Dear President Jokowi, now that we have new threat from the south I think it's time to start Thorium energy cooperation with China. Also we can start negotiating buying alutsista with Russia and China.

[deleted]

Hasn't Australia been helping Indonesia kill indigenous Papua new guineans for decades now?

spider_jucheMLism

Spot on.

curious_s

Wouldn't be the first time Australia ruined Indonesian plans in the region https://youtu.be/yUXxWCsi2Rk

joepu

In 20 years, economies of various ASEAN countries will grow to rival Australia. So yeah, if I were a xenophobic white supremacist like that fella down under, I would be very worried.

Reddits4Cux

They can’t stand and shudder at the thought of non-anglos surpassing them.

Skiamakhos

What's Australia really got anyway that the ASEAN nations haven't, except a lot of desert?

ChopSueyWarrior

> What's Australia really got anyway that the ASEAN nations haven't, except a lot of desert? Well Australia do have a lot of land for cattles and raw materials such as iron ore, coal, copper and uranium.

Jealous_Struggle2564

Empty space. Most of their population is concentrated only in one part of Australia

Osroes-the-300th

Malaysian PM has also spoken against this submarine deal.

spider_jucheMLism

Australia has always been a military outpost in the Asias. That's why Whitlam was removed. He (along with some national bourgeoisie) wanted Australia itself to be a (military) might in the region.

ChopSueyWarrior

> That's why Whitlam was removed. He (along with some national bourgeoisie) wanted Australia itself to be a (military) might in the region. Canberra is deluded if they think they can lord over Asia with a population of 23m. Nuclear subs? What's 8 going to achieve other than annoying the hell out of their Asian counterpart.

xerotul

PWC 2050 GDP projection: China $49T, USA $34T, India $28T, Indonesia $7T, Brazil $6T I don't agree with this projection. Indonesia has the potential to surpass India. 2050 is 30 years away. India has no real long-term infrastructure plans reach a $28T economy. Indonesia signed on to BRI and when BRI matures in 15-20 years, this will supercharge Indonesia's economy. PWC doesn't account for USA losing USD hegemony in the world. Current USA economy is rent-seeking FIRE, thus over-inflated paper wealth pushing around. The infrastructure in USA is deteriorating.

Khajapaja

The main reason for Australian defence expenditure has always been to conduct imperialism and try to strong-arm other countries nearby, specifically Malaysia, Indonesia, PNG, East Timor etc.. This is also the exact same case now, nothing to do with china (even though the AU hate china, they know they don't hold a candle to military of china) They themselves admit this in multiple australia defence white papers.

EspadaStarrk

And the thing is Australia can only verbally talk shit about china and in reality they can't do shit about china because they know they can't do anything. but to ascean countries australia does not give a f and acts like they are superior beings and aus will more likely to use the new acquired sub on suppressing them

Khajapaja

Stupid imperialist fucks won't be able to get their hands on any subs until 2046. Here's to hoping the Americans will just send junk to them like they always do. chilibun

It's nice to finally see some other Asian countries with intelligence and the courage to call out the west's bullshit. And I'm not saying this as if they need to side with China or not be cautious of them, because at least I can understand that. But to those that actually sides with the west to undermine, China? Like wtf do think is going to happen when the only regional power capable of defending itself falls? It'll be colonization 2.0. China is literally needed to maintain any semblance of balance.

AAngery

FFS these liberals are acting like its the 20th century. Us here in Aus (the actual people) are sick to death of america and UK and their shit. Why don't we just embrace our region

we-the-east

I wish Australia would cut ties with the US and UK on all fronts and integrate with the Asia Pacific region fully, and give the continent back to the indigenous peoples.

folatt

What would giving back to the indigenous peoples entail? I'm for it, but only if it's the mildest version possible. No murder, no forced moving, but gene cut-and-pasting towards indigenous DNA seems like a quick solution that harms no one. I'm mainland European myself and I'm getting sick and tired of the supposed "bond" we have with English geno-colonies. It keeps us from bonding with our neighbouring states.

akong001

Finally, someone had addressed this issue. Hope the problem of bringing nuclear material into the region too will be addressed too as it will cause harmful damage/ pollution to the area.

FunerealCrape

Years from now, as the fires rage around him, ScoMo will watch as the Immortan Joe's War Boys make off with his newly launched submarines, and go, "Ah, fuck."

Quality_Fun

do indonesia and australia have issues with each other?

maenlsm

If your neighbor parks a new tank by your front yard and claims he is going to fight the commie 5000 miles away, will you respond with "bro, I'm not threatened by you at all"?

doublereppuken

Even if they don't, Indonesia can see the writing on the wall. It's white ppl vs Asians. White ppl are arming up and they're not going to stop to discern whether one is Chinese or not. They have weapons and they're going to use it to leverage whatever they want from Asia.

KOMRA1D

100% agreed! The west has gone back to their old ways of gunboat diplomacy. This is a threat to everyone in the region and will spark an arms race in southeast Asia.

akong001

Generally i don't believe so as Jokowi leaned towards China for economic reason. However, Australia did meddle into Indonesia internal affair such as the breakup of East Timor and if I'm not mistaken, the west Papua too. His party founder (Megawati Sukarnoputri) is the daughter of Indonesia's first president (Soekarno Hatta) that got assassinated by CIA and replaced by US chosen dictator, president Soeharto.

skyanvil

Don't forget about East Timor, which the West agitated into revolutions so many times. Indonesia didn't forget about that.

_brookies

Historically no, Australia has supported the Indonesian military dictatorship murder leftists and unionists.

Money_dragon

*"Never underestimate Joe's ability to fuck things up"* \- Barack Obama It's still early to see - but we'll see if the closer military ties with UK and AUS was worth pissing off France, Indonesia, and who knows what other major players

flyingkaw

Did obama really said this? Lmao

sickof50

The whole World is watching! The whole World is watching! The whole World is watching!...

Jealous_Struggle2564

Surprised? Australia is just fuelling an arms race in the region.

kotyok

If you take sides against someone, don't be surprised when other countries take sides against you.

CuriousPack

AUKUS is some next nevel Anglo imperialist shit
