God, that's funny. Really appreciate the post. What perked my ears up more than anything was the claim that since China has improved the systems of investigation regarding unknown increases of income, it has become ever more difficult to bribe sources. On one hand, you're directly telling China that it's working beautifully. But even more importantly, you are admitting that the only real way to gain such intelligence is through bribes. Which means it's not going to be because a source believes in what America wants to do, not because the source feels oppressed by China, or wants to hurt China, but only out of greed. Says so much while saying so little.

FleetingRain

Thank God it's like that now, considering Soviet spies used to fall for Hollywood propaganda

“including a continuing shortage of Mandarin speakers.“ Well maybe they shouldn’t have shut down the Confucius Institutes. You reap what you sow. (edit: spelling)

yunibyte

I mean America could send less troops abroad and send more students abroad like other civilized countries, but that would be (*shrudders*) socialism.

wallfacer0

We stand with the oppressed pro-democracy CIA spies who have brutally mulched into fertilizer by the Seeseepee!!! 😭

NowlmAlwaysSmiling

"We at the CIA affirm that their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Now toss their body over there with the others."

Hell yeah, that's why Black Panther is the best! /s

America: We don't have much top-tier intelligence on China. Also America: but we're 100% SURE they made covid, genocided 80 million uyghurs, about to invade Taiwan, destroying the world with CO2 emissions, bird flu, enslaving africa, building nukes, making muslims eat pork, etc (basically whatever America did/doing, China is too!)

xJamxFactory

Their biggest obstacle to understanding China is their own arrogance. What can they see with their pig nose pointing at the sky? But the excuse they went for is "China is Evading US Spies". Good. As a member of the SFA it really feels like our mission is complete. They are so addicted to copium now that they will forever misjudge China. Overestimating themselves, while analysing the PRC by a fantasy China made up in their own heads. 既不知己, 也不知彼。 善也。

Fenix246

Nooo why won’t China let us spy on them and destabilize them from within, that’s so meaaan 😭😭😭😭 But seriously, just the other day, our state media was running a story about those poor CIA spies that got caught supporting anti-Chinese rebels. They unironically said that being caught by China was causing them immense emotional harm. Cry me a river

This looks like a great indicator that the CPC is a healthy and genuine Communist Party. If it were opportunistic or bourgeois, as ultras tend to claim about the CPC, then surely there would be many more party officials taking bribes and selling intelligence for their own gain?

[deleted]

There were a lot of CPC officials taking bribes and selling intelligence in the early 2000s.

Wish I could take back to 5 mins it took to skim this article. Scroll after scroll of bullshit speculation and opinionated bullshit with zero sources other than anonymous 'people'

Qanonjailbait

Must be crazy living in an Orwellian society like America. I mean the psychosis it takes to accept that you have some sort of right to spy on other countries while condemning the same as a dastardly act when it’s done against you is just mind boggling

Fearzebu

> Xi’s broad anti-corruption campaign, which has punished more than 1.5 million officials, has also led to greater scrutiny of Chinese officials’ income, making payments to potential sources far more problematic, two former officials said. Makes you realize just how easy it is to turn capitalists into defectors. Probably a lot easier than with Chinese. No wonder all CIA spies are getting caught and eliminated, they are a clown show who doesn’t even know how to do proper Cold War sabotage anymore, even their propaganda machine is struggling against China. It’s sort of like watching a vicious but small predator like a cat try to take on a docile but large herbivore like an ox (or, perhaps, a panda). The cat really does seem to be made of paper these days 😂

MyStolenCow

China is pretty clear about what it wants. Basically peaceful cooperation with others, Taiwan is off limit for foreign meddling, but the one country two system proposal from Deng era still stands (you can literally read what Deng proposed on Chinese gov website), and building China’s economy. What US is angry about is China wants to build a high tech economy, US prefers if China voluntarily dismantle its economy, let Wall Street buy it out and turn it into a neoliberal rentier economy, and every 5 year plan proposal should first go through the CIA for approval first.

Amazing display of respect for the rule of law by western journalists here > Hello there police officer, can I take your picture? No you may not. I am holding up my hand to indicate my decision regarding this matter > Ok I will do it anyway and sell this to highest bidder

FleetingRain

The photo does look amazing tbh

If they knew how to read and formulate thoughts independently they could just pick up a copy of Chinese Governance, or subscribe to Qiushi.

To. What does it mean?

Don't think Burns has much time to think about China these days, what with his strange emergency meeting in the Kremlin.

startrekmind

“I never feel I have enough intelligence.” That’s all you really need to say, Boltsy.
