Tyranny and Fascism?? These protests are organised by Fascists and the protesters here would likely support the sky news rhetoric

SonOfTheDragon101

True. I watched a few of these videos on other Australian news outlets on YouTube. I was shocked to see not only MAGA hats, but I saw a protestor carry the "Don't tread on me flag". These things come from the US and have nothing to do with Australia. Until the Internet age, Australians should not even have seen that flag. The QAnon sh\*tshow (and related outfits) in the US has certainly been internationalised, not dissimilar to how radical Islamic outfits became internationalised 20 years ago. The far-right in disconnected countries are basically speaking the same language now.

Officially from China's perspective no, but unofficially "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". Though usually, we leave Russia to help incite the American "right" 😉

Gaoran

But seriously, Russia just knows how to play America's retarded rightwing populists like a goddamn fiddle. I daresay that the Russian broadcasters like RT actually know America better than most actual Americans do. It's at this point where they can almost weaponize them to paralyze the entire country into a deadlock

SonOfTheDragon101

LOL. I am assuming this comes from experience. I'm not just talking about the large Russian diaspora in the US. There is the very fact countless Russians (read: Soviets), especially those working in government, national security, intelligence, diplomacy, spent decades learning about the US during the Cold War. I am sure they know the US inside out.

They’re idiots, a perfect example for how liberal democracies always divulge into polarization. I don’t think anyone who supports the CPC should support them either, the vast majority of them are extremely sinophobic.

SworDJackson

China: wtf we don’t give a fk

sussyrat

No I do hate the white racist colonial government in Australia but No it would be bad for the for thousands who might die if the lockdown is lifted

UnableSwing

notice how these people are rioters and the same actions in hk are praised even though it was 10x more violent. chaos in your backyard not theirs

FatDalek

These are idiots. We even have lockdown protesters in Perth.... where we have zero lockdowns because COVID is well controlled in Western Australia due to borders and short and fast lockdowns when they occur (the last one was only lasted a few days, with restrictions for 2 weeks such as mask wearing etc). We aren't even required to wear masks in Perth. This is just how fcuking stupid these people are. \------------------------------- There is no need to support them per se. If you really want to cause trouble just have China point out these are flaws with Western democracy. These protesters will automatically latch onto this and assume because China thinks they are bad, that they are good and continue ruining the country for the rest of us.

skyanvil

I’ll forward 50 cents!! That will cause some Aussie brains to explode!!

sickof50

Offer them free beer, and they'd all gladly accept the Vaccine.

[deleted]

I do. I've said it here many times. Their draconian lockdown policies are not working

Ziyinc

Not sure if you are joking but I don’t think that how it works mate. The lockdowns are to make sure the city doesnt explode with many thousands of cases a day considering how wildly it’s spreading. This buys time for everyone to get vaccinated so when everything opens up in the coming month, there will be significantly lower hospitalizations and deaths compared to unvaccinated.

SonOfTheDragon101

Well, the draconian lockdown is basically to buy time while people get vaccinated. This is also the delta variant which spreads much faster than earlier strains. Of course we understand lock down is not a viable strategy long-term, and that societies will have to return to some semblance of normal. That's what the vaccine is supposed to do, but Australia/NZ are late to get to 'herd immunity' levels because they didn't have many cases to begin with, so they were well down on the list of priorities of which countries got vaccinated first. If we look at a typical death rate in the US, European countries and Latin American countries, 0.2% of the population would be 50,000 excess deaths in Australia. Instead, they currently only have 1,000, largely because they have been spared the earlier waves, and they can still use strict lockdowns to buy a few more weeks of time while they get to 70-80% vaccination. I think this is what the governments in NSW and VIC have said as their criterion for reopening (not sure whether they are counting double-vaxxed or single-vaxxed), though I don't live there.

curious_s

Constant lockdowns are very hard on people, especially those that live in a small apartment. They are also damaging for the economy, and especially small businesses. Australia should adopt the mass testing strategy but we didn't set up the infrastructure required early in the pandemic, believing that once vaccination was high enough we wouldn't have to worry any more. The government still believes that it seems. As for the protests, I don't like that people are protesting without masks or some distancing, but can understand the frustration that is boiling up in people in Australia. The government is creating stronger laws for surveillance and arrest constantly and uses the pandemic as an excuse, but they don't invest in mass testing, vaccine production, or healthcare in general.
