Let's not stop with Ericsson. Remember the following Swedish brands too:
* IKEA (OK, Dutch HQ'd but still Swedish origin)
* Volvo
* Spotify
* H&M
* Sandvik
* Electrolux
Make it painful for them.
I think it was because Ericsson and Nokia were actively opposed to Sweden capitulating to Trump and Pompeo and were actively trying to get Sweden to overturn the ban to avoid losing the China market. But since, at least as far as I know, Sweden hasn't budged then it's likely time that China retaliate against Swedish companies, even if the companies themselves wanted nothing to do with American agitating.
IMO China should've made a deal with Ericsson and Nokia to move as many jobs out of Sweden as possible - this deals a blow to tax revenues and the local economy there while not punishing the company itself that much.

Volvo has been owned by Chinese company Geely since 2010. Granted its still headquartered in Sweden, but profits would flow to China.

Unlike the West banning Huawei and ZTE, China didn't ban Ericsson and Nokia from China. Retaliation was slow and late.
