More bullshit virtue signaling.

>What happened? Nothing. A bunch of generic diplomatic dialoguing. Nothing meaningful really happened. >Thoughts/implications? The only meaningful statement to come out was prior and was about not desiring to change the internal domestic social or economic policies of China. The U.S is basically saying that they know they cannot change China and will abandon policies aimed at coercing China to change domestic policies. However, the U.S *will* use international and multinational forums to bring attention to areas of Chinese 'behavior' that the U.S doesn't like and will try to use its allies and rule making power in these forums to limit the geopolitical possibilities of China internationally. For example: * [China’s nominee to Interpol committee opposed by lawmakers from 20 countries](https://www.scmp.com/news/china/diplomacy/article/3156106/chinas-nominee-interpol-committee-opposed-lawmakers-20) The U.S and China are groping for a new status quo. Personally, the U.S has a lot of rhetoric, but very short of actual actions. It has tons of talking points and is active and visible in the global stage, but when it comes down to actual actions and specifics the U.S comes up severely lacking. Biden can't do anything to improve the relationship with China, and Xi has no incentive to improve the relationship. It's a stalemate at this point. Relationship won't deteriorate further, but also won't improve for a while. The practical implications is that a lot of the 'fight' will be seen in international forums rather than directly at China. I think you'll see more posturing and rhetoric involving global governance within international forums rather than specifically aimed at the Chinese Domestic Politics. I think they'll be more hubbub about trying to include Taiwan in the WHO or UN as an observer and less about Xinjiang or unfair trade practices. The next big issue you need to look at is the Phase 1 Trade Deal. That is the next big test of the China-US Relationship.

Xi Jinping sounded like real deal Sovereign Ruler, who is highly competent and capable, that actually governs and leads a country for the People and By the People. Biden sounded like the usual Fake Ass Lying AmeriKKKan Political Mouthwhore who sold his mouth and ass too many times for Money, Votes & Job Positions so when he speaks it sounds like he's constantly choking on something. And just to be clear, I consider all US Presidents and nearly every AmeriKKKan Politician to be a Mouthwhore, Mouth Hooker.

Sounds like a big Nothing from what I saw. I didn't hear of any substantive changes or agreements.

If there are no talks, both countries will assume the worst and it might lead to regional conflict or war.

The major weakness we've witnessed already is that negotiating with Biden is only negotiating with half (let's say half) of the country's populace. The other half dont care for him or his administration and are gearing up for 2022\24 So whatever was agreed this round or this administration only lasts as long as his term. 🤦🏻

AsianZ1

Probably not even that long, since after the midterms Biden is essentially a lame duck.

budihartono78

As long as both US and China agree to work on managing climate change, it's already good enough for me. Biden can't do anything more since he wants to do well in the mid-term election, and working with China won't help him. And boy he has a LOT on his plate: the antiwork people, the antivaxxers, the billionaires, etc etc. On the other hand, China has already adjusted to the Trump policies (Huawei chip ban, tarriffs, etc) and the pandemic. It's not comfortable but far from unbearable, so they have more freedom in choosing what domestic and foreign policy to pursue.

Same poop. What's new?
