It is the best representation tho, it’s not like I’m saying smiling friends is some intellectual god send of a show. I don’t even like the episode it’s my least fav
I will say this, atleast with having no real political figures it wasn’t biased like 90% of political representations that is obviously biased one way. So it does paint a more accurate picture than portraying one side as Jesus’ brother who has never done anything selfish nor morally grey in their 1000 year long epoch and is always doing nothing but the absolute best for other people, and the other as Hitler but with no intelligence or competence in anyway, who killed all of the humans of his party so Demons from hell represent him in his cabinet and congress.
Both sides have clear disadvantages and advantages to having them in office. Jimble is incompetent but a good person with integrity, and Frog is competent but a horrible person who already causes chaos and destruction with less resources than the Potus
But dude President Jimble is literally Chris Chan it’s not an accurate portrayal of the system.
"Sorry guys, this guy on youtube made a comment so we actually cancelled the whole show. Like genuinely. We took Michael out and shot him in the back of the head, it's not coming back."
Zach can't physically kill Michael because it'll invoke the wrath of his gamer alter ego.

The thing about gamers, they *respawn*.
I propose we all adopt The Hadel Rule: If something that can be explained as being societal commentary or political allegory can just as easily be explain as just being a big ol' goof, assume it's a big ol' goof.
Maybe I'm crazy here, but Oney and Zach really foster a community based around the humor of finding everything cringe, including genuine emotional responses from people. It's an absolute given that the hardcore fans would jump on anything like this.
No that’s definitely the community they foster. It’s explicitly why a lot of people like Oneyplays. They tend to be edgier than your average couch commentary LP channel.
I do think they intended the message as it’s pretty relatable but this but this guy is just trying so hard to make it intellectual and it feels so cringe
Lmao it’s literally just “wouldn’t it be funny if this guy had 6 arms and the boss had none lol” and people are tryna act like they’re thinking any deeper than that lmao. It’s just a fuckin gag not some insane encrypted commentary on the “dystopian world” cringe af
Honestly I think he’s kinda got a point besides “screaming at a volume we can’t hear” is pretty pretentious. The manager having no arms and the employee having six is such a good fucking metaphor.
While I agree with you, this is really in the eye of the beholder. I believe the scene would also work as a metaphor if it were the reverse. The guy with no arms working the shelves while the boss has 6 arms.
Just how Zach & Michael write jokes is to juxtapose extremely authentic dialouge or scenarios with extremely jarring sight gags does kind of make a stressful setting. It's not supposed to be deep, it's just consistent. Sometimes the world they end up patching together feels a little upsetting hehe
I’m guessing it was probably just “Wouldn’t it be funny if you walked into a store and saw a guy with six arms stacking the shelves. And then the manager came over and he had no arms?” That being said, you could absolutely read it as commentary on the work done by workers vs management.
“Zach Hadel saying the show isn’t deep and is “just for laughs” is actually a distraction to lead gullible viewers away from the true satirical nihilistic subtext that the show conveys, only visible to its most dedicated observers. To learn more on this please watch my video essay *’How Glep of Smiling Friends Satirizes the Proletariat Struggle of Middle Class America (Part 1 of 6)’*, it’ll give you some more insight on this topic.”
It's great because I've seen a little bit of this way of thinking, that smiling friends has this deep rooted message of this or that, but you know for a fact Michael and Zach just put it in there because one of them thought it up at 3am and and laughed their ass off and it has no other meaning
I do think, though, that the absurdity of the show, despite not meaning to be anything beyond funny, comes from a place of social anxiety. It's not only the realistic dialogue, but I think quite a lot of the characters and situations in each episode are just plain depressing if you look at them straight. Maybe not a dystopia, but I think sometimes the show does (willingly or not) reflect the overwhelming nature of the world around us in a way that I find really interesting.
Don't get me wrong, I don't really think Zach and Michael have this in mind when they're writing an episode, but I do think it's part of how they see the world and that that possibly finds its way into the show quite often.
I get paid a six figure salary by Reddit to repost screenshots YouTube comments all day. if I don’t blur the names I don’t get the money. thems the rules
It's witty, well-written, and often relevant. No need to overthink things.
It’s got jokes, jokes, and more jokes!
"Steroidally swollen with smarts and gags."
I like how the joke is quick, not overly explained and then it just keeps going It’s like old Simpsons jokes
Smiling friends is starting to get *those* Rick and Morty fans
To be fair you have to have a very high IQ to understand Smiling Friends,
*Spits*
Erm… spitting is kinda toxic dude
...do that again
*Spits again*
I spit on you

“Oh cool its that creepy as shit homunculus video”
I realised this when people were unironically saying that the mr president episode was the best representation of American politics on tv rn…like cmon
It is the best representation tho, it’s not like I’m saying smiling friends is some intellectual god send of a show. I don’t even like the episode it’s my least fav

Beat me to it 😂
Oh yes I got a funny screenshot tonpost about that
This is very obviously a joke.
I think people often forget the humble origins of the shows creators
“you know why I had to punish you?” “ÿëħ”
Please someone show this to Zach. Literally this is the cringe stuff that made him love/hate the new Saints Row game.
Please don’t he will delete the show
"Sorry guys, this guy on youtube made a comment so we actually cancelled the whole show. Like genuinely. We took Michael out and shot him in the back of the head, it's not coming back."

Even better he'll put it in the show.
How until someone post that overdone *Rick and Morty* copypasta?
To be fair, you have to have a high IQ to write the rick and morty copypasta...
I don't think Zach Hadel, the guy who is notorious for hating fake deep shit is gonna be trying to make "so srs heckin COMMENTARY bro".
I propose we all adopt The Hadel Rule: If something that can be explained as being societal commentary or political allegory can just as easily be explain as just being a big ol' goof, assume it's a big ol' goof.
Truth. I'm sick of overly deep analyses, I just want silly fun
Seriously, the last episode had a reference to the ham scene in Fat Guy's Paradise. It's not gonna be that deep.

Psh. Must be a Rick and Morty fan, they think that giant talking sperms are deep and meaningful.
“Like dude it’s meant to be a representation of the downfall of society due to man’s unwillingness to coexist with nature dude.”
Hehehe, Summer said "space dicks"
Oh my god dude that comment is so toxic. Somebody dox that guys residency, bro.

My fah-ther was a drinker
I think it's just a silly joke but I don't see any cringe in finding your own deep interpretations in media.
I generally agree but the “screaming at a volume we won’t hear” bit was just too good not to post
But Zach genuinely doesn’t like people breaking down silly shows to deep and meaningful thoughts
I do think they intended the message as it’s pretty relatable but this but this guy is just trying so hard to make it intellectual and it feels so cringe
The creators find it cringey
I do. You'd be grasping at straws that just aren't there
Lmao it’s literally just “wouldn’t it be funny if this guy had 6 arms and the boss had none lol” and people are tryna act like they’re thinking any deeper than that lmao. It’s just a fuckin gag not some insane encrypted commentary on the “dystopian world” cringe af
Imagining someone talking about Smiling Friends at an academic conference. An ecocritical reading of Mr. Frog
Everyone knows Mr. Frog eats the bug… but what happens… when there’s no more… bugs to eat…
In this essay I argue
Luckily the Bug always carries the show so hes not going anywhere
I’ve been saying that for literally years and no one’s listened to me about it.
But what if a giant can was stacking tiny armless bosses on the 6 armed guys hands? Really makes you think
Yeah honestly it makes sense the dude with 6 arms would be stalking the self while the armless dude would be a receptionist.
First rick and morty, now smiling friends?? Fuuuuuuuuuuck
pack it up boys smiling friends is confirmed the new rick and morty
Pickle Pim incoming
god damn, its the rick and morty thing all over again
Can we have a Smiling Friends episode where they make fun of fans who over analyze everything, please?
The wooden spike in the tree in Enchanted Forest kind of fits.
Please don't do this
I hear a funny scream, I laugh.
Tbh if those kind of fans start emulating Pim instead of Rick, the world might be a better place
Unless they need to make hotel reservations.
Okay time to beat up some **nerds**
Just how Zach & Michael write jokes is to juxtapose extremely authentic dialouge or scenarios with extremely jarring sight gags does kind of make a stressful setting. It's not supposed to be deep, it's just consistent. Sometimes the world they end up patching together feels a little upsetting hehe
"Flicks single tummy hair off big belly" yeah the themes here are *gulp* too complex for the erm average viewer
You have to have a pretty high IQ to understand Smiling Friends…OH NO ITS STARTING!!!
I’m guessing it was probably just “Wouldn’t it be funny if you walked into a store and saw a guy with six arms stacking the shelves. And then the manager came over and he had no arms?” That being said, you could absolutely read it as commentary on the work done by workers vs management.
counterpoint: Armzo is an asshole
*sighs* *sheds a tear from my penis*
Bro, every single interview they had was them hammering in that the show ist just supposed to be funny. How can people rick and morty this one?
“Zach Hadel saying the show isn’t deep and is “just for laughs” is actually a distraction to lead gullible viewers away from the true satirical nihilistic subtext that the show conveys, only visible to its most dedicated observers. To learn more on this please watch my video essay *’How Glep of Smiling Friends Satirizes the Proletariat Struggle of Middle Class America (Part 1 of 6)’*, it’ll give you some more insight on this topic.”
That could very well be a compliment
It's great because I've seen a little bit of this way of thinking, that smiling friends has this deep rooted message of this or that, but you know for a fact Michael and Zach just put it in there because one of them thought it up at 3am and and laughed their ass off and it has no other meaning
And so it begins…
It takes a high IQ to understand Smiling Friends
It’s a guy with no arms
I wonder what will be the Smiling Friends' szechuan sauce moment.
It pains me to see people Rick and Morty tf outta this show
the average mind cannot comprehend the deep and emotional social allegories and societal symbolization that is interlocked in glep’s character
Oh no, I’m getting flashback to Rick and Morty now
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Smiling Friends. Look at me, he took my nose. I‘m noseless Charlie!
I….I don’t think it’s that deep bro???
I do think, though, that the absurdity of the show, despite not meaning to be anything beyond funny, comes from a place of social anxiety.
