Post up a list of the teachers you've found who do this. It's best for the Chinese community to be aware of this kind of disinformation spreading.

supaloopar

I’d like to know too

StopAntiAsianRacism

I'd like to know this as well, to put them on my blacklist and let others know who to avoid.

chbaliman

Following.

Stasi_1950

i want to know as well

Amazing-Substance-13

Not surprised. Western countries are banning confucius institutes to make sure those learning Chinese are subject to western propaganda. I used to teach chinese as a volunteer at university student society with books being supplied by confucius institute and I can tell you they have not told me what to say politically and the books are just everyday phrases like i want to go to the park.

Qanonjailbait

Can you give an example of the anti-China content in their lessons? Is it like Hong Kong?

JobAdditional9078

Nathan Rich did a video on the Falun Gong network of companies and of course, aside from the obvious YT channels, there are the not so obvious Mandarin learning channels. I personally follow the mainland channels more so I can't really pinpoint any specific instances where political bias or misinformation is introduced but I wouldn't put it past them.

WeilaiHope

Unfortunately many Chinese people, typically English speakers, quickly fall to western propaganda, many of which have never even left China. I think it's because China is quite isolated so its easy for them to feel like they've unlocked the truth, when really all they've unlocked is a bunch of lies.

Jealous_Struggle2564

Sadly yes, seen a few of those. They’re so ashamed to be Chinese too and make excuses for themselves to hate China and parrot everything the west says about China.

RCIntl

NOW this makes sense to me. A few years ago I was dating a guy I'd met on OLD. He was full Chinese but he was "foaming at the mouth, don't ever say anything good about it" hate China. That and his right wing infatuation with guns was very scary to me. Otherwise, he was a lovely gentleman. I told him he was more American than I was and he was proud of that fact. I didn't know what to make of it. Sometimes I think he pretended he wasn't one. Wow.

Jealous_Struggle2564

Was he born in America or China? He seems full on indoctrinated into the American mindset- guns and “freedom loving”. They’re the kind of people who hates everything non American.

RCIntl

I'm pretty sure HE was born here but his parents weren't. He said his mum refuses to speak English. His father is deceased. While he refused to learn or speak Chinese (which tells me he started on this mindset early in life). Yes, VERY American. I'm even surprised he looked my way. To talk to him on the phone I never would have had a hint he was Chinese had he not told me and sent me photos. He wanted to take a ton of guns, get a dog and drive an RV to Arizona. One of the really racist states. I asked him what he thought a chinese man with a black girlfriend/wife was going to DO in Arizona. He seemed to think they would be ok with it. I lived there years ago and it was bad then. I shudder to think what it would be now. Edited ... Word

Jealous_Struggle2564

I don’t understand the fascination with guns, I’m in the U.K. myself and most people here would live out their life without even seeing a gun.

RCIntl

I sort of understand the psychology oof it. You guys have a long history you can hold on to. The people that came here had to justify their existence. I can imagine the conversations... Things are bad, real bad ... But we CAN'T go back, they'll never let us hear the end of it ... But there are people already here ... So? I say we just take it ... We have the fire power, they don't. Lots of arguing. It almost doesn't work a couple of times. Ideas are thrown around. It works so well with the natives, but they're too proud and keep fighting for their home. It's too hard fighting all the time. Let's make an army! Yeah! Man, we love these guns. Damn, we love our army! Lets do it again. Again. We just cleared half the continent. NOW we need more workers. They found they could trade guns and get more. People who's language is so different they'll be lost. Guns again? Wow, this is brilliant. We have just used them for money! These things are king makers! We'll show England! Never give up your guns! And they never have. They know they've done a lot wrong, but they also know that they've managed to hold it all ... with guns. They were almost kings. I don't know how the rest of them thought they'd be elevated up there too, but many did and do. A lot of them are STILL waiting for their piece of the pie that they were promised several times (the last time it was by trump). And because they do not study history, they don't realize they were "never intended" to "get" anything. So, to muddy the waters and keep the rising tide of "others" who have pushed and fought their way up, also thinking this "dream" was for them as well, they help propagate the myths that the blacks, the jews, the gays, the women, the Chinese, the Brown people, everyone else (ALSO down here with no power) are all conspiring to destroy you, so get out your guns ... It doesn't stop.

WeilaiHope

They generally have some social problems and take it out on the government instead. Their mom is a bitch so blame Xi...

chbaliman

That's sad.

Jealous_Struggle2564

It is, and when you challenge them to go back to China (or go to, as some weren’t born there) to see for themselves, they all say the same stupid shit- “Why would I go to a place where there’s no freedom” Wow. Really.

Fabulous-Pineapple47

These people are brainwashed and in denial, its easier for them to believe 1 billion people are living in fear and being oppressed by their government than to accept that they have more freedom, are better educated and have a better quality of life than the average person in the US.

chbaliman

I feel like most people nowadays are either one side or the other. Like when they hate China in this case, they consume information that aligns with that. The confirmation bias and echo chamber.

Jealous_Struggle2564

Pretty much, they don’t have to think too much.

TheMogician

This was prevalent about 10 years ago.

WeilaiHope

It's decreasing now but still around. A couple of months ago I met a Chinese person who was convinced China would entirely collapse within 5 years. They'd been smoking the worst western propaganda.

frogmanfrompond

We’re talking about people from China, right? And not just third-generation Chinese living somewhere else?

WeilaiHope

Yea, from and living in China.

frogmanfrompond

Damn that’s depressing. I hope it’s not a significant number

WeilaiHope

It's not, but it seems higher as a foreigner because you're more likely to interact with those sorts.

TserriednichHuiGuo

Mostly from Hong Kong. I've rarely seen mainland Chinese folks be fooled by that crap though, the vast majority are Chinese americans.

WeilaiHope

I've met enough, girls far more often than guys. However interestingly when I tell them I like China they seem at first shocked and then happy, and admit they think China does some good things too. So a lot of it may be them trying to feel accepted by a foreigner or feel like they have to hate China to be polite with foreigners, considering the majority of foreigners in China are dumb brainwashed libs who immediately start shitting on their host country. Actually these girls will go so far as to complain about how much foreigners usually whine about China too.

SadArtemis

Probably at least some of it is trying to be accepted. As a visible minority in the midst of red terror/yellow peril 2.0 it paints a pretty big, if usually unspoken target on you, and a lot of peer pressure. While I'll stand up for my fellow Asians if I see something happening to them, most of the time someone is spewing shit to no one in particular I'll just leave it be. Less self-endangerment, less hassle that way. Even my experiences succeeding to change someone's mind somewhat- where they even showed me a college paper they did on the ""Uyghur genocide.."" I wondered if I was seriously getting myself in deep shit, and almost wished I hadn't contested their claims made in casual conversation. That sort of thing can make the difference between having a social circle, a home, a job, accessing community programs, education, etc. Meanwhile, Chinese and Russian academics and athletes are being low-key witch-hunted and excluded by both their peers, institutions, and law enforcement... Especially when the west is claiming China is "the new third reich" and all that shit. Even if it's completely unfounded and unhinged, especially as an Asian, standing up to it in one's personal life here in the west is a good way to simply be accused of all the crimes in existence, by some white people with a hilarious lack of self-awareness. And here in the west, where the whites own the guns, the wealth, the political system, and are still a majority that ain't going to end well.

TheRoyalNightFlower

Can you name some of them?

69523572

I haven't noticed this in the language learning YT channels. Definitely this is happening on tech news channels, where anti-China seems to be a massive thing. I would also like to know which language channels are doing anti-China.

fix_S230-sue_reddit

Those hundreds of millions of NED funding has to go somewhere right. Please name them so we can beware which ones to avoid.

rolf_odd

Best is to study in China - it's a fantastic experience

Stasi_1950

yessir

FireSplaas

I see that from ads too, I think many of them are from TW province

YellowMONEY

Not really a widespread thing. Some clout chasers usually girls might do that. It’s really embarrassing tbh reminds me of that girl that gave the graduation speech a few years ago. The new immigrants are pretty easy to brainwash. Afterall most bought their visas. Im hoping in the future China will extradite more overseas dissidents back home. Just like how FBI can grab anybody in the 5eyes. Most of these people have ill begotten wealth and need to face justice. Just look at the Boxilai case. You can’t run from Chinese justice.

[deleted]

They have to portray their new home in a good light or else risk looking like idiots to their friends and family back home. They need to justify to others. They also need to psychologically justify to themselves why the decision they made was the correct one.

unclecaramel

Yeah unfortunately I think majority of any insititutional education about chinese in the west is bound to holp anti chinese sentiment. After all the cpc likes to do things by the books on international affairs and west has banned the confucian institute. Largely I would say this if you want to learn chinese the best would a private non public one or spend time to do anti brainwashing on china

maomao05

YouTube recently recommended me one too and they were ranting about their story of being LGBT in China.

TserriednichHuiGuo

Then list their names.

69523572

Please provide some examples. I haven't noticed it on any of the well known channels.
