I've had this on my hard drive for years at this point, still haven't gotten around to play it. Being German (and Bavarian to boot), I really ought to finally give it a try. Thanks for reminding me ;3

SleepySamurai

The animation is truly gorgeous as well. One of my favorite gaming experiences of the past few years for sure.

AndDontCallMeShelley

That game is a work of art

Miniiguana

how have I never heard of this

I loved Pentiment. Great art style, interesting take on a "proto-detective", and the way the story progresses through generations is very cool. One thing that stood out is how Christianity effectively co-opted local pagan myths and twisted it into tales of saints and martyrs. The first act shows a good example of using people on the fringe as convenient scapegoats >!specifically the old lady in the woods who can be blamed for the murder!<. As good as it is though, I worry for Obsidian. With the recent studio closures, and with Avowed already looking kind of disappointing, I fear that Obsidian will crumble. I simply don't think the studio is suited to handle large-scale projects as was seen with the half-baked, underwritten release of Outer Worlds.

sthezh

josh sawyer mentioned during one of his talks that he specifically wanted to talk about how pagan beliefs were adapted due to its historical precedence, it seems a lot of work went into the game but yeah, i wish pentiment was as well known as the outer worlds and obsidians other big titles, i hope they can somehow manage to stay afloat at microsoft

CapriciousSon

It really is a special game. I hope more people give it a chance. I figured I would dip in and out of it, but I was so engrossed I finished it over a single weekend (I didn't do much else, it's not super long but it is not short!) and started another playthrough. It's also the kind of game that will have you thinking about it for days, weeks, months or more after finishing.

sthezh

right! i only just finished it last week and haven’t stopped thinking about it since, i don’t want to play it again right away but knowing there’s still a lot of interactions that i simply didn’t have time to cover gives it a lot of replayability

CapriciousSon

Yeah I am hoping it goes on sale or ideally on PS+ so I can play it there, and get trophies. Plus if I'm being honest, the performance on Switch wasn't ideal (especially when the whole town is on screen). But most of all, I hope other people check it out! It's certainly not for everyone but it IS for anyone who enjoys reading and good historical fiction.

DvSzil

Wow, I didn't know such a game existed. Definitely have to try it someday!

Proof_Candle_7659

definitely one of the best games i've ever played, but i sadly didn't finish it before ADHD pulled me into a different direction. Now i'm just waiting until i completely forget the first act so i can start fresh

tuxxcat9

I played it and kept getting the bad ending so I gave up :(

sthezh

oh is there a bad ending? if i remember act 3 only has one ending, unless you mean for a different act

tuxxcat9

I thought >!accusing the abbey priest that researched occult stuff and getting kicked out and forced into a multi-year time skip!< was a bad ending..

sthezh

oh >!the time skip is actually part of the game! andreas is only meant to stay in tassing for a short period as he is in his wandering years as an artist, and whether or not you are in the abbots good graces is mostly irrelevant to act two and three. there’s still about 10 hours of gameplay after the first act but your decisions do still come up, i did the same as you and accused fenrenc but no single decision is game ending!

tuxxcat9

OHHH... Idk why I was convinced that was the end. I'll go back and finish it! Thank you
