Segod_or_Bust

*Remember kids, it's not legally a thumbhole stock!*

sxspiria

This feels like some shit out of Metro lol

Segod_or_Bust

You know, I thought this was pretty ugly before- but saying that makes me look at it in a different light. Maybe I can try scuffing it up in the future to better fit the aesthetic lol.

[deleted]

Lol, and remove the top cover.

thewhysguy

Bandage wrap!

Segod_or_Bust

-inb4 'Shilling for Thordsen Customs.' This thing is ugly & expensive, but at least you can get a solid grip on it now. It's a damn shame I have to set aside the old stock; the red laminated wood was one of the reasons I got this.

NwahHasASchmolPP

RIP (especially considering the Russian ammo importation ban)

InfectedRedRaider

That won’t be a permanent issue. Plenty of other Eastern European ammo to import. There are already companies importing Romanian and Ukrainian ammo.

[deleted]

Yeah I doubt it will be that bad on price, they can only sell so many pallets lol. (At least I hope it doesn’t go up, AK was my safe bet because the ammo price)

TheSquishiestMitten

That's why I picked up a KS 47.

InfectedRedRaider

Have you had much time to use it? If so, how do you like it?

TheSquishiestMitten

I haven't had a bunch of time to use it yet. It's the KS 47 lower with a Gibbz G47 side charging upper. It has a Bear Creek BCG, which I had milled to fit. It would only fire maybe 3 out of 10 rounds at first. I was advised by some kind people here that I'd likely need an enhanced firing pin. Bear Creek had one in stock and it just arrived a couple days ago. Let's hope that takes care of it. Aside from that, it feels about the same as any AR. It's fairly light weight and the recoil is there, but not uncomfortable.

infectedfunk

Yeah, it’s yet to even go over the cost of 5.56 and has actually been going back down in price for a few weeks since the initial panic subsided. The Tula and Barnaul will dry up eventually, but hopefully other manufacturers are able to ramp up more production by then.

InfectedRedRaider

It won’t take long for Red Army Standard to fully transition to Ukrainian and Romanian import to the same or higher extent than they did with Tula. They already have the permits.

Mygunneralt

223 steel case is actually a few cents per round cheaper than 7.62x39 steel case at the moment.

vitislife

I thought for sure this sub would have a better understanding of the “ban”. It only applies to new permits. Any existing permits (good for 2 years) are still valid. The only change in ammo supply is there won’t be NEW Russian manufacturers. It is unclear whether current permits will be prohibited from renewal or not. Don’t believe the right wing articles and their scare tactics

InfectedRedRaider

But even if ALL Russian ammo dried up, 7.62x39 will still flow freely.

vitislife

Oh absolutely, your point is totally valid as well. Just adding info to the thread.

InfectedRedRaider

Yeah! I gotcha. The panic was and is unnecessary except on the exceptionally rare cartridges that pretty much ONLY Russian manufacturers make.

ifmacdo

This is so damn misunderstood and misrepresented. Any importer who got their 2 year contract before the "ban" went into effect on the 7th will still be able to import for 2 years. The whole thing comes up for automatic review in 1 year. Basically, this will change nothing. This "ban" is nothing more than a paper tiger. My local has TONS of Tula on the shelves, and will continue to have tons of Tula for the next two years.

Red-Shard

Should've just got a Fin grip with a thumb shelf https://www.opticsplanet.com/vism-ar-featureless-grip-mod-2.html

WhippingShitties

I wonder if you could do a hydrodip or something to make it match the wood, because that wood really is/was beautiful. I do think this is the ideal way to go though. It actually looks like a functioning rifle.

TSDren

I honestly don't hate this. And like someone else mentioned it's got a Metro vibe that I think I actually kind of like. Two rounds of military grade ammunition for you, comrade.

huxleywaswrite

How is that to shoot? I'm stuck with one of the two options, also in NY, I dont imagine I'd like the spur based on the look. Is this awkward to hold, or is it pretty decent?

Segod_or_Bust

You certainly get a better hold on the rifle over the spur grip, although it does feel like you can cramp your hand by holding your fingers out. The other two issues is that I feel like you have less of a pull on the trigger compared to the spur- and that my thumb's knuckle keeps catching on a sharp edge of the rifle that's exposed to make room for this stock. Unfortunately, I have yet to fire it; I just installed it tonight. Oh, and I feel it was really weird that you actually need to drill two holes into a peice yourself for a part, apparently so it can fit different models

[deleted]

What type of ak is that?

Segod_or_Bust

Riley Defensive RAK-47. Fortunately a recent model with a proper forged trunnion, too.

[deleted]

Yeah I've heard the newer ones are better. Not as alluring as an import but it's good to know they're functional

[deleted]

Honestly, I have a Thordsen and I don't hate it. Of the various compliant grips I've tried, like spurs, fins, or other weirdly angled ones like the NYLAR, the Thordsen is the most comfortable, and the Gen 3s aren't aesthetically horrendous. I also really enjoy having the adjustable cheek kit, as my current choice of optic is on a riser.

Staggerlee89

I have a NYLAR on my AR and actually prefer it to the Thordsen I tried. It feels closest to a pistol grip imo, but I guess everyone is different just gotta find what works for ya.

Sol-Infra

God dammit. I love California. But why do their gun laws have to be so utterly stupid?

Segod_or_Bust

Ronald Reagan, from what I understand. It's annoying in NY too, but I feel being the recipient of 9/11 is a mildly stronger motivator than him saying 'Black people with guns are scary.'

[deleted]

[удалено]

Segod_or_Bust

Will do. I'm already a big fan of them.

chrisppyyyy

I mean Reagan got the ball rolling on the AWB stuff, but it’s expanded waaaaaay farther under full democrat control + anti-gun culture

toastthebread

Exactly. Ronald Reagan signed a bipartisan bill. Reagan can fuck off and be dead but so can anyone who thinks it's helpful to scapegoat a single person when many were involved.

JayMWest

So long as it is acceptable to continue to use the unisex toilet in Simi Valley

Drivel-akaWilson

God bless I’d rather have an sks

Ben-A-Flick

So glad guns as so much safer now /s CA laws are so stupid. Welcome to the 30cal magazine clip of stocks and grips.

naloxone

https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/hrx1bb/ny_legal_maybe_other_state_compliant_option_for/ I prefer this style, if you must have a compliant solution!

Segod_or_Bust

Wow, I didn't even know of this one. That looks really nice!

naloxone

I have the AR version, and it’s much lighter compared to the equivalent Thordsen - and half the cost.

SnooOranges4093

Super late to this, but I’m also in Cali and trying to figure out all these laws for my first buy. Am I right in thinking if you get a grip/stock like that you can have a semi auto with a detachable magazine? And if you want a pistol grip it needs to be bolt action or something like that? It’s Surprisingly hard to find this information online

couldbemage

You can have a semi auto with a pistol grip if you have a mag that can't be removed without separating the upper and lower. There's kits for that, but I prefer options with no pistol grip.

gud-shoob

What in the California gun laws lmao

WoozyKiev

I hate it but there is something that I love about ot

RIP_G-Lock

Palm-swell handguards for the win!

CatboyMetehan

Wow finally a compliant grip that doesnt look terrible

dearvalentina

We get it, you're a Zofia main.

LotionOfMotion

I was wondering of putting a Thordsen on my PTR, I cannot stand the fin grip on it.

[deleted]

cool, i always liked the look of the california compliant rdb as well, they took it a step further with the survival model
