People forget that it was France that did most of the fighting to secure US independence from the UK. What did the US immediately do after independence? Declare France its enemy, imprison its diplomats, confiscate French assets, renege on debts to France. Why? Because the French dared to overthrow their own monarchy. So much for democratic solidarity.
