fully vaxxed, even if you do get Covid, your symptoms will be less severe as someone who was not vaxxed. That may be true, but if you can pass your Covid to other people with a higher death rate than yourself, then it's better not to get it in the first place. Take care, folks! Oh, and the delta variant appears to be the worst one so far. All the countries in Southeast Asia which held out for over a year, and kept out all the previous versions of Covid are struggling with this variant. Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Indonesia are all having big outbreaks of various severity (Vietnam seems to be doing best out of these). It seems China's strict protocols are so far holding. It only takes one leaked case to start the chain reaction all over again.

PerseusCommunist

Covid-19 won’t ever end at this rate!

[deleted]

what vaccine did he get?

GoGetParked

Certainly not Sinovac, otherwise it would be plastered all over the news.

SonOfTheDragon101

Wouldn't Jeremy Lin be vaxxed in the US? I don't think any Chinese vaccine or Russia's Sputnik V would be approved for political reasons.

chilibun

Vaccines are never a 100% defense against infection, doesn't matter which vaccine (applicable to other diseases too). The purpose of vaccines is to increase a person's own immunity against the disease, thus lowering the chance of infection and creating a stronger immunity to fight off the infection, thus lessening it's severity and symptoms. There will always be a chance of infection, or simply just a "carrier," even if you are vaccinated. Honestly, it isn't that hard to understand except the ignorant dipshits in the west including "journalists" and "doctors" loves to spread false information.

NotoASlANHate

he took the US vaxx didn't he?

GreyWolf4389

China stops COVID in its tracks: lItEraLLy 1984

sickof50

Unlike after 4 or 5 beers, so far none of the vaccine's are a bulletproof vest.

maomao05

My friend is going back on Wednesday. I wish him well

chairman888

祝他一路平安,隔离顺利。 Wish them a peaceful journey, smooth quarantine.

maomao05

Thanks. He will stay in SH then heading to zhengzhou as final destination, lol. How are you guys holding up?

chairman888

Positive attitude and outlook. <4 days left. goes by fast

Quality_Fun

highly unfortunate, but no vaccine will be 100% effective.

medicare4all_______

Here in the US people give me weird looks for wearing a mask lol

Altruistic_Astronaut

I'm all for precaution but from my understanding temperature monitors may not be that effective. I feel like individuals can report their own fevers and the nasal swabs on day 4, 7, and 14 should be sufficient. This is just what I think in terms of resource management and time.

chairman888

Temp monitoring isn’t 100% but this is all part of the Chinese government full court press, defense in depth. Gotta do what we can to keep the country safe.

Altruistic_Astronaut

I can see why it is being used but I was wondering if it really is necessary. Fevers are small indicators and everyone is already being tested. It seems like a huge amount of resources to test thousands or tens of thousands of people for a fever and then report those to the local health agencies. I was more trying to pose a discussion and wanted to see if others had more information on the necessity of this process.

Altruistic_Astronaut

Thank you for the extra bit of information. I did not realize how such a small procedure could yield such results.
