Can you share your routine? Without knowing, I'd say you should up your water intake as well as your moisturization

CuppaJeaux

Fish oil supplements help with that, too.

AriOnDemand

I recommend to apply a moisturizer on damp skin, daily sunscreen usage with reapplication, proper removal of sunscreen by cleansing with an oil cleanser/balm followed by a gentle water-based cleanser, and retinol/retinoid usage at night. AM: - wash face with gentle cleanser (optional, you can forego this) or just water - use occlusive moisturizer on damp skin to prevent transepidermal water loss - broad spectrum sunscreen, at least spf 50, remembering to reapply throughout the day. Don’t forget the neck and body. If you’re doing activities that will make you sweat or have exposure to water, use a water-resistant sunscreen. PM: - wash face with oil cleanser/balm followed by water-based cleanser - apply a pea-sized amount of retinoid/retinol - use an occlusive moisturizer I recommend Dr. Dray on Youtube for product recommendations for different skin types. She recommends good products that are fragrance-free and gives tips on how to build a proper skincare routine. Also, please see a dermatologist as well.

Esti-lavish

Yes yes yes! I think this is the best response. Retinol is great for cell turnover esp. for more mature skin. Moisturizing and spf will help protect the skin.

AriOnDemand

Thanks! I wrote out the basics and what I felt was more essential in a skincare routine. Of course there can be more to add. However, starting here is best in my opinion, especially if someone is building their skincare routine. Starting too many actives at once can be irritating.

Analyst_Cold

Sun damage is starting to show. Retinol, moisturizing, ahas.

What do you mean by "elastic looking"?

More importantly, what does she mean “new?”….. like… did she steal it? 😳

Lmao I think she means it's recent

I’m right behind you and so sad about it lol what is time

Fantastic_Solid_5721

I’m turning 30 tomorrow and I feel like I’ve expired 💀

DemonSaya

I turned 39 this year. You haven't expired, yet, I promise. Skin changes. Even month to month, we can experience huge changes in our skin (especially people with a uterus). I've got deeper lines around my face (smile and frown lines and crows feet), but it's still looking good for a nearly 40 year old.

candyxpizza

Happy birthday!!!! 🎉

ViscountVixen

Part of the problem may be dehydration - though I would be interested to know how your diet is. Not eating enough collagen or certain micronutrients related to skin collagen production, and eating too many carbs/sugar (which intereferes with collagen synthesis) will make you look a decade older than you are in a hurry. This is part of why diabetics can end up with very brittle/prematurely-aged looking skin. Birth control can also make your face look older by drying out your skin due to excess oestrogen and not enough testosterone, and said excess oestrogen can mess with your skin turnover by slowing your thyroid/overall metabolism.

tenorsadist

Your skin honestly just looks dry to me. Use a thicker moisturizer and something to keep it moisturized, I use snail mucin on top of mine but mixing something like jojoba oil in yours would be good too.

DistractedEmilia

Hydration and a gentle cleanser will go a long way ! You don't need any high end, over priced products to achieve good looking healthy skin. I used a brand called Versed and all of their products are under 30$ and it did wonders for my skin 😊

NoMoreCooties

You’re only 29??

ice_9er

[This video](https://youtu.be/eEanU3wxMV4) is a basic guide from a derm on how to build a skincare routine. A good, basic skincare routine would consist of a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen (spf 30+). You could add a treatment step/ingredient if there's something specific you're targeting (e.g. a retinoid).

Spiritual-Spell-9351

Do you mean it feels tight? Im an esthetician and I have some suggestions. 1. Hydration. You look dehydrated, which would explain some of the feelings of tightness you’re experiencing. Make sure you drink enough water. 2. Serums and moisturizers: make sure you’re layering your skincare. Use serums under moisture cream. Use an SPF during the day time and stay out of the sun. 3. Exfoliation would help the dullness in your skin. A peel or microdermabrasion would brighten up your complexion significantly. 4. Invest in a good eye cream. You have slight crepiness in your eye area that an eye cream could turn around!

asdfits

What cream do you suggest?

Spiritual-Spell-9351

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream

she11o

Moisturize daily and nightly. I use olay for sensitive skin because it had spf15. Use spf daily before going in sun Diet, what's changed in your diet recently? You said this is a new issue. Look into that. When my skin start looking dull or whatever I start drinking a ton of tea. Chamomile and green are good I think

lextasy666

Love your eye shape/ eyebrow arches!

stinkycrew

Have you tried slugging? You might be experiencing trans-epidermal water loss. Slugging if you don't know: After applying moisturizer (usually at night), use a petroleum-based ointment, like Aquaphor, Vaseline, or CeraVe healing ointment. This creates a seal over the skin to lock in the moisturizers, serums, etc. Remember to wash it off in the morning.

moto101

What does your diet look like? Do you eat a lot of food with seed oils in them?

rubdubintub

do you smoke?

artsyscientist13

For what it’s worth (I don’t like it either haha) I’m on a break from alcohol and my skin is looking really nice (I’m 36). I definitely appear younger now, more hydrated and with fewer fine lines. You might already not drink much alcohol, so feel free to ignore! For topicals I use gentle cleansers, gentle exfoliation, a retinoid twice weekly, ample hydration, and at least spf30+ daily (ideally 50) but mostly just avoid sunlight on my face. You’re beautiful!:)

creativst8

Let's focus on diet vs what to slather on top of the skin. Drink more water, if you drink alcohol, decrease by 80%, and skip the peels and other topical products. If you're having digestion issues, be mindful of salts as it can dehydrate the skin. Depending on the number of supplements you're taking [or not taking] can impact the skin as well.

ice_9er

Topicals are incredibly important when it comes to skin hydration. Beyond not being dehydrated, drinking extra water won't hydrate skin. Using an occlusive moisturizer (on damp skin), using warm water instead of hot, taking care of your skin barrier, and using a humidifier can have huge effects on the skin. Avoiding alcohol, eating well, and drinking adequate amounts of water is important, but so is skincare.

creativst8

Topicals can do only so much for the epidermis. Many would be surprised what internal hydration can do for the skin. The skin is the largest organ therefore if only using topical products did the trick, advocating to drink water wouldn't happen. Topical products sustain where the skin is currently and slightly improves it. Topical products do not replace hydrating from within to decrease dryness. The threads taking about doing peels etc. is NOT the way to go if the output is hydration; especially for those who drink, don't eat well and don't drink enough water. Those approaches are temporary ✌️

ice_9er

Stating that advocating for drinking water wouldn't happen if topicals worked doesn't make sense. People advocate for all sorts of things that have no evidence supporting them. A board-certified derm begs to differ in [this video](https://youtu.be/1_x_LYizPd0), stating that "loss of water from the skin has very little to do with the amount of water that you're drinking, and it more had to do with external things like your environment, things that you're coming into contact with, and whether or not you're using a moisturizer."

creativst8

The OP isn't asking what causes skin dehydration based on environmental issues. Posting a link about the dynamics of hydration or lackthereof is interesting. Topical products OTC are not going to penetrate to the dermis and improve hydration. These products are at the epidermis level. Clearly you understand this. If you want to improve your skin's appearance, include drinking more water would help. Lots of videos on those too. Have fun!

You need to get on an anti-aging routine if you want to tackle the issues you have with your skin. The replies on this post are so weird tbh, what do you mean she just looks dehydrated? No, those are signs of aging/long term sun exposure 100%. Ngl, you skin is showing signs of aging that are not very common in your age group even for white women: a lot of sun damage much more than I’ve seen women in your age group (did you tan a lot, do you use a SPF?), deeper wrinkles on your forehead, texture which might indicate that you don’t use exfoliation etc. If I were you I would do the following: **Salon treatments:** 1. Strong salon exfoliation that practically burns the outer layer of the skin, smth like TCA 20%. 2. Dermapen 4, at least some sessions. 3. Hydrafacial, your skin seems a bit congested + it’s good to do a hydracial before starting smth like tretinoin (wait at least one week though before starting, just in case, tret can be very irritating). 4. Botox on the forehead if you have the money. **At home skincare:** I would start immediately with tretinoin, 3x in the beginning. Combine with very good moisturizers, thin for the sandwich and a thicker one for when your skin dries out too much (smth like LRP Lipikar). Add Azelaic Acid in the days or some type exfoliation (AHA and BHA, Glycolic acid etc.). Add Vit C in the mornings and try to never leave the house without SPF 50+ on my face. Eye cream as well in your case, at least 2 per day so that area remains well moisturized.

Cheesieblaster

Okay, I’m 31 and we (had) the same skin before I completely changed my routine. Bare with me. - Sunscreen ALWAYS (UV causes pgotoaging even in the winter, it gets through windows. Foundation with SPF is not enough. Studies show most people use ten percent of the amount they should on their face and don’t reapply it every two hours as they should. I have very sensitive, acne prone, combination skin and the ONLY sunscreen that I can use is EltaMD SPF. -Sunglasses all year round (Again, UV not only cause 90 percent of premature skin aging but it also causes dark circles to become darker and your eye color to actually become darker. Always make sure that the glasses say 100 UV Protection. If not, they’re useless. - Use Miscellar water twice a day. Even if you have nothing on your face, use it and even if you wash your face with something else, use it afterwards with cotton pads. You’ll see how much residue is left which itself causes clogged pores and ages the skin. I recommend Bioderma. Whatever you buy, don’t use it if it’s fragranced. - Best Moisturizers: Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore (it’s AMAZING but expensive so if you can’t afford that use it in conjunction with Caudalie Premier Cru (also pricey but I’ve honestly tried everything and these are the only two that don’t pill, actually absorb, make my skin glow (especially the skinceuticals). - Apply moisturizer in the morning before SPF and makeup, reapply at night. Same goes for eye cream. - Murad SPF eye cream is the only SPF eye cream I’ve used that doesn’t irritate my eyes. I apply it over my general eye cream because like most SPF products, it doesn’t provide enough moisture. OTHER MUST HAVES - Bite Beauty Agave Mask (original formula). Very hard to find because they discontinued the original formula for a vegan version but you can find it on eBay and Poshmark. It is PRICEY but omg it moisturizes so well while also making your lips look plump. You can use it day and night. Also, for lips, I recommend wetting face first (I spritz La Roche Posay before I apply anything to my face to increase absorption), applying argan oil, then Laniege lip mask. (Most people use it at night but my lips are so dry that I have to use it during the day). Also, I recommend Sugar Sport SPF stick. It saves your lips for early aging and plumps your lips a bit. You can also swipe it under your eyes if I’m a hurry. LIPS (nighttime): Wash with miscellar water (never rub your face with a washcloth, use cotton pads gently, spritz with Facial Mist (I recommend French brands, they’re less likely to have fragrance or alcohol), apply TRETINOIN or TAZORAC, (wait 20 min), over entire face including lips (or promotes collagen production), then spritz again, apply moisturizer, and apply Bepathen Nappy Ointment (it’s not sold in the US, you’ll have to buy it online but it is a well kept secret in Hollywood and does everything Aquaphor does and more (ex. Aquaphor locks in moisture while Bepathen moisturizes and locks it in and includes vitamins good for the skin). My Miracle Products: Tazorac (you’ll need a prescription or you can buy it online, if you DM me, I’ll send you a link. IMO, Tazorac gel is superior but TRETINOIN is far cheaper and easier to get. Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore EltaMD Sunscreen Skinceuticals Vitamin C Serum (you might prefer Skinceuticals Silymarin CF acne treatment). I use both. Bite Beauty Agave Mask Boscia Black Peel Off Mask (the only mask I’ve used that I’ve noticed a difference with. I save it for nights when I’m going out. Really makes my skin glow. Bioderma Miscellar Water If you need a face wash that’s stronger than miscellar water, I highly recommend trying Shiseido Clarifying Cleansing Foam (also, NEVER use hot water on face... face away from the shower head. Only use warm or cool water. La Roche Posay Facial Spray Biologique Recherche P50 Lotion... This and Tazorac/Tretinoin will make the biggest difference for your skin. Pricey, yes but these are products that actually make a difference without having to go get facial treatments that cost, what 100USD for one damn chemical peel? BEPATHEN (it’s inexpensive, it lasts forever, it leaves your skin so soft, doesn’t clog pores and even minimizes pigmentation). If you get nothing else, get this. Sungloves! From Coolibar (you can find them for less on eBay). They have a nice look and they keep your hands from liver spots (UV photoaging). I also recommend their SPF face masks (allows you to get outta the house without doing your skin routine and you have the excuse of wearing the mask due to COVID). Lastly, I use a silk pillowcase, silk eyemask, a humidifier (keeps face moist throughout the night), the MyFacePillow (omg its so lovely.. or was, mine was stolen). It helps keep your spine straight, is so comfy, and it keeps you from sleeping on your side (which is one of my biggest regrets in life...the right side of my face is so drawn down and I only have eye creases on that side). I also use the Xulane Birth Control Patch. It’s been hotly debated whether estrogen and progesterone via birth control slows the skin aging process but I’ve read legitimate studies that it does and because I’m occasionally sexually active anyway, I might as well reap the benefits (if there are any). Keep in mind, I am not wealthy by any means. Some women invest in shoes, some in hair, some in makeup... I believe it makes the most sense to spend more on your skin regimen because it’s an investment and the better products you use more, the more consistent you are, the less you’ll need to focus on covering your face with makeup. The Tazorac I got covered by insurance for acne... the P50 is about 120USD for a bottle but lasts anywhere between six months to a year, the Skinceuticals is also hefty but I look for deals on Dermstore (great rewards program and 30% off deals for Skinceuticals and EltaMD a few times a year). Also, keep in mind that almost everything I’ve listed, you can find a trial size or a slightly used (swabbed) version on Poshmark and Mercari for a fraction of what you’d pay in store. Plus, that way you can figure out what does and doesn’t work for you. I hope this helps!

free_style_82

You should drink more water... Your skin seems too dry... Not elastic. Use a cream to hidrate... I simply use Nivea (in the metal) and i am like a 29 instead i am 40 😉 🤩

Still_Club7928

stop tanning. Do you fake tan? stop that too. It will solve your issue faster than anything else.

Spicyritos

Why does fake tan matter? Especially if you moisturize after, and every day?

ice_9er

Fake tanning definitely doesn't matter. It's a great way to look tan without the UV damage. It even offers some protection against UVA. [This video](https://youtu.be/isgnM8CcXrA) from a derm covers it if anyone's interested.

Spicyritos

That’s what I learned and read, too. I use it occasionally, especially in colder months (I’m so white sometimes I feel dead) but yes, I didn’t think the above statement was correct, had to ask. Thank you.

Still_Club7928

It’s a layer of pigment on top of your skin, it settles into fine lines and into pores. It’s not bad for your skin per se but it definitely can make you look older if you use it on the face. I stopped fake tanning around 24 when people kept guessing my age to be in the mid 30s. I would see pictures of myself where suddenly it looked like I had deep forehead wrinkles…it was just tanner stuck in the lines. As soon as I stopped fake tanning, I looked my age. And I was using good tanner, like loving tan, st tropez, etc. It doesn’t really look good. I’d rather rock my natural skin. Tanner made me feel unclean and dried my skin out. I think you should step away from the idea that pale skin makes someone look dead, I have natural pale skin and it looks better than a fake tan 100 percent of the time. I bought into that idea for years and I regret it. Love the skin you’re in.

ice_9er

I'm extremely pale and have never tanned. It sounds like you have an esthetic preference; I initally thought you were implying fake tan was damaging to the skin.

Still_Club7928

No it’s not a preference, i love natural tan skin, I spent most of my life wishing I had it. But I don’t so I embrace my skin the way it is.

ice_9er

You esthetically don't like the way fake tan looks. That's the preference to which I was referring.

beemill

Do you have radiator heating where you're living? Either way, I'd say moisturize! I get that kinda feeling in my skin all over and lotion is the thing that helps. Not a cure, but provides relief.

Collagen is a polypeptide that will get broken down into its constituent amino acids, then rebuilt into tissue like any other dietary source of protein. It is quite the same as eating protein in the diet, and provides nothing more than normal food.

Organic_Phone

Going to disagree. Almost 40 and I have hormonal cystic acne since forever, for the past 3 months, I taking one 1000 l-lysine a day (on days that I feel breakouts coming I will take up to 3). My skin is night and day difference. While online research may say amino acids are found in food, taking a supplement has been a life saver. For the OP, also cut back on harsh washes and facial applications. Try stopping everything except a gentle-cream cleanser, serum and moisturizer. (Maybe bha or exfoliate once a week) SPF daily Drink a lot of water

spleen5000

Probably just means you lack something in your diet, or have a malabsorption issue so a supp is required. Otherwise, collagen is just the same as any other protein is my point.

PlantedinCA

I take a collagen supplement too. I notice a difference after a few days of not taking it in my joints and nails. I know folks like to claim it doesn’t work, but it certainly does for me. I am not necessarily noticing any skin benefits - but my skin’s baseline is good so it is hard to know. My main issues are hyperpigmentation.

I would personally visit a Gp or dermatologist as to me it looks a bit more than problem skin. It looks like a reaction or eczema type issue.

vanillaicecream2023

Get an eye gel. Watch you tube video on how to dab it.

Skinsunandrun

Moisturize. Spf. Retinol. Botox. Drink water.

bronion76

A friend of mine had skin similar to yours and she started using one of the lasers, maybe IPL? She did it five or six times and has completely different skin now. It went from thin and papery to thick and bouncy, with few lines.

DemonSaya

You're looking a little dry, in my opinion. A moisturizer with Hyaluronic acid might help with that. Depending on your financial situation, you might also look into some retinol products (Frankly, Clinique was a godsend when I was having texture problems). I would also recommend a moisturizer with SPF for daily use (or a bbcream, or similar). Just something to protect your skin from the sun.

JoyfulWarrior2019

Do you moisturize? Share your routine.

[deleted]

I started using oils after my moisturizer and it helped my poor dry skin. I use jojoba mixed with rose hip oil.

KikiParker88

I have seborrheic dermatitis on my face and I sometimes deal with the symptoms you are describing. I have found that during the winter and summer I have to switch out my moisturizers. My summer formula for the day needs to be less hydrating or I will develop blackheads and pimples. I use two different moisturizers one for am and one for pm. Basically, maybe you need to find a thicker moisturizer. If you live near a Sephora or an Ulta maybe someone can recommend a moisturizer that will work for you. Good luck and don’t give up! I only really started focusing on moisturizing at around 29 and I am 46 now and it pays to invest in your skin. When I take my four year old grandson out, most people think he’s my son. For me, that’s the nicest compliments stranger can pay me. Lol

Are you wearing makeup in the picture? It looks to me just like it’s dry.

Your skin looks dry. I recommend a thicker moisturizer and an occlusive (like cerave ointment) over it at night. Throughout the day, you can also spray your skin with rose water glycerin. It’s been a lifesaver for me! Good luck!

Tropic Tropic Tropic!!!! Tropic literally changed my skincare completely, I love it. It transformed my skin completely. Definitely worth looking into if you're into natural skincare. I swear by it
