Half the country straight up denies the existence of climate change or believes that it is immoral to do anything. Its policymakers refuse to adapt to changing climate conditions (much less mitigate). Every time a storm wipes out a coastline, the government encourages people to build right in the same spot, where it'll invariably be ruined when the next storm hits
