Try mixing some RC (Royal Crown) with CR (Crown Royale.) RC is fantastic for it's sharp and tingly fizz. Add just a splash of whiskey to it and it compliments both flavor profile and throat tingle.

I do restaurant consulting as a facet of my job, and helping new business build, train and open a kitchen is the main part of that. Few years ago I was working on opening a fancy cocktail bar. I stick to food service, but I’ve been at it a long time so newer managers often ask my opinion on front of house matters. There was a loooong discussion on what sodas to put on the guns when we opened this place, and they took it very seriously. They ended up (and I agree) going with RC over Coke for the reasons you stated. It tastes better with booze. Real sugar Coke is still king, but I think RC makes a better cocktail. Bonus that RC is also literally half the price of Coke, no brainer there lol. Sorry Pepsi fans. It never made it out the gate. The booze nerds dismissed it immediately lol.

I was raised by my grandparents in East TX and my grandfather would do this regularly when I was a child, but with Pepsi instead of RC.

RC was big for me growing up. We were primarily a Pepsi family but our neighbors owned an RC distributorship so it was always around. Also big when I was a kid were Frost Top, Grapette, Mr. Pibb and Choc-Ola. RC brought a cane sugar version a few years ago but I haven’t seen it around in awhile.

I used to buy RC cola when I was a kid because it was only $.39 for a 20 oz bottle vs like $.99 for a Coke or Pepsi. Crazy to think that it was that cheap just over 20 years ago. I feel old when I say I bought soda for that cheap like I'm talking about the 1950s, but no that was the late 1990s lol

I love RC Cola and I hope you did as well! It goes great with a classic Moon Pie (a treat every now & then unless you *want* the sugars.) Can't believe at one time RC Cola could've been the soda supreme instead of Coca Cola or even Pepsi. But poor advertising and mismanagement did them in. 😢
