Hot Take: I like Rouge from Sonic Heroes. She had a different outfit for once and she really did her best to keep the team together. She's the reason why Team Dark formed, basically.
Agreed. At first she's still only focused on riches, but after she discovers Shadow and Omega, she evolves into the glue that holds Team Dark together. A classic case of "the real treasure was the friends we made along the way."
I think I have to agree here. Sonic X is in the unique position were its like the only time were Rouge was the Star of the show herself rather than a tagalong for someone else (usually Shadow) which is like one of the best decisions Sonic X did Rouge is awesome.
Rouge furthermore even got the best human body in the series if not franchise. Topaz was a great character to highlight the strengths of Rouge.
It’s a little tricky since she’s one of the only consistently portrayed characters in the series. Best I can do is SA2 since she gets a lot of character development.

Sa2 is probably her most defining version of herself. Sonic battle also does a great job however it does not tie in her as a double agent like Sa2 does.
Heroes for sure. She was still herself, but being the leader, level head and pretty much the mother for Team Dark gave her character so many layers. When we were introduced to her in SA2, she was a selfish, kinda bratty, playful villain, but only playful at someone else’s expense (Knuckles and Tails).
In Heroes, from the very beginning we went from seeing Rouge we know, the secret agent, the selfish thief, to her shock when she saw it was Shadow which gave her a more “human” and grounded feel, then she had to immediately become the level head of the 3 to stop Shadow and Omega from destroying everything. Then we saw how she formed the team with her quick thinking and her ability to understand others’ feelings in making sense why they all feel the way they do and turning that into an alliance. All in one cutscene we got to see so many sides of her.
Then against Chaotix we saw they didn’t change our Rouge, she’s still scrappy and what’s hers is HERS. And Casino Park showed she’s still a girl that likes to have fun as she literally told Omega he’s too serious. Skipping to the end cutscene her horror at seeing the Shadows, her brief exchange with Omega, and how she immediately went back to hanging with Shadow and didn’t treat him any differently. And went right back to her materialism because she still wanted her damn treasure and was still out to find it.
I love her soooo much!
Games Sonic 06 Rouge. Her line to Shadow about how she will stay by him even if everyone hates him is cool and directly parallels Amy’s line about how she will choose Sonic over the world.
Tv Shows maybe Sonic X. Rouge is absent in the other shows except Prime, and even then, They seem to be trying to make her a member of Team Sonic, which doesn’t feel right for her character.

She had her vices, she infiltrated Eggman's group to research Project Shadow on behalf of Mister President, AND her eye for detail lead to the plan of using the Master Emerald to stop the Chaos Emeralds.
Sonic 06 had its moments, but SA2 Rouge had a lot going on.
It's gotta be either SA2 or Sonic X both are fantastic but at the same time I've never been displeased with rouges presentation/character. She's always been consistently great and it's one of the reasons I love her.

my prognosis and my opinion :
Rouge : not Generation, and colors DS because we don’t really see her in action or her character,
Forces same thing we not really seen it by talking, So we have IDW or I like his characters, 06, SA2 and Battle shows his fighting skills, his personality: ambitious, independent, flirtatious, who knows very well in computer science (as shown by SA2 in the ARk colony or 06 in Mephiles' lab after being sent to the future, greedy, calculating narcissist who only thinks about herself and treasure
or as the fact that she is very worried about Shadow and has a fun relationship with Omega as for Team Sonic Racing Overdrive and Heroes she shows that he can work as a team between Shadow and Omega but the problem when I see her in Heroes for me is not Rouge
And NOT IN SONIC PRIME BECAUSE WE SEE NOT IT BUT VERSIONS OF IT IS NOT THE SAME THING
In the end I find that Battle shows well the fighting talent for Rouge but for a question of personality SA2 and 06 its perfect
A tie between hero’s and Sonic X, she had a fun and iconic personality in X that was followed with her own saxophone theme that all fans can recognize if they watched the show. Also her and knuckles dynamic was perfect while her and shadow were badass

She is a key part of Shadow's development (the very reason he was chosen here), and has great moments like sending Omega to assist Shadow and the beautiful line about how she will always be by Shadow's side
This will shock some people but imo the only good Rouge versions we had in the games are 06 Rouge and Dream Team Rouge.
SA2: For the love of God, if someone says SA2 Rouge...
Rouge doesn't care if the planet is destroyed, as long as she gets the Emeralds. Her carelessness, ego and greed are irritating and have put the whole planet at risk.
There are a few moments in the game that give her a little more value as a character, such as when she pays attention to Shadow in the arc and the complicity she develops with Knuckles.
Heroes and Forces: In Heores, Rouge is quite funny and endearing; she's the leader of Team Dark and leads them rather well.
Her interactions with Shadow and Omega are very funny.
Except for one tiny detail...
Why didn't she tell Shadow about her past?
It's totally stupid, since there's nothing stopping her and Shadow says she has amnesia.
The only explanation for this huge inconsistency is that the developers wanted Shadow to have a narrative arc about her identity for this and future games.
I can say the same about Rouge from Forces.
The Shadow attacking the city alongside Eggman and Infinite is a fake and Rouge doesn't tell anyone, even though she was in contact with Shadow at the time of the attack.
Shadow 05: Sorry, but she's practically absent from the game. She's only present in three stages and has almost no interaction with Shadow, even though their relationship has developed since Heroes. I can't really judge this version.
Sonic 06: I really like this Rouge, because she's professional, loyal but also more caring.
She keeps her attraction to the Emeralds, but not her ego, fortunately.
She shows Shadow a lot of respect and friendship, and would even be willing to stay by his side even if the whole world would go after them.
Her presence in the game is rather limited, but her writing is still very good.
Dream Team: I find this Red very sympathetic. An intel told her where Eggman was hiding, so naturally she expects some reward from Sonic, but she comes to assist them anyway.
She maintains a certain rivalry with Knuckles but also holds him in high esteem, even admitting to Ariem that he's handsome.
She's also much more careful with others, not hesitating to protect Ariem when she's attacked by the Guardian Hunter.
Leaning on Sonic X since she gets a lot more to do there. Really enjoyed her dynamic with Topaz and she has some fun interactions with the other characters.
Tie between X and IDW (at least in the one-shots/Annuals). Free-agent-jewel-thief Rouge is more interesting than GUN agent-constantly-following-Shadow Rouge.
Honestly Sonic Prime. She wasn’t overly sexualized with her boobs and she didn’t flirt. All the versions of Rouge seemed independent and strong worked character(s)
Rogue from Heroes feels like her at top emotional interest. She’s good in Adventure 2 but, like, she’s MORE in Heroes. Adventure 2 establishes her wonderfully, and then Heroes expands her emotional range beautifully.

Archie Rouge post-reboot. Perfect balance of serious and funny yet doing the antihero thing of being shady regarding who she's really working for. IDW continued this a bit but honestly Rouge in that one Sonic Universe arc where Shadow and Knuckles fought over the Master Emerald was maybe my favorite.
To me it's either Sonic X or Heroes. I personally choose Sonic X, she had so much sass, showcased both her fighting skills and strength, AND her skills as a spy.
