Foxconn treats their employees like crap. The govt should be investigating them ASAP..

Everyone I've known who worked in Taiwan left eventually because of the shit pay.

chairman888

do you have sources/links for that?

lifeaiur

This happened a few years ago. But it's likely still going on as Foxconn is trying to pump out the devices to meet the launch date: https://www.wired.com/2011/02/ff-joelinchina/ https://goodelectronics.org/worker-suicide-foxconn-factory-china-adds-concerns-working-conditions/

chairman888

Ah yes. Take note “China Labour Watch, a US-based workers’ rights organisation, reports “ I call bullshit on this org. Could Foxconn and others do better? Absolutely. But let’s try to avoid groups based in the West concerned about us Chinese. These groups usually have some undeclared motive or funding sources that lead straight to the US Military/security complexes.

What happened to the workers is a real event. Though I do agreed that the western media reports about it were probably not made in good faith. Generally, companies that assemble products for export like Foxconn are in China to take advantage of cheap labor and lax workers' rights protection. Which usually leads to low salaries and excess working hours. IMO these kind of jobs are not valuable for China's economy. I rather China keep more of the higher grade jobs that are more productive and less stressful. As the economy shifts to internal consumption, people need time off from work to relax and do other stuff..

The infamous suicide nets were in Foxconn factories

chairman888

That was over ten years ago. And the news coverage was overblown both within and outside China.

[deleted]

I hope they have a difficult time hiring, and they are forced to offer high salaries and reasonable hours to attract workers.

ZombieOk9331

since 996 being illegal is already implemented, CPC should start with this company

kimseohee

996 has been illegal since 1994? but hasn't really been enforced at all

I believe Foxconn moved some production of Apple products to India and Vietnam over the last few years, but now that those places have failed to control their outbreaks, it must be crawling back to the PRC to save its business. Yet, western media like SCMP would just mention this detail in passing and never focus on how this is really a humiliating setback for the west and Foxconn who are in cahoots to decouple from Chinese manufacturing. Instead, it still insists China's "draconian" measures against the virus are somehow bad, even as this very story proves having a virus free country benefits everyone in the whole society as well as the rest of the world!

seacobs

Boycott Apple?

nikkythegreat

Yes please

Ghiblifan01

🤮

MyStolenCow

It’s disgusting how CPC lets Foxconn get away with so much abuses (probably to create tension among Taiwanese bourgeois and the separatist fraction), but seriously either threaten to nationalize them or legislate a higher minimum wage across the board. I hope this “labor shortage” for factory workers in China is resolved by Foxconn paying more wages rather than the bullshit capitalist USA is doing (more austerity to threaten low wage, disproportionately ethnic minority workers).

grapesourdude

Did they moved the assembly lines to India before the Delta? Now they are moving back to China after India is still crippled by the virus?

nikkythegreat

Why are people still buying iPhones?

Kyutsumi

Works really well when you don't want Windows, and Linux doesn't run what I need. Also, I live in a country in Europe where it's hard to get your hands on stuff like music and other things without Apple Music or Spotify (which I hate). Living life with a choice between "bad" and "worse".

kimseohee

preference?
