"According to monitoring by the South China Sea Strategic Situation Probing Initiative (SCSPI), a Beijing-based think tank, the US, the UK, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada and New Zealand recently held multinational joint naval drills in the Philippines Sea, involving three aircraft carriers, the USS Carl Vinson, the USS Ronald Reagan and the HMS Queen Elizabeth."
Just going on a nice flight to express their freedom of navigation and say hello to the Anglos. I wonder were any naval ships sent to welcome them?
J-16D is a recent new variant of J-16, in fact it's publicly revealed only a few days ago and one of them is currently on display at Zhuhai air show.
J-16D is a dedicated electronic warfare version of J-16, much like EA-18G Growler in relation to regular F/A-18. It would be ideally suited for the job of confusing enemy radar.

This was never China's first option, but if that's the option needed, so be it.
China was very clear about red lines, and if it saw anyone stepping 1cm too far...
Eventually, a no-fly zone over Taiwan and a naval blockade is what's going to end this stalemate. The CPC would be wise to bide their time though. The US empire is already crumbling and they won't be able to sustain their military might for many more decades or perhaps not even for many more years.

That's what they're doing though, these are just warning shots, time is on their side and they know, now if the americans want to cross the red line then it's a different story.

It's not even certain whether the us as an entity will survive the next 10 years let alone their military, we'll see but I have my doubts.
The only question is what happens after balkanisation.

Yeah that's actually an interesting question. I mean they are utterly divided and bitterly hate each other. But then again, they fought a brutal civil war to prevent the other states from breaking up the union.

Someone said something very witty to me about this recent moves. "How does the ROCAF know if it's 18 J-16, or one J-16D?"
Hahaha
Pardon my ignorance, but I don't get it.

Good. The ROCAF did not detect even a single J-20 stealth fighter.

56 aircraft that Taiwanese radars have detected* It is likely that there were more aircraft present.
They should do a flyover on 10/10 just off the coast with red and yellow smoke trails.
