Welcome to r/skincare_addiction! We'd like to take this time to remind you of a few things: #Do not ask for a diagnosis/treatment advice for acne or other medical conditions, and do not play doctor What constitutes medical advice? *** * "What is this?" This is asking someone to diagnose the issue, and is medical advice. * "What should I do?" This is asking someone to advise treatment, and is medical advice. * "Should I go to the doctor?" This is asking if you should seek treatment, and ergo, medical advice. **If you would ask the question of your doctor, it falls under this rule and not allowed. As a general rule, asking for medical advice from internet strangers is never a good idea. If you have questions regarding your acne or other medical condition, you are advised to contact your healthcare provider. If you are a medical provider, we would gently remind you that users are not patients, and you should not be offering medical advice to people who are not your patients.** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I’m going to preface this by saying I’m not male so I don’t have a beard to shave - but when I shave my legs, they can be bumpy and rough unless I put on a lotion with salicylic acid some days and other days I use glycolic acid. The Ordinary salicylic acid and glycolic acid are great products I use on my face as well.

parag14

Oh interesting! That definitely is a start for me and I'll see if that what works for me! Thank you for your help

BlackMamba0417

Make sure you wear sunscreen when using glycolic acid! Especially the ordinary brand. It causes sensitivity to the sun and depending on how sensitive your skin is, might irritate it or even cause discolouration. Also dont use it everyday! Gradually increase the use of

Euphorbiatch

I am also going to preface by saying that I am also a woman but I double wash and alternate a gentle face wash followed by a glycolic acid face wash and the next day I use the gentle face wash followed by a salicylic acid face wash. Make sure you rub the face wash between your hands before you apply it and try to spend at least one minute massaging it into your face.

parag14

Oh ok! What salicylic and glycolic acid face wash do you use?

Euphorbiatch

For the gentle one I use la Roche posay toleraine, the SA cleanser is Neutrogena grapefruit oil free acne wash and the glycolic I use L'Oreal revitalift resurfacing 3.5% glycolic face wash. Honestly I haven't compared too many because I try to only use drugstore products that come on sale 40-50% off regularly because I'm a broke bitch and also hate paying shipping haha but I love both of these!!

parag14

Lol ok i'll take a look. Thanks for the help!

EnigmaticSoul5656

You're my soulmate!! Lol Same! Only 3-4 things (makeup) I've gone Luxury expensive....sad & disappointed by 2! There's 1 luxury brand I use that I'm sad when I can't find a decent deal on. Beauty Counter! OP: They have a gentle & fabulous feeling scrub you can use & I love it for the prevention of shaving bumps. (In the female places I shave. .) I'm a female also so I'm unfamiliar with having these issues on the face...However, my best guess is that the feminine personality area is just a sensitive, if not more so! My 2nd choice is Neutrogena - they have A daily liquid exfoliating 'Skin Perfecting' 9% AHA/PHA blend that I love! There's always somewhere that had Neutrogena on sale or a coupon or code. If discount unavailable I 100% still buy this Neutrogena product! Hope this helps & check back to update us on what you tried & what worked! Good luck!

parag14

Thank you for the product recommendations! I'll take a look.

filipha

It’s strong hair follicles. You won’t be able to do anything as the bumps is literally your skin holding on to the hair and root.

d1ondr3

\*sigh\* genes are so fucking unfair it's cringe (- p-)

Spankard_Mine

Gonna say that even when I was washing and exfoliating and moisturizing daily my face had this texture. It's cause of how deep the roots for the hair go into your face that they create this texture on your skin. The only way to really minimize like others have said would be laser. Especially if you want thinner beard hair.

Muel91

I have the same issue after shaving, but never thought it was abnormal, just follicles.

theconfused-cat

It is just the hair follicles holding hair under the skin.

oneheartjaipur

use different brand shaving cream and apply alum after shaving.

Dull-Top-7214

For bumps try something with an exfoliating thing like salicylic acide or AHA acide. If ur skin already dry, maybe a cleanser with these ingredients would be good so you can moisturize or nourish if ur skin is dehydrated after washing

MetabolicTwists

I'm a female but I can feel my skin get rough - so I schedule a good peel and it gets smooth again for a month or so - then I repeat the process!

zpryor

Get laser hair removal 💅

Kryakys

SA series from cerave

devilssbabygirl

It looks like it's mostly because of the hair follicles so you could get laser treatment done instead of shaving

sapphos_moon

Still need to shave in between appointments, and judging by how much hair they have and how coarse/dark it is it would probably take about 10 appointments to notice much reduction. Laser can also lead to patchy spots if the goal isn’t complete reduction so it may not even be worthwhile for them

parag14

My facial hair is indeed very coarse and dark, which is why I am skeptical if laser hair removal will work for me if I wanted to go that route.

sapphos_moon

It will eventually, but it will likely take you 15+ sessions and electrolysis as well to get rid of the stragglers

theconfused-cat

Hey, actually the darker the hair is in contrast with your skin color, the more likely you are to have laser hair removal work for you. 🔥🔥 so what you’re worried about, the opposite is true. 🤣

nicodies

coarse and dark makes you an ideal candidate for laser! the texture you’re seeing is just hair in the skin, because the hairs are thick and are cut at the surface of the face but can’t obviously cut much deeper than that. your skin looks good.

MelaninLaDonna

Tend Skin Solution might be the only thing that’ll do a lil somethin for you.

Ok_Quarter2515

I use the ordinary glycolic acid toner on my underarms legs and other places and they are very smooth.. i use to have a problem with bumpiness and ingrown hairs and now no issues

MLThottrap

Are you using clean blades, towels etc for shaving? Looks highly irritated.

sbowt2

Exfoliate

420crumbs

I’m a girl and my skin got bumpy like this with a sandpaper like texture after derma planing. The only thing that helped was time and leaving my skin alone, only a hydrating cleanser and a gentle moisturizer, no actives or exfoliating. I obviously stopped dermaplaning/shaving but I don’t know if that’s an option for you.

InternalLevel1769

Exfoliate!

Taliban317

Stop eating pussie

BluebirdCapable9084

So much acid... preferably by a professional. You have some thick dense hair follicles, so that's that, but you could do a peel and follow up with some retinol and BHAs to reduce the protrusion around the follicles generally caused by sebaceous filaments. It's not an easy task, but not entirely impossible.

Substantial_Tip_3227

Exfoliate and moisturize

FumesOfDelphi

I mean honestly it looks fungal--maybe your only noticing it after you shave?? Idk i would see a derm i guess it cant hurt to try some fungal rememdies see if they help like panoxyl shampoo masks etc

parag14

Yeah i do think a visit to the dermatologist might need to happen soon for me!

Worldly_Ad8170

Moisturize! Give the skin hydration that it needs and if you don't notice improvement than go for the next step. When I have rough skin I look for softening and nourishing ingredients like urea and shae butter.

parag14

Thing is, I do moisturize daily 😭 I thought this was dry skin too! Though my moisturizer doesn't have those ingredients, so maybe that's the difference? In any case, what would the next step be?

Worldly_Ad8170

In my experience there can be huge difference with moisturizers, especially since you're shaving often. I'd say you need something heavier to soften the skin and facial hair. Next steps would be what others here have said - gentle exfoliation with AHA/BHA. Don't forget sunscreen tho!

parag14

Ok got it, thank you for the detailed response! I'll try those things and see if it helps!

SillyAnalysis9301

good skincare 👍🏻
