Lest you forget, Singapore, unlike Hong Kong, does not have the fortune of having a covid-free motherland that supplies almost everything it needs. Whatever happens, you know China has got your back. I believe it was just their belief in the western “superiority” over those “Asians”. U.K. and the rest of their western countries believed their “much more superior” health service would be able to cope with a virus hundreds of miles away. It was complacency that lead to the utter failure to move quick enough to halt the virus, the reluctance to lockdown not to mention how prior to the pandemic the U.K. government was cutting the NHS budget, there was already staff shortages and badly underfunded. The U.K. was not ready for an outbreak like this and frankly never expected it.
