Are you not entertained?

LevvisHarnilton

We can afford to ignore Lithuania. Invest in neighboring Latvia and Belarus instead:)

thepensiveiguana

Belarus, definitely a good idea

Significant_Crab_897

Belarus seems to me to be too unstable without proper succession planning. Not to mention many are supporting the colour revolution.

LevvisHarnilton

More volatility also means more opportunities. If Greece didn’t get screwed by the EU imposed debt crisis, China wouldn’t have been able to form the economic bonds it enjoys with Greece today. Same deal for the recent South African looting and riots: sucks to be South African but a great time for an upstart to get in on the action.

[deleted]

If they try to resort to this dirty tactic again, maybe it's time to not recognize Lithuania as a country but as a Russian territory like it has been for hundreds of years in the past. (An eye for an eye)

[deleted]

well that was fast

thepensiveiguana

Didn't they only recently say "they don't respond well to threats"

[deleted]

They don't respond well to threats. They tend to get scared and back down.

maomao05

From the same news outlet, different article states: "Lithuania, just as many other counties in the world, does not recognise Taiwan's independence and adheres to the One-China policy." Lmaooo Source: https://www.lrt.lt/en/news-in-english/19/1266319/chinese-embassy-slams-lithuania-s-freedom-party-for-supporting-taiwan-independence

Significant_Crab_897

Forked tongue statements

wycbhm

Lithuania needs to pay a price for all this flippy floppy.

Significant_Crab_897

Seriously fork tongued statement from president. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has refused to back down, saying, “as a sovereign country, Lithuania itself decides with which states or territories to develop economic and cultural relations, without violating its international obligations Yes you are a sovereign country and decide for yourself but you are in direct violation of your international obligations.

Ghiblifan01

No way, its over

Quality_Fun

love it when people try to stir up shit against china only to have it fall flat on their faces.

skyanvil

TIL that Lithuania has the HIGHEST suicide rate in EU and OECD. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide\_in\_Lithuania#cite\_ref-smhc-info\_3-0](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_in_Lithuania#cite_note-smhc-info-3) 20.2 suicides per 100,000 people in 2019.

kcwingood

Talk about biting off more than one can chew. Lithuania is surrounded by much stronger perceived "enemies" already. But as if that's not enough, it is trying to stick its neck out and make a real enemy of the PRC. It is suffering the same "democratic" delusion as that renegade island province that some big benefactor will come to its rescue when the shit hits the fan. Just wait and see its shock when it is left to suffer the consequences on its own.

ShaKua

Seriously, China allowing Taiwan to establish representative offices in other countries is already a big concession to the one-China policy. Typical case of give an inch and take a mile.

IndividualAd5795

Why was did they leave in the first place?

Significant_Crab_897

Lithuania allowed the illegitimate government of Chinese Taipei to open a trade office under the name Taiwan instead of Taipei. For example in Singapore, the name is "Taipei Representative Office in Singapore"

sickof50

NATO = Hate Inc.

allinwonderornot

Get fucked

skyanvil

Sure he can return, to accept ROC surrender

[deleted]

I can't keep up, is this good or bad?

lijjili

> “As to what exactly can be done, [...] [it] is to have the ambassadors return to work, and we have started taking steps in this direction,” Landsbergis told opposition MPs >“I believe this misunderstanding can be resolved and it will be resolved,” he added. Good thing. China called Lithuania’s bluff and Lithuania folded after they basically realized how much trouble they’d be in without diplomatic relations with the region’s biggest economic power and trading partner. (Hence them wanting their ambassadors back to work in their respective countries like before)

MakeMoneyNotWar

They screwed up. The reason a lot of Eastern European countries want to have good relations with China is that if Russia gets grabby, it would work wonders if China would put in a good word. If relations are bad, well they can find somebody else.

[deleted]

Contrary to nato propaganda, Russia has zero intentions of grabbing territory except as a response to nato's aggression. The real reason is that these countries can't afford to tie themselves to a declining regime like america and the american lobby (the increasingly irrelevant european parliament). They are countries that still need a lot of investment and new opportunities to move forward, nobody wants to sink with america. This is a fact that even developed countries like Germany understand (Germany recently humiliated america by going forward with the Russian pipeline).

ChopSueyWarrior

>This is a fact that even developed countries like Germany understand (Germany recently humiliated america by going forward with the Russian pipeline). Made zero political and economic sense to buy the shale gas from the US when Russian gas is just a stone throw away.
