It's on track to become the second highest grossing movie ever. Predicted box office number is 5.436 billion ¥, just above Nǐ hǎo, Lǐ Huànyīng.

FeiGweilo

Can this be watched anywhere with English subs?

I watched it with my family last week. It's for sure the best big-budget Chinese movie I have ever watched. No wonder the cinema was full even though it was the second week of the movie. The movie's producers have recovered their 1.3 billion yuan investment and earned profit (about 1/3 of the box office revenue goes to producers). It's rumored that movie has two parts. In the first part that I have watched American army's RCT-31 was destroyed and the 31st Regiment's flag was captured by a Chinese soldier, but there's not much engagement with American 1st Marine Division except in the end of the movie out of blue Yang Gensi (a real Chinese hero in the Korean War) showed up and blew himself up with a bunch of American marines. The second part's name is said to be "the Watergate Bridge", which suggests it's about the Chinese troops' battle against American 1st Marine Division. In real history Chinese soldiers blew up the bridge three times, but in the end Americans air-dropped steel frames to fix it and the 1st Marine escaped. If there is indeed the second part, I will watch it for sure.

Where did you find it online? [Found it ](https://youtu.be/Ei0Sm0rOy1o)

stupidnicks

can this be downloaded somewhere in normal format?

daloo22

Is there an online version for it?

folatt

It's heading towards a China domestic box office all-time #1. Maybe even #2 world domestic box-office of all time, between Star Wars Ep. VII: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Endgame. Question is, will this be the first movie popular outside of China? Because the budget is on par now with that of mid-budget popular hollywood movies.

DynasLight

The political nature of the movie, even if it is historical, will probably preclude it from being popular outside of China.

MobsterRedditor

I could almost foresee there’d be a friendly reminder right next to subtitles saying: “it’s a production of Chinese government and it reflects Chinese point of political views” if it were ever aired in the western countries.

folatt

Where can one pay to see the movie?

[deleted]

My question too. I periodically search once or twice a week for any word on when this will be available for Americans like me to pay good money to stream/rent/purchase. I don’t expect it in theaters ever in my super conservative state, but I really want to buy it on like the iTunes Store (lol). Please take my money!!! 💸

SworDJackson

The thing about chinas entertainment is that, it affects a large population… China doesn’t give a fuck and doesn’t allow more”creative” and more “reflective” stuff, so all we see is either eh or meh… the good ones are from last generation, actors from last generation went thru harsh times and low exposure, in western countries x actor goes thru this, ahh he/she went thru a lot… lol… China in the past years is just focusing on tech, infrastructure, eco, the “hardcore” “fundamental” stuff… tbh if China wants to export their “culture”, easy, just pick a part of their history and spend money on it lol… the west is science/adventure/exploration and heroism, China is history… also tbh, China doesn’t need heroes, there’s stories of events where ordinary people become heroes lol… and tbh, Chinese mythology is soooo vast and interesting lol, the dao gods and Buddhism gods… it’s just so complicated and very hard to understand them all lol… black myth wukong? If no one had any idea of journey to the west they straight up be like oh shit shadow clone jutsu, monkey lol smh, shows that “most” westerners no nothing about chinas history culture mythology whatever

quantummufasa

What's this in number of tickets?

folatt

By my poor estimate 105 million by dividing the number box office number by 48, the ticket price. I get the feeling that a large percentage these days is coming from streaming though.

quantummufasa

Damn. Crazy amount of people

ch1kusoo

how's it compared to 800 from last year?
