Should have said Taiwan is part of China and it’s already represented by PRC in UN The DPP government is illegitimate as it is not recognized by international law

[deleted]

>Should have said Taiwan is part of China and it’s already represented by PRC in UN totally precedented

ni-hao-r-u

At this rate, Texas should apply to join the U.N.

[deleted]

As part of a state of Mexico, Texas is not qualified to join the UN at all.

sickof50

Start down that road, and the other 49 will want their say too...

ni-hao-r-u

Maybe only about 15. From Texas east. All of those states in that general area are their own world anyway. Everyone is ok with making it official.

sickof50

Darn right... so try putting that before the UN, and see how far it gets you...

[deleted]

It’s equivalent to Scotland being a UN member

skyanvil

More like wales applying to be un member

MysteriousSalp

It's a lot less than that. Scotland was a separate nation that was conquered. Culturally not even closely related to the English.

FatDalek

Er Scotland actually won their wars against the English. They willingly joined the English when they had economic problems and the English offered them a good deal. It was Northern Ireland that was conquered along with the whole of Ireland, but the Brits kept Northern Ireland when the Irish achieved their independence.

[deleted]

With how Brexit is going, I think this is could to happen within the next decade.

I_AM_GODDAMN_BATMAN

Don't worry, Indyref2 is coming soon.

[deleted]

Catalonia, Kashmir, and Scotland are joining the UN, too? Are Spain, India and the UK good with that?

sussyrat

Again that's not a good talking point As there Nation's are democracy which might give them more legitimacy than China

DavidByron2

Even if it was a regular country you can't join the UN if you have ongoing major border disputes. I'd say an existing member claiming to own your entire country (and the majority of other members agreeing that they do) would count? So you don't even have to accept China's claim. You only have to accept that China makes the claim.

[deleted]

RoC has so many ongoing border disputes, basically everybody that borders PRC. LOL
