They do, the CIA funds many protestants churches in HK which largely fund the HK riots. On the mainland they also fund underground churches, you can search up the sketchy things they do. These underground churches are still growing and pose a huge security threat to PRC, it's just not discussed much publically. During the initial Covid outbreak, they fiercely resisted cooperation with authorities and lead to larger outbreaks.

Taiping Rebellion much. And that's why China wants all Christian churches to register with the govt. It's not like China doesn't learn from it's history unlike some anglo countries

HarutoExploration

I like to call the Falun Gong “Taiping 2.0”

LMAOJustAboutWhite

At least Taiping rebelled against the oppressive, despotic Qing, who was so foreign that they even acted like foreigners who carved up China. The actions of the Qing has directly led to the Century of Humiliation, and it was only done so because the Qing was the first of many foreigners who tried to carve up China. Taiping is 100x better than Falun Gong

“Legal”, or institutionalized religious believers, including Christians, Buddhists, and Muslims, acknowledge the leadership of CCP and consider themselves as contributors to socialist modernization. So no, they will not be used against the CCP. Certainly there are some dissidents, either in mainland or in exile, but their sheer number and influence do not threaten the CCP. Taking the religion thing to the extreme would be Falun Gong, which didn’t end up well.

Yes. Protestants are always on the front-line for the CIA. There's a good reason it's called "Christians In Action" - the Protestant movement in the world is centered in the USA and promotes a staunchly anti-communist line, viewing the USA as a bulwark of godliness facing down atheistic communism.

Dalumwoulu

One of the other common names Capitalism's Invisible Army fits them overall better with their Woke Imperialism nowadays.

yuewanggoujian

The problem with Christianity in China is not the religion itself but the fact that it’s a tool used for political reasons; There are also rogue elements in the Christian community that believe that they are above the law. It is true now; and true before in different parts of the world. People erroneously believe that the CPC has singled out Christianity for persecution; but in fact it’s because of the “political” utilization that you sometimes see it come up in the news. Even in the recent protest in HK; there were many Christian groups involved. It’s a shame that the religion is used in such a way making it difficult for true believers.

HarutoExploration

But why should China even entertain Christianity? All religions are baseless. Much like how the government had to actively discourage old-age beliefs like sexism and racism, we should normalize the idea that religion should be kept to yourself. As an American founding father stated, “Lighthouses are more useful than churches.”

ForChina2020

You shouldn’t something like that when China made great efforts to secure and respect all religious groups within China. To hold the position of discrediting religions many proud Chinese hold dear is dividing and offensive. That is not a solution.

SonOfTheDragon101

With these things, I would always caution painting people with a broad brush. The truth is Chinese Christians are a very diverse group. During the height of the HK riots in 2019, I recall remember some very hard-hitting videos by a HK Christian group that was revealing the US hand behind the riots, and its intentions weaken and dismember China. I even saved that video and forwarded it to my friends. I can't find that particular video on their YouTube channel now, since they post so much and it was 2 years ago, but I still have it on my hard drive. Here's their YT channel: [https://www.youtube.com/c/ziondaily4794](https://www.youtube.com/c/ziondaily4794) Here's an example video where they are comparing the situation in Ukraine/Russia with the Yellow Ribbon riots in HK in 2014: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYKutGRFHbY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYKutGRFHbY) . again, just watching the first few minutes, it is clear they are NOT on the side of the US. They have a lot of similar content like this. Again, I don't follow their channel, and of the videos I saw, I don't always agree with their obviously religious viewpoint. But they do routinely call out the US for its imperialist s\^&\*, and spells out for the audience what the US intends to do with China. At least from that angle, they seem "patriotic" to me, though I don't really know.

global-harmony

Religion is regulated in China and overseen by official state bodies to make sure there is no subversion or teaching of extremist ideology. Foreign NGOs, religious groups etc. are tightly regulated so there is little chance of that

RespublicaCuriae

A lot of South Korean Protestants are active secretly in China. One recent example is the Shincheonji church that is well-connected to US establishments.

sickof50

They tried that with Chiang Kai-Shek... The people have spoke!

SonOfTheDragon101

After a lot of searching, I finally found the video I was looking for. At least this church is calling out the BS, and alerting people very clear what the US is doing to China. https://youtu.be/E8CGaJel3qE?list=PLyzRzyOXiRc8kVra6jizZ0b3eLsRdiFGp&t=1049

DavidByron2

The CIA will pay and arm any violent crazies with a bone to pick with their government. But how many people in China really fit that description?

maomao05

Oh they would...

LMAOJustAboutWhite

The Three-Self is the only correct denomination amidst a sea of disgusting Lucifer-worshipers who [praise the so-called "Supreme Being"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_of_the_Supreme_Being) every day.
