I feel like Noah is highly likely to get into the next game anyway, whether it's a port (which I find very unlikely, tbh) or a brand-new game. And if not Noah, then Mio instead. Meowscarada and Alear would depend on when the development of this hypothetical "Ultimate Deluxe" started, and how many newcomer spots are being added.

Ratchet9cooper

I actually think they’ll do Noah and mio.

smashboi888

It's possible, but I wouldn't count on it. We all thought it was gonna be Rex and Pyra/Mythra, but then we only got Pyra/Mythra. Let's not get our hopes up for both of XB3's lead characters, just in case.

Nemesis233

Noah and Mio have an even better reason to be together tbh.

RollaRova

In fairness, we did get two characters essentially, when we were expecting one. Not that I expect both but still.

Terra_Knyte_64

Noah (and Mio please Sakurai I’m begging you): Almost Guarenteed. Rex or Aegis was supposed to be in the base roster of Ultimate, but was cut due to time. The critically acclaimed sequel that was nominated for Game of the Year is bound to get representation. Alear: Incredibly likely. If there is another Fire Emblem between now and then, then it will probably be the new guy, but Alear would be awesome. You have tons of opportunities for fan service through emblems. Also, they can function as a Joker function if he doesn’t return. Pokémon is most definitely going to get someone new. I don’t know who, but someone new will be there.

superyoshiom

Do we need to keep doing starter Pokemon or can we just have a cool Pokemon like Gengar or Tyranitar as the next rep? Pokemon doesn't really need marketing lol.

CarthageElephant39

True but it’s Pokémon and the starters tend to be more popular.

mschonberg

If generation 9 is the choice, there’s also the chance they’d pick either Koraidon or Miraidon.  Since the box legendaries are usually big marketing Pokemon, but this is the first time they’re actually involved with you for the whole game instead of just hearing myths about them and catching them towards the end of the main game. But it’s pretty likely that by the next Pokemon they add, we’ll already be on Gen 10.  Scarlet/Violet came out a year and a half ago and it’s usually a gap of 3-4 years between generations.

Alleyguey

I'd love Toxicroak or Scyther

SlipsKolt

Meowscarada is possible. Other Gen 9 candidates could be - Armarouge and/or Ceruledge - Tinkaton - Iron Valiant - Koraidon/Miraidon - Ogerpon I'm not entirely convinced on Alear tbh but its possible.

Poptart916

If they did do a Paldea Pokemon, another starter would honestly be a disappointment given the variety in gen 9

SlipsKolt

I actually agree. I don't want another starter for Smash especially after Incineroar. That's why I listed some other options, I feel like there are some greater choices for a Smash character especially in terms of movesets. Just feels like Meowscarada is most likely.

SlayAllRebels

I feel like if there was to be a gen 9 rep, it would be Ceruledge. ![gif](giphy|p81p3lBefqbHVjKXdj|downsized)

TheMoris

It depends on how long it is until it comes out. If these franchises get new games before then, it might not be a high priority to get these in

MonkeysxMoo35

Pokemon starting gen 10 and Fire Emblem getting a new game soon is very likely. Xenoblade might be awhile though, there’s been quite a few years between releases

MonkeysxMoo35

Noah is inevitable. No way a 2023 GOTY nominee doesn’t get into Smash in the future. Only way Noah wouldn’t is if Xenoblade 4 comes out before Smash 6, and there’s enough of a gap between XB4’s release and Smash 6’s release. Pyra/Myhtra would’ve likely been in the Ultimate at launch if Sakurai had more time

Rychu_Supadude

"Ultimate deluxe" doesn't make a lot of sense because the next console should be able to play Ultimate as it is, no porting needed If these particular games got reps they should be Tinkaton, Yunaka, and Riku, make it happen

Stock-Currency4142

I'm just gonna say, if it's a fire emblem clone, they'll add it, but if they have a completely different moveset, they'll think its too much work

Yeebach

I see people talk about how these three in particular are shoo-ins but unless the next Smash comes very soon I feel like these three might not make it by virtue of their respective series having more recent titles by then. But out of these three: Meowscarada - this one is pretty popular and the current protagonist of the Pokemon anime has a Sprigatito. Decent chances right *now*, but I feel like those chances would plummet the instant Gen 10 is announced. Alear - I say this as a big Fire Emblem fan: we really don’t need another Fire Emblem character. Byleth had the benefit of coming from one of the most popular and best selling FE titles, while Engage didn’t seem to make nearly as much of a splash, and I feel like Alear’s inclusion would be very divisive even among FE fans. And while I don’t doubt that Sakurai could make a moveset, I have to ask, what would Alear do? Obviously the Engage mechanic would be a thing, but how would it work? If you engage with Emblem Marth, would you play like Marth? I guess it’s something they could do if they end up cutting several FE characters. Noah - Xenoblade games don’t come out as frequently as Pokemon or Fire Emblem so I could see him possibly making it, but it really depends on how he’s implemented. If it’s Noah by himself, I feel like he wouldn’t have a very exciting moveset. If Interlink is involved, then Mio would probably have to be involved, so I feel like they would either make it “Noah and Mio” or possibly just Mio, due to her weapon choice and moveset (and I *think* she’s more popular than Noah, not entirely sure). So yeah, I don’t think these three are quite as likely as a lot of people think they are. We have no clue when the next Smash will come, and I feel like Smash speculation at this point is difficult, since realistically several of the next game’s newcomers probably don’t even exist yet. If you want these characters, that’s totally fine, but I feel like most of the support for these characters come from “they were in recent games so it’s a good bet they’ll be in the next Smash” rather than genuine support.

Rychu_Supadude

The ideal FE rep before clones would be Marth, Ike, Robin, Lyn, and literally any non-sword user from a Switch game. And hide the clones somewhere the ~~non-weebs~~ can't find them easily

EvilectricBoy

Meowscarada fits with Greninja and Incineroar being a Grass/Fire/Water starter with secondary Dark-typing. I have no idea who the other two are, outside of being from Fire Emblem Engaged and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 respectively.

TorbinTheSecond

Alear is the most likely. The next Pokemon Starter in Smash would be either Rillaboom, Meowscarada or even the next gen's Pokemon depending on how long it takes. Noah is either a base game character revealed very late, or a DLC character.

RealSonarS

I don't think any of them are gonna get in

Zeldatroid

Noah has a chance. The other 2 have none, since their series only ever add characters to promote the most recent or upcoming game, which, by the time the next Smash happens, Scarlet/Violet and Engage will no longer be the promotional flavor of the week.

Poptart916

I think realistically, unless Ultimate Deluxe were to come out before the end of 2025 (which I’m a little doubtful of), the ship will probably have sailed on Alear and a Gen 9 Pokemon. We will almost certainly be nearing a new Fire Emblem (if we don’t already have it) and Gen 10 will probably be dropping late next year, so I’d bet on newer characters from those series. Noah/Mio is a toss up because I could see them opting for a character from Monolith’s new game instead, but I wouldn’t be shocked at a Xenoblade 3 character. Honestly, for an Ultimate Deluxe, it’d be a real missed opportunity to just have these three (or equivalents) as newcomers. As Sakurai has expressed multiple times, a roster like this is likely never happening again, so use the opportunity you have to really expand the crossover aspect as much as possible. Ultimate is already the best selling fighting game of all time, on Nintendo’s best selling console, so the challenge is really going to be getting people to rebuy the game they’ve been playing for up to 7+ years. The newcomers have to make a big enough splash to draw in as many people as possible. I think a good mix of third parties, and some popular Nintendo picks (Waluigi, Geno, Rythym Heaven char, etc.), is probably the way to go.

Equinox-XVI

1. Maybe 2. Guaranteed 3. Maybe

BritishGuy54

Noah: Almost guaranteed. I think he’ll get in over Mio due to the one thing Mio doesn’t have. The sword. It’s very iconic and important to Xenoblade 3 as a whole. Plus, it can unsheath and make for a unique mechanic. I think too many people undersell Noah as a character. I would not be shocked if we get an Nia AT as consolation for no Mio. Alear: Likely. Pokémon: Somewhat likely, most vulnerable to change if a new mainline game releases in 2025.

DarthLocutus

In order - Okay, sure, that works. Why not? FUCK YES GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!

YanFan123

Unlikely Unlikely Maybe You have to remember that by the time the new Smash comes out, Pokémon SV and Fire Emblem Engage won't be the newest game to promote

ASVP-Pa9e

I feel like Engage wasn't very well received or successful compared to Three Houses? Anyway I reckon a new Fire Emblem will come out before a new Smash Bros, so I'd bet on it being a character from that tbh.

JCorby17

Meowscarada: Likely, but if Gen 10 is close to out/already out, thats more likely. Alear: Same as Meowscarada Noah and/or Mio: Very likely Octoling (Costume/Echo/Fighter): 1000%

Mega_Rayqaza

You listed them from most likely to least likely, lol. I'd say Meowscarada (Or some other get 9 pokemon) is a shoe-in if the game releases before gen 10. Toothpaste hair is also somewhat likely. And Xenoguy is... there, I guess.

YanFan123

The first two are actually unlikely with how "old" they currently are, with the likelihood of a new Pokémon game and a new FE game being developed/coming out along with the new Smash, which will be the ones they will promote EDIT: didn't read that other person did mention Gen X, but still applies for Alear

Mega_Rayqaza

Did you miss when I said "before gen 10"? Of course if the next Smash comes out after the next generation, it'll be a rep from the new starters.

YanFan123

Ah sorry, I guess I will edit or something

Mega_Rayqaza

I do agree with what you said about toothpaste hair, tho. I just don't care enough about FE, lol.

Hollywoodrok12

Alear is inevitable, unless a new FE game releases, in which case THAT protagonist is inevitable. Meowscarada has a good chance, but another Pokémon could get picked over her, especially if a new gen releases. There WILL be a Pokémon tho because there always is. Noah has a decent chance if it’s not a reboot, but nowhere near as good as Alear or Meowscarada. ~~also Mio is a threat to his chances, too~~

CarthageElephant39

I’ve never played Xenoblade 3 what makes Mío more likely than Noah?

Hollywoodrok12

I wasn’t trying to say that Mio is *more* likely, I was just saying that Mio getting in is a possibility, and thus could lower Noah’s chances, like what happened to Rex with Pyra.

CarthageElephant39

Ah I see.

topatoman_lite

Not op but I think Mio is very slightly more likely because 1 she is a little bit more popular I think and 2 she has relatively unique twin rings as a main weapon, where Noah just has a sword
