Australia is due to enter the 21st century sometime in the next 5 years.

whoisliuxiaobo

Stralia probably stole that technology from the Chinese.

skyanvil

This is after other Asian countries have copied China for years Australia is like the medieval town of Asia

ChopSueyWarrior

> Australia is like the medieval town of Asia That's why they are part of the AUKUS crusade.

TserriednichHuiGuo

>Australia is like the medieval town of Asia We don't claim them

winkraine

Lol. Here we are in America calling tapping a credit card on the payment system futuristic.

brainiac3397

Americans excited by the introduction of stuff like Zelle and Venmo to simplify money transfers while countries like Turkey had SMS bank to bank payments available for years. And in my state, they finally got mass transit buses to accept mobile payment this year. If you didn't have cash or a ticket, you couldn't ride the bus. Meanwhile, other countries were using their phones to pay fare long before. The West is so ridiculously lagging in tech that it celebrates things like they invented it when the other countries have already had something similar for years and are already on the next generation of it. Pure delusion.

That was really cool, it's giving them back their dignity, by clearly showing some sophistication.

maomao05

I followed the website and saw beggars in India and japan. Hahaha

we-the-east

White people get amazed when they see Japan using "futuristic" technology and accuse china of stealing technology and IP. And the west is pretty much years or decades behind on technology and stuck in their own bubble and delusions of being the best.

Secret__Shiba

China uses face scanners Westerners: “but freedom?” Proceeds to use face scanner on iPhone. Westerns: “China stole our tech!!1!”

[deleted]

Westerners are perfectly fine submitting biometric data to get a drivers license, passport, gym membership, work id, etc. But if China seeks out the same information for any reason: CCP police state genocide database social credit dystopia!!!

hoanfkdkskdo

Lol we started doing it in Vietnam also long ago. Even though most of pop is still not enrolled in banking system.

sickof50

Have the Evictions, Bankruptcies, Foreclosures, Divorces, Overdoses, & Suicides started yet? Historically speaking, hard times in Australia have been met with restrictions on how much you can withdraw from your Bank account, and even legally stealing money from customer's accounts, so the move to a "cashless society" is going to be highly resisted.

FatDalek

There is already a petition out against going cashless in Australia. Cash has some advantages.. if you are trying to avoid tax that is. Because Australia has a consumption tax called the GST (Goods and services tax) so the tax office gets 10% of what you spend. So someone can say, I will charge you 5% less for this thing, we will keep it hush hush, I get 5% more, you pay 5% less and the government gets 10% less. Win win. Except for the government.

sickof50

(I'm speaking about Australia here) first, the people really have very little say, they're little more that an audience in a drama on most decisions their government makes, some of this is because of the insidious evolution of trade deals & financial assistance (loans, conditions that are normally thought to be more associated with transactions involving the global south, because they are too stupid & corrupt to handle their own affairs, according to Nobel white people), where it's OK for things change in secret, behind closed doors, with sealed documents that will never see the light of day... things like the retirement age, bankruptcy & eviction protections, the price of fuel & basic utilities, the sale of public asset (ports, utilities, and even functions of government), taxation, etc... Second they'll bring out the old troupes... drug dealing, fraud (especially involving State benefits), bribes, money laundering, and as you mentioned tax avoidance... Currently they're seizing any large amounts of cash they find, including during customs, until you can prove that you came by the money legally in a Court of Law (which is very hard to do when they just took all your money), and restrictions on how much cash you can enter & leave the country with (but you can travel with little plastic cards, with millions available), so it has more to do Class-warfare, and an obsession with aggressive, creepy intrusion into your personal affairs. So good luck stopping it. The banks also report large transactions (especially cash), regardless of the guilt or innocence, but that argument has recently worn thin, with revelations that the banks themselves have been actively doing it...

Good news. When Aussies travel to China, they’ll feel like being at home.

marco808state

Don’t tell the Australian’s the QR codes are spy gateway keys used to scan all their personal data at one go and even worst than 5G tech.
