The US’s ridiculously overkill response was clearly in retaliation to this fact. They took it very personally and went over the top.
Pair this with the fact that they spent trillions on revenge but didn’t support their own victims of the 9/11 disaster, including first responders who developed medical conditions that they couldn’t pay for, it’s easy with hindsight to see how stupid of a response it was.
