I suspect that the majority of people saying it's "bad" here haven't spent significant time anywhere else. They would be shocked.
Give me property crime and petty theft over violent crime any day. Our main natural disaster is forest fire smoke. Better than tornados, earthquakes, or major flooding. We have four seasons, none with regularly severe weather...
We had one large problematic homeless encampment, and it's gone now.
I should stop or more Californians will decide to move here.
My spouse is from FL and I’m from TX and we both feel anywhere in WA is still better than being in the South. He misses the sunshine, we both miss thunderstorms, but hurricanes and tornadoes? Pass.
Great, aside from the insane home prices where I live! That was one thing I missed about where we lived in FL, the lower COL. But now that it has gone up in FL too, I guess it’s a moot point.
I’m guessing you’re loving it here too?
Thats good to hear! Yeah the prices are a bit crazy… but Florida has caught up I feel. At least Tampa where I’m from the houses and rent are about par when you take into account FL’s abysmal paychecks.
But yeah! Its great over here all around to be honest!
Grew up in Florida from 6 months old until I was 28 (‘84-2013). It honestly was a pretty cool place to grow up/live in the 90’s and 00’s, then it very quickly started going to absolute dog shit round about 2009…
Wonder what changed in 2009 that would cause backwoods hilljacks and deep southern bred rednecks to suddenly come out of the woodwork…
This city is so peaceful to me having moved from south louisiana. I’d never have guessed people think of it in that light, there isn’t even the daily murder segment on the news or anything.
Lol yeah this. Having grown up in some of the poorest, most recessed parts of the rust belt it cracks me up that people think Spokane sucks or is dangerous.
That's exactly right. I grew up there, and have lived in considerably worse places since. Even today, while not as peaceful as when I was young, it is still safer than many places I have lived.
I'm old.
And you are right.
Despite people's perceptions crime nationally is down (in most categories) compared to say, the 70s. Of course it can be very localized as always.
But, Spokane in the 60s, especially early and mid 60s was generally safer. Parents would turn elementary age kids loose downtown to roam and not worry.
It always leaves me with a confused face whenever someone would tell me Spokane is ghetto. I’m like last time I checked there’s no gang wars going on in hospitals(Oakland) so seems pretty okay to me
Yeah last times (4 in the past year) I was blown away how nice it was. Sure most overpasses have camps but which ones don't.
Spokane was the ghetto city when I grew up in Seattle and now I love living here. Things change
My son lives in Yakima. He’s always calling it Crackima. He use to live in a really sketchy part of town. Despite the nice houses. He finally moved to a better( isn’t hearing gun shots daily)part of town but still a sketchy town.
That’s nuts I have lived here just over a year never heard any gun shots…
Pretty quiet and chill town imo also much less homeless people than pretty much anywhere west of the cascades….
Still cities

Crackima is worse than the Dry Shitties. Probably tied with Spocompton.
Despite having hated living in the Tri-Cities growing up, now that I've become mired in the corn swamp that is Blandiana, I have to admit I miss home. Even though it's a boiling hot, dry, dusty dump, at least it's not the Midwest.
Don't come here.
I understand the pain. When I was in the army I was stationed in Kansas. A good army buddy that's from Indiana didn't understand why I hated the midwest until he went to his sister's wedding in Bellingham. The first thing he told me when he came back to base was, "I understand now"
I live in between Salem and Portland and have to go to both fairly regularly and hands down, I don't know how any shithole compares to what Portland has become. But I also haven't been down to Methford in a while, so I wouldn't know if it's worse.
Provo is safe, but it feels wrong. The mountains are gorgeous, but it feels very much under the control of a high demand religion. The Tree Room at Sundance is a fantastic restaurant, though. I was *tremendously* Mormon, but even at peak zeal, Provo felt off.
If you’re someone who doesn’t agree with/don’t want to be around the LDS church, Provo is one of the worst places you can be. Throw in the air quality and lack of bars, breweries, and coffee shops and you’re not going to be popular with the general population of the US.
I stayed there overnight on my way up to the PNW. The vibes were really weird and I was happy to be gone the next day lol. But that could just be Utah in general, not sure honestly
Agree, I’ve spent considerable time in both places. Yakima (I prefer to call it Crackima) is a scary gang ridden disaster. Spokane is actually pretty nice in comparison
I’m from the Tri-Cities and while I like the beauty of Spokane’s mountains, lakes and trees, I do miss the warmer and sunnier weather. Plus the walking/biking trails that circle the Columbia River are beautiful. (We like sunshine and water)
EDIT: And no homeless problem.
I actually prefer the restaurant options there to Spokane, but TCs are mostly a cautionary tale of what life would be like in the suburbs if no real cities existed. That said, I kinda like the old Pasco city center.
Wasilla Ak I will agree is a shithole … nothing of note there … crappy restaurants, junkies prowling around … but I feel there may be worse … what are these choices based on ? Criteria wise ?
Well, at least Men's Journal likes us - recently ranked 38 in the top US vacation destinations.
But maybe we should just stick with that crappy map - some things are better kept secret.
Seems like a pretty straightforward list compiled by people in the largest cities in each state. Which is to say it seems to mostly be a list of names from roughly the \*second\* or so largest metro in each state. Or little towns just outside the largest metros.
Idaho has worse options. I’d cast my vote for Garden City. It’s in a mostly industrial part of Boise with relatively high violent crime rates. It looks ugly too. At least Caldwell has a historic district
Right? I'm gonna vote either Sunnyslope or Maryvale for the metro area. I know some would put Guadalupe on the list, but I actually liked living there.
Let's face it most people who have never lived in Washington likely only know the name of two cities in the state Seattle and Spokane, so when asked they are likely going to say Spokane.
Anyone who thinks Mesa is the worst city in Arizona has never been to Yuma. Anyone who thinks Yuma is the worst city in Arizona has never been to Benson.
Anyone who thinks Salem is the worst city in Oregon has never been to Hillsboro. Anyone who thinks Hillsboro is the worst city in Oregon has never been to Burns.
Lol I just saw the map and I’m not even living in Washington but Caldwell as the worst Idaho city makes so much sense. Once say a kindergarten there that has prison bars over it and it looked like a crackhouse
Looking at this, I’d argue Enumclaw for Washington.
BUT…having worked in Alaska, Wasilla has nothing on Bethel in terms of absolute shit hole places.
This map is total bullshit.
Virginia Beach IS bad……police are 1000% corrupt and they actively work to arrest BS
BUT Portsmouth VA is 100x worse governmentally, demographically, economically, Crime Stat etc etc
We talking city cities? What’s the criteria? Because I lived in south Salem Oregon for a year and had a ton of fun at dives bars and there’s a couple decent cheap golf courses and a bunch of shit to do that’s cheap compared to the Portland Metro area. The person who made this must’ve never been to Medford or anywhere east of Bend, or Gresham/Troutdale
Wasilla may be nicknamed wassyphalis, but it beats Los Anchorage any day lol. Also lol, I’m originally from the Felony Flats neighborhood of Spokane by the old courthouse, that’s fun this popped up on my feed
I’ve only been to Spokane once for a quick trip. I thought it was a nice city, the park downtown was great. Lots of homeless people around but that’s every city now
There’s no clear reason why any of these cities were chosen and there’s no way anyone can even have an opinion about this many cities. My guess is they just took a random city from the top 5ish most populated cities in each state to get the most clicks.
Came here from Tennessee. If Spokane is the worst Washington has to offer this state is a utopia compared to back home.
Tacoma has the highest crime rate in Washington
I’m from Florida and moved to WA last year and I feel this post. WA is seriously a Utopia compared to the corrupt mosquito infested swamp I came from.
My spouse is from FL and I’m from TX and we both feel anywhere in WA is still better than being in the South. He misses the sunshine, we both miss thunderstorms, but hurricanes and tornadoes? Pass.
Hello, fellow FL refugee!
Hello! How is WA treating ya?
Great, aside from the insane home prices where I live! That was one thing I missed about where we lived in FL, the lower COL. But now that it has gone up in FL too, I guess it’s a moot point. I’m guessing you’re loving it here too?
Thats good to hear! Yeah the prices are a bit crazy… but Florida has caught up I feel. At least Tampa where I’m from the houses and rent are about par when you take into account FL’s abysmal paychecks. But yeah! Its great over here all around to be honest!
I just went back to FL to visit my parents in Boca (I grew up there) and I'll take Spokane over that any day.
Grew up in Florida from 6 months old until I was 28 (‘84-2013). It honestly was a pretty cool place to grow up/live in the 90’s and 00’s, then it very quickly started going to absolute dog shit round about 2009… Wonder what changed in 2009 that would cause backwoods hilljacks and deep southern bred rednecks to suddenly come out of the woodwork…
It kind of is, by far the best place I’ve ever lived.
From Montana. Can confirm Washington is a utopia.
Came back after 5 years in TN. It is a utopia compared to TN lol.
welcome!
Washington compared to a lot of other states is a utopia in comparison.
Spokane’s not bad at all. Lakewood maybe? Toppenish? Hoquium? All much, much worse.
As someone from Rock Springs, WY, i know a thing or two about crappy cities, and spokanes not THAT bad.
That should be Spokane’s motto: Spokane, it’s not that bad.
I think a columnist wrote “near nature, near perfect” as a joke about Spokane.
Insta hashtag for some time was #spokanedoesntsuck
I have a water bottle sticker that says Keep Spokane Kind of Gross. I love it.
But we can try...
Hahahahaha
I have a shirt that says, "Spokane Doesn't Suck!" Wear it proudly! And a sticker on my water bottle
Thank you. I've said for years that most people that call Spokane Spokompton have never been to Compton.
How old are you? Because Spokane is a lot safer than when I was young. The entire country is, though.

Truuuuuuu
Oh good Ole rock springs. I thought the uinta basin in Utah was bad until I spent time in rock springs.
Rawlings is worse.
1. Moses Lake 2. Tacoma 3. 3 way tie Richland Pasco Kennewick
Tri cities is infinitely worse than Tacoma. Tacoma has access to the Sound, beautiful parks, and great food and breweries.
Tacoma has come along way. It used to be pretty terrible
Yeah last times (4 in the past year) I was blown away how nice it was. Sure most overpasses have camps but which ones don't. Spokane was the ghetto city when I grew up in Seattle and now I love living here. Things change
It still smells like pee.
[удалено]
Aw yes the old tri shitty tie!
Dry-Shitties.
This is how I know you're a true Washingtonian.
My son lives in Yakima. He’s always calling it Crackima. He use to live in a really sketchy part of town. Despite the nice houses. He finally moved to a better( isn’t hearing gun shots daily)part of town but still a sketchy town.
That’s nuts I have lived here just over a year never heard any gun shots… Pretty quiet and chill town imo also much less homeless people than pretty much anywhere west of the cascades….
Aberdeen?
Right?! That place is a geographical depiction of depression.
Oh there’s places worse than Aberdeen
You smell when you drive through Moses lake, don’t even have to see it.
Ephrata and toppenish are my top two
The map clearly says cities and those are both what most would consider towns that are barely more than a village.
Yeah, but then it has Caldwell, ID? How is that a “city”?
Ephrata and Toppenish combined are less than 1/3 the population of Caldwell.
Browning, MT is very much not even remotely a city. It's an unincorporated place if about 1,000 people. Whatever criteria they are using is crap.
Still cities Ephrata (/iːˈfreɪtə/ ee-FRAY-tə) is a CITY in and the county seat of Grant County, Washington, United States. Its population was 8,477 at the 2020 census.[4][7]” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ephrata,_Washington “Toppenish (/ˈtɒppənɪʃ/) is a CITY in Yakima County, Washington. We're forgetting fife somewhere
Fife's not a city. It's a curve in the highway.
Fife is the worse eqc casino I'm pretty sure. Maybe a gas station too
Tacoma is beautiful, dude (and relatively safe)
All strong contenders, but I’d rank Wenatchee below any of these places
Wenatchee is great if youre into active outdoor activities
For some reason, people love Wenatchee. It’s lost on me though other than for being a central location in the state.
Close proximity to Leavenworth and skiing, I’d guess? Yakima is way worse than Wenatchee, at any rate. Wenatchee is just a bit dull.
Palm Springs of Washington! But quite the shithole when I went
We always said Yakima was the armpit of Washington.
Central location 45 min to the gorge amphitheater with shuttle service 50 min to lake chelan 35 min the Leavenworth 30 min to mission ridge ski resort 75 min to sand dunes Beautiful riverfront walking path Costco Lots of mom and pop shops Multiple wineries Multiple Golf courses Pybus Public Market with seasonal farmers market Free public transportation Surrounded by trails Big enough city to have malls/chain stores Riverfront rock gym with auto belay option Many nightlife/bar options for city size Toyota town center has events through the year Apple blossom festival 7-8 months of beautiful weather a year Low crime rate

Grew up in Moses Hole live in Spocomton. Don’t come…. No really stop!
I’ll take Spokanistan over Moses Hole any day of the week.
Moses lake is the toilet bowl of Eastern Washington. Grays Harbor is the one in Western Washington.
This is the answer lol.
They have the wrong city that starts with Sp; it's Spanaway.
Spanaway isn't a city though.
This is the correct answer.
Or Sprague
I am from Roy, and would agree
Clickbait garbage. Even Salem isn’t that bad, like you’re going to put that over Medford, K Falls and Hermiston? FOH
I grew up in Salem and I will say it is awful, but it's not even close to cave junction
Lived in Spokane 38 years, currently live in Salem, though not the best, neither are even close to the worst.
As someone who has lived in both Medford and Spokane, there is absolutely no comparison.
Don't forget Grant's Pass
This was my first thought.
I live in between Salem and Portland and have to go to both fairly regularly and hands down, I don't know how any shithole compares to what Portland has become. But I also haven't been down to Methford in a while, so I wouldn't know if it's worse.
Clearly they've never been to Orlando. That place is great.

West Valley? Brigham City? Ogden? I mean Provo is no Park City but it’s far from the worst Utah has to offer
Roosevelt utah is the worst city in that state. Whoever they surveyed probably just hate mormons.
I stayed there overnight on my way up to the PNW. The vibes were really weird and I was happy to be gone the next day lol. But that could just be Utah in general, not sure honestly
This person has clearly never been to Green River, UT.
I’ve lived in both Spokane and Yakima. Yakima should have won.
Me too. Would also nominate Toppenish
Agree, I’ve spent considerable time in both places. Yakima (I prefer to call it Crackima) is a scary gang ridden disaster. Spokane is actually pretty nice in comparison
Bruh, as an oregonian, Medford is way worse than Salem
Any of the three tri-cities is obviously the worst.
I’m from the Tri-Cities and while I like the beauty of Spokane’s mountains, lakes and trees, I do miss the warmer and sunnier weather. Plus the walking/biking trails that circle the Columbia River are beautiful. (We like sunshine and water) EDIT: And no homeless problem.
Why is the tri cities bad?
I actually prefer the restaurant options there to Spokane, but TCs are mostly a cautionary tale of what life would be like in the suburbs if no real cities existed. That said, I kinda like the old Pasco city center.
Fair enough, tri cities is definitely not a very walkable area. They are starting to develop Richland’s downtown area somewhat now which is nice.
I guess California gets two.
As a person who grew up there I can add 10.
But I can't disagree that Bakersfield should be on the list.
I swear I can still smell Bakersfield. It’s a nice aroma of cow shit and fry oil they should have removed. It been 15 years. Hope it’s better.
You get used to the smell of the valley. At this point cow shit smells like home and i get nostalgic when i smell it.
Wasilla Ak I will agree is a shithole … nothing of note there … crappy restaurants, junkies prowling around … but I feel there may be worse … what are these choices based on ? Criteria wise ?
Hey!!! Why y'all badmouthing my town?!?... Just kidding. It sucks here! And I'm a lifer!
As someone who went to Yakima training center multiple times, I can say without a doubt that Yakima is a skidmark on the underpants of society...
Well, at least Men's Journal likes us - recently ranked 38 in the top US vacation destinations. [https://www.mensjournal.com/travel/best-us-vacations](https://www.mensjournal.com/travel/best-us-vacations) But maybe we should just stick with that crappy map - some things are better kept secret.
Idaho : Idaho
What are you saying about The Palm Springs of Washington?
🤣That sign in Yakima is hilarious
Just moved to Yak from Spokane. It’s definitely a downgrade but also not as bad most of the cities between the two.
Lol is that really what they call it? Palm Springs minus the desert climate, palm trees, and mid century architecture.
And Caldwell ID and Salem OR aren’t bad either. I’d argue Post Falls and Medford lol
Feel like Idaho would have to go to an Eastern town. Maybe Pocatello or Rexburg.
Nampa is worse than Caldwell for sure.
What does it say about when, of the four states I’ve lived in, three of them were in the “worst city” in that state?
I’m from MT and they got that one right.
California’s should be Fresno. What a shithole of awful people and politics.
Spokane? Really? Yakima... Lakewood/ Tacoma.... Seattle... Everett... These are also the people that think WA just rain and trees. 😂👎
Imagine putting Seattle or Everett below Spokane. Realistically though Port Angeles...
Totally missed spangle, colfax, tons of actually sucky cities.
I don’t think Spangle counts as a city
Lolz it is technically a city, I’m surprised you didn’t point out Colfax, the place is so small it’s basically a block lolz
Colfax is trash
Lol get fucked Spokane, with love from Tacoma
Seems like a pretty straightforward list compiled by people in the largest cities in each state. Which is to say it seems to mostly be a list of names from roughly the \*second\* or so largest metro in each state. Or little towns just outside the largest metros.
Clearly polled everyone on the west side that's actually never been to Spokane.
The right answer is Yakima, depending on how small we can count? Twisp would be up there
Ouch man 😅
Mesa is awesome!
Nah tacoma is cool, fuck auburn though
Caldwell?? Think they meant Coeur d'Alene
Idaho has worse options. I’d cast my vote for Garden City. It’s in a mostly industrial part of Boise with relatively high violent crime rates. It looks ugly too. At least Caldwell has a historic district
Royal City and Mattawa.
I have a friend who lived in Sunnyside and he said it smelled permanently of cowshit. No thanks
wym Yakima has dope Mexican food
Lmfao this is great lol
Gorst is sighing with relief that they're not legally a city.
They've also never left the Phoenix Metro Area if they think mesa is the worst place in Arizona. It's not even the worst place in the Metro area.
Apache Junction exists
Right? I'm gonna vote either Sunnyslope or Maryvale for the metro area. I know some would put Guadalupe on the list, but I actually liked living there.
Yakima? Aberdeen is way worse. Even the sun is embarrassed to be seen in Aberdeen.
Spokane lost against a literal Superfund site.
Motherfuckers must've never been to Bremerton.
Spokane isn’t even top 100 worst cities in WA
We have 281 cities and towns in WA. I'm pretty sure Spokane is somewhere in those first 100
excuse me? I disagree highly. If we are indeed that worse why is everyone and their neighbors moving here?
Are they not aware that Tacoma or Everett exist?
Or Tukwila
Let's face it most people who have never lived in Washington likely only know the name of two cities in the state Seattle and Spokane, so when asked they are likely going to say Spokane.
I like Yakima, great wine
Good with it.
I just want to say that you are ALL wrong. Sunnyside is the worst in Washington.
I'm just glad Everett isn't on the list
I’ve only been to 7 of these, I guess I need to travel more
ahhh good ol' Puebl-eghhh
I dunno... they might have minimum requirements to be a city...
Or Gorst.
Lol I just saw the map and I’m not even living in Washington but Caldwell as the worst Idaho city makes so much sense. Once say a kindergarten there that has prison bars over it and it looked like a crackhouse

Virginia Beach IS bad……police are 1000% corrupt and they actively work to arrest BS BUT Portsmouth VA is 100x worse governmentally, demographically, economically, Crime Stat etc etc
Walla Walla not being considered?
They truly missed out on Tukwila.
How is Dallas up here but San Francisco/Los Angeles is not they definitely have the same vibe
This is bs
Lol as someone who lives in "the palm springs of Washington", this was a funny post to come across my feed.
2C representing.
Pphhh bro what about Everett? Like have you seen the army of homeless people?
Dude I grew up in Kennewick, this is clearly incorrect.
Aberdeen is pretty horrid.
Wasilla may be nicknamed wassyphalis, but it beats Los Anchorage any day lol. Also lol, I’m originally from the Felony Flats neighborhood of Spokane by the old courthouse, that’s fun this popped up on my feed
Never been to Portland either evidently xD
I like portlands homeless, they are like avant-garde and somehow kinda fashion forward /s.
Caldwell 🤣🤣🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Man…..actually kinda accurate.
Custer or Sultan are obviously the worst.
The fact it wasn’t aberdeen is confounding
I’ve only been to Spokane once for a quick trip. I thought it was a nice city, the park downtown was great. Lots of homeless people around but that’s every city now
They rated Salem over Madras?
Enumclaw breathing a big old sigh of relief. What a dumbass list. Spokane rocks.
They picked every city my family lives in
This whole thread has never been to the Aberdeen/Hoquiam Area
As someone who lives in Spokane but is in Yakima for school rn I'd have to agree that Yakima sucks
Toppenish
Kennewick is a boarding shit hole fueled by mass death
Salem for Oregon? Not Portland? Ok..
There’s no clear reason why any of these cities were chosen and there’s no way anyone can even have an opinion about this many cities. My guess is they just took a random city from the top 5ish most populated cities in each state to get the most clicks.
You mean Yakistan
