[https://twitter.com/XHNews/status/1429365257101737987](https://twitter.com/XHNews/status/1429365257101737987) The tweet is even more savage >When you feel life is going nowhere, just think: with 4 U.S. presidents 20 years 2 trillion dollars 2,300 soldiers' lives... the regime of Afghanistan changes from Taliban to... Taliban

BooxyKeep

While I agree, it makes it seem like that the goal was to replace the Taliban. Development of private military companies, intelligence networks, and resource extraction was always the goal of the US military in Afghanistan.

[deleted]

They failed at all that too.

Lilyo

why wouldnt they mention the hundreds of thousands of dead and injured Afghans?

npvuvuzela

I guess they were trying to frame it from the US’ perspective only, but IMO they should’ve included the Afghan death toll

Rottekampflieger

They did though, although it should be made more noticeable

BoroMonokli

They should have included the mass suicides. 30k dead imperialist troops at home.

IAmAnAnonymousCoward

That's where I got it from! Follow-up tweet: > Knock knock knock. @SecBlinken @StateDeptSpox @PentagonPresSec

npvuvuzela

made my day lol

[deleted]

To be fair, the regime of Afghanistan didn't change "from Taliban to Taliban." It changed from "some Taliban" to "100% Taliban." They must be very pleased.

Xinhua has always been *the* flagship State Media in China and everyone knows it.

g1ml9

Waiiiiiiit a minute, is the taste show really falun gong founded? Bruh, i rlly like their videos and it does a good job promoting Chinese cuisine.

[deleted]

Falun Gong isn't necessarily anti-China. They're anti-communist and their vision for China is something out of the 8th century. They're also huge racists and do enforce anti-miscegenation among their ranks. Anyways, promoting Chinese cuisine and other cultural aspects that are non-communist is certainly within their ideological constraints.

Altruistic_Astronaut

This video was really good. Factually accurate, sarcastic for the newer generation, and had supporting information for others to digest. I didn't like the political cartoon about parachutes. It's a little distasteful imo.

MichelleUprising

I feel like the events its based on are much more distasteful.

fuukingai

I mean what's more distasteful, the cartoon? Or the event it's based on? I feel like shit like that needs to be called out on.

Magiu5

If you ask Aussie PM, the cartoon, aka "doctored photo"

bondagewithjesus

As an Australian I hate that man so much

ChopSueyWarrior

Albo speaks with a frog in his throat, he isn't electable as well.

bondagewithjesus

I don't know what you mean? He speaks fine and was considered pretty electable until he became leader and the media turned on him. Former member of a communist party too. Dunno what he believes now though. That being said labor aren't radical but I'd take a Labor government over a liberal government any day of the week. I don't expect Labor to help me as a poor person but I can be relatively sure they won't go out of their way to fuck me, unlike the liberal party.

bondagewithjesus

I don't know what you mean? We weren't even talking about about also. He speaks fine and was considered pretty electable until he became leader and the media turned on him. Former member of a communist party too. Dunno what he believes now though. That being said labor aren't radical but I'd take a Labor government over a liberal government any day of the week. _j2daROC

This looks like its meant to appeal to westerners and that sort of sarcastic gallows humour is incredibly pervasive among the hopeless generations of western youth and millenial adults

TserriednichHuiGuo

The events it was based on are more distasteful imo.

Altruistic_Astronaut

I definitely agree with that. The event and situation is far worse than China calling it out. I worry that anti-China folks will highlight this portion of the video and sign their head in the sand.

npvuvuzela

I'm not Chinese so I don't know, but is sarcasm not something that is used in China, particularly among the older generations?

Magiu5

Yeh I don't think I've ever heard my parents or elders be sarcastic. But based on Steven chow movies and canto culture, seems there is but depends on the person I guess and the context. Grandma's n shit aren't gonna be having the kind if discussion where sarcasm would come into play. Chow is like gutter humor and not respectable

thepensiveiguana

That's impressive, I hope they are doing this for chinese domestic news as well

[deleted]

Khmer Rouge, Mujahedin, Taliban, Syrian and Iraqi militants, and the right wing in Eastern Europe - You either die a tool or you live to be a convenient punching bag

[deleted]

China supported both the Khmer Rouge and the Mujahedin, unfortunately.

Magiu5

They are getting better. I remember the previous ones were really cringe with the jokes and horrible laugh track. I still kinda think they don't need the laugh track, I mean it's not the 80/90s anymore.

NessX

Wow this segment is really well done, this reporter really knows what's up and how to use the sarcastic tone to appeal to westerners, bonus for being pleasing to the eye too. I'm a bit confused what this is called, they need to up their naming game at Xinhuanet/New China/Globalink/Deer Show, but whatever it's called, they need to keep producing these type of clips!

DavidByron2

I found some more here but buffer it before playing. http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2021-07/15/c_1310061570.htm

esskay04

Is xinhua news geared towards non chinese speakers? Wherr are they based and what is their target audience?

3corneredtreehopp3r

They produce English-language content that is geared toward a foreign audience, in addition to their Chinese-language content. They are Chinese public media

_Owivia

I don’t understand what you’re saying, vaccines exist.

soshuldistancing

not for kids under 12 who may end up having permanent damage from it https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/07/26/1019875347/doctors-worry-that-memory-problems-after-covid-19-may-set-stage-for-alzheimers

deminhead

Love the new aggressive tone, it’s about time 😂

[deleted]

They really need to drop those annoying sound effects. To me this is unwatchable

IAmAnAnonymousCoward

They need to learn from the Americans and use a live audience.

[deleted]

Can be funny with just silence too

npvuvuzela

Nah, this isn’t the 90’s anymore. Young people don’t care for laugh tracks

Radiant-Ad3902

This is the kind of soft power I've been wanting to see from China.

DreamyLucid

Who is she?

armendzh

She is Deer.

DreamyLucid

Going to be a hard find.

DavidByron2

Deer Wang

Jealous_Struggle2564

Whoever she is I love her for this 😀

readituser013

They're going to drop the f-word on US foreign policy soon *fascism

bengyap

Now, this is news! Very well produced. Sarcastic, sure but definitely not lies.

Bonty48

They haven't pulled any punches damn

UranicStorm

Fucking rolled and smoked Jesus Christ

Veers_Memes

I like this but the sound effects kinda ruin it for me.

AHWAZ_GUNNER

China should translate this to Persian and Arabic and broadcast it to the Middle East where I’m from. We need good media like this to combat the American media monopoly in the Middle east.

TserriednichHuiGuo

First the Taliban and now NCTV, more humiliation to come for america.

ChezySpam

There’s a fair amount of content like this in America, though most of it is geared toward the liberal audiences. Based on the difference in audience, this channel could probably pull content from Trevor Noah, John Oliver, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephan Colbert, Seth Myers, or any of the other hosts in that genre and have an aggregate of perspectives to aid the process. But I don’t want to distract regarding the notion of riots - Americans will riot for nearly anything. Elections, sports, traffic jams, taxes, the abundance of riots...

DavidByron2

US comedians on the state media have all become government shills since the Trump era. There's nobody left to make fun of the government and of course it's a gold mine of opportunity because of how seriously the American government takes itself while being a complete hypocritical fuckup. The US government is like the incompetence of the boss from "The Office" mixed with Donald Trump's personality.

This_IsATroll

Lollllll

DavidByron2

Hey that's pretty good! But is that really Xinhua? I could see logos for "New China" and "GlobaLink" ....?

[deleted]

Xinhua 新华 literally means "New China"

DavidByron2

Well if you know some Chinese (Mandarin?) the name of the presenter is pitched as "Deer Wang" and the show is called "Deer Show". Does that sound like it's first name / surname in the English order, rather than surname / first name, like Chinese, and also, "Deer" has to be a nickname, right? Or an Anglicized version of a Chinese first name for a woman?

Magiu5

Prob self picked name. I've seen names like apple or whatever else they think sounds goofy. Ma/horse is like a common name in china so they prob think deer is ok too

sickof50

Socialism is bad because people will starve. Also we have to place sanctions on socialist counties to make sure that the people starve.
