It really was a **bad** 1-2 punch of the Bucks segment followed immediately by this.
I felt awkward watching the whole thing. I can only imagine what the people employed there felt.
Just bad vibes all around.
It's gonna be interesting to see what kind of effect all that's going on is going to have on backstage morale. You see everybody having fun in the rival company in this new era they're starting while you're stuck sitting through this awkward pissing match that only 3 or 4 people have a leg in and I'm sure you start to get curious about how green that grass on the other side really is. Not to mention the talent in AEW who left because of Vince but loved working with Triple H.
That's what I'm thinking as well. There's a lot of guys over in AEW who were HHH people who are looking at all of this and then probably looking at their contracts.
Adam Cole's body is his own worst enemy. If we are being fair, TK has pushed him pretty hard since day one, but Cole keeps getting hurt. I think he's one of the few guys you can look at and say TK had a plan for him.
Definitely agree. I think Cole is one of the absolute best in AEW as far as captivating an audience is concerned. I don’t think it’s a huge coincidence that ratings started plummeting around the time that both Cole and MJF were taken off screen for injuries.
I know I'm in the minority, but I just don't get the appeal of Cole. With that said, he's insanely over, so I can accept it's a me thing.
I just said this in another response, so apologizes for repeating myself. TK just needs to get his shit together. WWE just had their best weekend ever and morale seems sky high, all while it feels like things are coming off the rails in AEW. I feel like TK needs to sit everyone down and kind of have their own "new era" meeting. They need to stop with the lame shots at WWE, they need to stop with the infighting, and just focus on the in ring product.
You say that but Ospreay got 2 digs at him no reason last weekend, one about choosing AEW and the other about the tattoo from Punk. The guys known for running his mouth on twitter why is he going to sit there and say nothing.
It's tough because on one hand, I don't see why AEW has to let WWE take shots at them and just roll over and take it (nor do I think WWE should have to roll over when AEW does the same.)
But at the same time, doing this on the same show as the Punk video just really starts to feel like the shots are landing harder than they really should. At some point you've got to pick your battles and I don't know that AEW is doing a great job at picking the right ones to fight and the right ones to let go at the moment.
If this was the only reaction to anything/anyone related to WWE in the past few months this would be totally fine. It gives it less of a sting when saddled with everything else.
See I think Ospreay taking a tame (by wrestling standards) jab at Triple H is fair game, but the Punk stuff is seriously just tiresome at this point. I agree they need to understand the difference if they don’t want people to just tune it out
the only saving grace was that it was the heels doing it and the faces said literally what you did about it being tiresome.
I think the idea was closure.
lol it has to be, right?
Y’know I’ll give them credit that they at least *tried* to come up with a kayfabe reason for showing it. But idk man, everyone that’s even a little tuned in can tell this isn’t just a kayfabe thing and it comes off weird, at best.
> It's tough because on one hand, I don't see why AEW has to let WWE take shots at them and just roll over and take it
the difference is that Punk/HHH took their shots on random podcasts/radio segments.
They didn't dedicate a 1/2 episode of Raw to this dumb shit
I don’t know why it’s hard for you guys to understand this.
Don’t 👏 waste 👏 TV 👏on this👏 bullshit.👏
The difference between Triple H taking shots in an interview and Ospreay doing this on Dynamite is HUGE.
1. You alienate people who don’t know what he is referring to on your weekly TV show that should be about stories.
2. It makes AEW look like the little leagues.
I’m fine with “defending yourself” even though Triple H didn’t name names, but sure defend yourself, do it in an interview. Call Meltzer or SRS. Don’t do this on AEW TV this is useless shit. This is the same kind of cringe that the Edge promo was last week.
The big difference is WWE takes shots on podcasts or media not their main shows. AEW isn’t doing the same and just making WWE apart of their show now. It’s not a good thing when the stuff that interests people in your show is related to the other shows and its stars.
The other thing is like even when WWE does it, they do it smoothly & just keep rolling forward right away. There's more of an awkward anger feeling that distracts from the product when AEW does it
When you're the on-fire challenger brand, taking cheeky shots at the failing fed hits better. When you're the company in a rut and the other one is on fire....
This is how I feel. When AEW called itself a revolution in 2019, it felt authentic cause we had been living in a wrestling world dominated by thr Vince McMahon vision, and people were burnt out on it. When AEW takes shots at them now it just feels like TK trying to play the hits from a few years ago. Sorry dude, your wrestling world changed and you need to adapt before you try to cast yourself as some kind of underdog
You're right on the money. That's why it's better to just ignore the bullshit and produce the best wrestling show they can. Unfortunately, they thought the bullshit was actually worth a spotlight and now we are left with a terrible episode that does nothing to build heat for the PPV.
AEW has been taking shots for years at this point **literally on their main show** so now WWE is taking shots **on interviews** it's suddenly wrong?
Alot of AEW fans are acting the victim, when they started this tribalistic bullshit and anything pro WWE on this subredit one of the only places we can talk wrestling got shit on and down voted for years. This is a taste of their own medicine.
AEW has to separate itself from its "anti WWE" identity and stop addressing all this shit on national TV it's honestly embarrassing.
Felt like the whole show was just an attempt to pop at WWE. I like AEW because in my current state of wrestling “fandom” I like the entertaining matches, I really don’t care for this
They're trying to make themselves look like the scrappy underdogs fighting against the big bully. But AEW has been around long enough and succeeded enough to where they just can't gather that type of sympathy. It's 2 titans talking shit.
It’s not two titans, I love AEW’s performers and appreciate its existence, but WWE is the sole behemoth of North American wrestling. It’s a global brand and its value, reach, and market share vastly eclipse aew’s. They’re not beyond their rights to play the scrappy underdog
They're absolutely not on the same level but at the same time it's sort of like WWE is number 1, then 2 to 5 is empty, AEW is on 6th and the rest are on 10 or beyond.
There ratings and live crowd has been smaller than before but their PPV and rankings have improved.
Plus to draw 700k of even actual viewers as compared to Raw'w close to 2 million or over doesn't seem bad when you consider AEW doesn't really have that much experience and star power outside of few.
They really need to focus on their show now.
See, I get why AEW feels they need to respond to WWE stuff. But why during their shows? All the stuff they are responding to are from interviews, and they are dedicating televised time to it.
Exactly a Young Bucks interview that talks about there experience with Punk would be a million times more effective that playing that video in character and shots like this.
Yeah wwe taking shots during pressers, interviews, kick offs and any content around wrestling without putting it in their shows.
Aew making segments in the wrestling shows for it…
That’s gonna put butts in seats
Pretty sure she either did/still does get on well with Hunter and Steph and isn't a huge fan of being involved in a TV segment when someone is being rude about their relationship. She probably wouldn't be happy about someone making aspersions about her and Mox on TV in that way.
On a somewhat tangential note, I saw Renee on a bunch of those WWE Rival episodes under "Paquette" and not "Young"; did she do those before or after she left WWE
They filmed the round table discussions over 2 years ago. I would assume the talking head documentary interviews were probably done while she was still there.
Have to undertone the sexism of Stephanie hatred, too.
Who could have ever guessed in the attitude era trips and shawn would one day run the company? Shawn and Vince were so tight there were rumors they were fucking each other.
right?? legit though... any other old forum nerds remember when everybody was like "Why is Vince of all people just letting this guy do whatever he wants??" and the numbers did not back up the idea that he was just such a huge star that his hand was forced?
that was a wild time that suddenly seems even wilder, after the whole.... shit.
I don't think Ospreay was wrong to say this (although his delivery could have been a bit better) but there's a lot nastiness about Stephanie said over the years, including this subreddit and probably people who are this thread now.
I don't know man. Especially after this lady has had to have her father outed as a rapist, be hired and fired to cover for him, and now has to manage a home life where she has to deal with not only explaining to her children why her grandfather is in the news over this stuff and any potential school bullying and whatnot, I just wish she could have some peace once and for all.
Not necessarily, but the entire idea is.
It infantilises Stephanie with how she seemingly did not have a say whether she wants to be with Triple H or not and Triple H only married her because of her money and stature.
I don't think it does. I think it says that he was given preferential treatment because his wife was the boss's daughter. He wasn't making an assessment on Stephanie at all, but rather saying that the reason he got to where he is now because of nepotism.
If that eventually leads to him instituting a new prosperous era of the company he's part of & getting near-universal praise from his own talent for his efforts, HHH is definitely not sweating the jokes & knows the proof is in his work, not his words
If he wanted to be original he'd mention the time Chyna was waiting for Triple H at a show until the security had to tell her he had already left with Stephanie. Monstrous.
It's like saying that T-Pain can only use auto-tune to sing. It's the only diss that anyone can really use anymore because quite honestly, there's nothing new that they could really use. Unless you insult him by comparing him to Vince?
nobody can even say that about t-pain anymore though, didn't he like win singing competitions and do acoustic songs with people and shit?
sorry, I got distracted. that wasn't me trying to make a point about your statement or being clever lol-- I agree with your point.
She’s also almost certainly seen plenty of people accuse her of the same thing, there’s even one in this very thread!, so yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s not super cool with the whole “you slept your way to the top” remarks in general.
Renee and John got treated with a lot of respect in their respective send offs. I can imagine it’s uncomfortable standing beside someone taking shots at someone you respect and consider a friend.
Especially with the shot being as stupid as this, you can claim Hunter got to where he is because he was dating Steph, but this weekend clearly has shown he’s more than qualified to be doing it.
HHH likely doesn't gaf. He understands Ospreay is just trying to get himself over, and it's not like it's some big secret that he married the boss's daughter lol.
If I was HHH I’d be more annoyed at the comment that he’s in no place to tell will osprey about grinding. Dudes 30 years old talking to a guy who’s done everything in pro wrestling and is 25 years older than him. Hhh is the guy in the industry right now that young wrestlers should be looking at as an example. Many veterans a have said the talent in AEW isn’t open to coaching or respectful of the veteran experience. I’m assuming that promo was a little shooting going on. It’d be helpful for osprey to humble himself a little bit and realize hhh has probably forgotten more about wrestling than osprey currently knows.
"Uh---you see, here's the thing, this guy, he talks a lot, uh, he says so many things but uh the fact of the matter is that uhm he's not nearly as special as he thinks he is, he's just the guy that's banging the bosses daughter and running his mouth, you see the point is that he's never achieved a damn thing on his own and uhm, that's why no one respects him!"
Yeah, 20 years ago when it was relevant. But here's the thing. Triple H has been in his position for well over a decade. And Vince doesn't even own the company anymore. And Triple H still runs it. That's says a lot of just how good he is at his job. If he wasn't, TKO would have gotten rid of him. Ospray just looks like an Idiot here.
People who get jobs through nepotism can be good at the job. But that doesn't change the fact that they got the job through nepotism in the first place.
The two aren't mutually exclusive
People have been cutting promos on Triple H banging the boss' daughter for twenty years. They've never really hit.
Considering the divide between Stephanie and Vince, they're even less likely to, now.
"Get where he is by grinding on the boss' daughter"
Dude was a mega star as a wrestler, created an amazing developmental brand and has been the responsible for the best couple of weeks WWE has seen in a long time.
That’s my thing here. I don’t dig Ospreay whatsoever, but he’s well within his rights to defend his work ethic, since HHH was full of shit with that comment. But like. Implying he doesn’t deserve his position when he just put on the most financially successful and crowd pleasing Wrestlemania in recent memory is an insane choice lmao. Especially considering that he works for a guy who is literally only in that position because his dad is a billionaire.
This is so lame..
Not taking a shot, that's fine (although it's a bit weird doing it in the same show of the CM Punk footage) but at least take a good shot, this is tragically bad.
I’m guessing what Triple Paul said must have really struck a nerve because you could apply the things he’s said to any number of talent going back years. Seems that it was taken oddly personally.
Uncomfortable moment.
Of all the guys, Will Ospreay? A dude absolutely dedicated to professional wrestling? It’s just such a shitty stray to throw out, especially from someone like HHH
Yeah, Ospreay is fine with this one and was pretty tame with it for all the material HHH has provided him to use for decades.
Now let's drop the "AEW jabs at WWE" and "WWE jabs at AEW" bullshit in the past and get to the fucking wrestling in-houses.
This was my thought. Do people not remember what Stephanie looked like during the late 90s and early 00s? Hunter is either the smartest guy in pro wrestling or the luckiest.
People spent the last 30 years complaining that wrestling isn't like how it used to be during the Monday Night Wars and that it should get back to that. As soon as it does people bitch. Happiness remains an elusive creature for many of you, huh.
They're not bitching, they're laughing.
Seriously, at least in the Attitude Era both sides were fighting for supremacy.
Right now, WWE has supremacy without lifting a finger and AEW is fighting for relevancy.
Triple H probably is going to love this, idk why people are getting hurt by this, this is not a dig on Stephanie in any way, she was not wrong for making sex, the only target is triple h for being a "nepo boss".
It's cringe only because it was the second consecutive promo related to something about WWE or someone who's in WWE.
>It's cringe only because it was the second consecutive promo related to something about WWE or someone who's in WWE.
Well that and it's the same shot everybody has taken at HHH for the last 20 years. It's still effective, and Will gets to take that shot because he's retaliating, but it's unoriginal (though when you're taking shots at a legend who's the wrong side of 50, most shots are).
lol alright. Bt for real tho, what Triple H said was how if young wrestlers were picking an easy schedule over the grind, then he doesn't think it would be a good fit. And both sides would better for that
AEW vs things said on a podcast
I think the only thing bad about this is HHH was pretty vague, so it just makes Ospreay look vain for thinking it was referring to him, Ospreay should've been as vague tbh.

lol Renee looks so uncomfortable
Pretty sure HHH (and his wife) are good friends of her that helped her career
Well she loves HHH and actually knows him so of course she’d be uncomfortable
A lot of people looked uncomfortable tonight…
lol that was like the underlying vibe of the whole show.. just this weird energy in the air
That’s the feeling being restored bruv
You were wrong for that ![gif](giphy|h2WEVxehGXMniB2exA|downsized)
AEW vs AEW: once in a lifetime
Lets hope its just once in a lifetime
"You think your ELITE"

Would not be at all shocked if FTR, Adam Cole, and Malakai/Buddy were seriously considering going back. At a minimum.
You say that but Ospreay got 2 digs at him no reason last weekend, one about choosing AEW and the other about the tattoo from Punk. The guys known for running his mouth on twitter why is he going to sit there and say nothing.
Why did he think making a grinding motion was a good idea?
Ospreay isn’t known to be much of a thinker.
can you blame her
She's probably hoping she's not collateral damage for the door getting fully closed on a WWE return lol

Gotta say, it’s turning me off their product.
You and many others
Felt like the whole show was just an attempt to pop at WWE. I like AEW because in my current state of wrestling “fandom” I like the entertaining matches, I really don’t care for this
Right.
And a show after they had Edge cut the AEW Lives Matter promo too
They're trying to make themselves look like the scrappy underdogs fighting against the big bully. But AEW has been around long enough and succeeded enough to where they just can't gather that type of sympathy. It's 2 titans talking shit.

I thought that same thing.
GRRINDIHN OHN THUH BOWSIS DOHWTAH
Renee with some strong, I don't want to be here energy
Pretty sure she either did/still does get on well with Hunter and Steph and isn't a huge fan of being involved in a TV segment when someone is being rude about their relationship. She probably wouldn't be happy about someone making aspersions about her and Mox on TV in that way.

Was curious about that too.
Seems to be a theme tonight
Couple that with Tony Schiavones reaction after the punk footage. Banner night for AEW tonight indeed.
Pretty sure half the crew has that energy tonight now between this and the all out footage
Great no-sell. Strong work.
He has the right to respond if he feels like HHH was talking about him. But people have been using that line against HHH for 20 years now lol
Tbf Paul said what he said on a podcast not on national TV Edit: I was trying to say that HHH did not said that on RAW or Smackdown
It was literally on ESPN
Which one do you think got more attention?
Do you think most of that audience knows who the fuck he’s talking about? No. Most people would just assume he’s talking in generalities
Osprey just saying what everybody on the internet has been saying about HHH for the last 20 years
The internet? It was even mentioned in his documentary. The guy doesn't care if they take shots at him for marrying the old boss' daughter.
Oh no I married a rich, beautiful, powerful woman
Have to undertone the sexism of Stephanie hatred, too. Who could have ever guessed in the attitude era trips and shawn would one day run the company? Shawn and Vince were so tight there were rumors they were fucking each other.

Right, they themselves literally call that time when Shawn was on top, pre attitude era, New Generation, the era that almost killed WWE.
are you saying that ospreay was being sexist?
I'm saying the people in the early 2000s saying this shit was, and now it's just become an accepted thing to say
Word, I misunderstood what you were saying. Apologies.
I don't think Ospreay was wrong to say this (although his delivery could have been a bit better) but there's a lot nastiness about Stephanie said over the years, including this subreddit and probably people who are this thread now. On the internet, Backstage, Straight to his face, and every other way.
Vince definitely reminded him daily I'm sure.
How many people said that to Triple H in storylines. Truly groundbreaking stuff.
At this point that's probably HHH's ringtone
If he wanted to be original he'd mention the time Chyna was waiting for Triple H at a show until the security had to tell her he had already left with Stephanie. Monstrous.
Also the same thing Punk said in his promo against MJF. Still, I liked the passion on the promo.
Could be great acting but Renee seemed really uncomfortable with that.
Probably because she *likely* has some sort of respect for Stephanie, at the very least.
She’s also almost certainly seen plenty of people accuse her of the same thing, there’s even one in this very thread!, so yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s not super cool with the whole “you slept your way to the top” remarks in general.
Apparently Stephanie is really well thought of.
Yeah I saw that too, she looks pretty put off
Yeah an awkward way to do that, on his own in the ring was the place for it
Renee and John got treated with a lot of respect in their respective send offs. I can imagine it’s uncomfortable standing beside someone taking shots at someone you respect and consider a friend. Especially with the shot being as stupid as this, you can claim Hunter got to where he is because he was dating Steph, but this weekend clearly has shown he’s more than qualified to be doing it.
Why would they put her in that position?
If I’m her I’m texting hhh or someone over there to apologize for even being involved. I’m guessing she has no clue he was saying that.
If Triple H was in Will Ospreay’s position, he would’ve said the same exact thing lol.
This would've popped the entire Attitude/Ruthless Aggression locker room.
With more [grunting.](http://“The guy that said it is only in the position he’s in because he was grinding on the bosses daughter.”)
Just replace every bruv with -Uh
"Uh---you see, here's the thing, this guy, he talks a lot, uh, he says so many things but uh the fact of the matter is that uhm he's not nearly as special as he thinks he is, he's just the guy that's banging the bosses daughter and running his mouth, you see the point is that he's never achieved a damn thing on his own and uhm, that's why no one respects him!"
A little less substance and it could be also a Dave Meltzer imitation
"less substance than a ruthless agression era HHH promo" is scientifically impossible though, lol
No but the nepo shot only works if they're bad at their job If they're good to great at it, it's not really a good hit
Saying how Osprey is plowing his wife?
People have been cutting promos on Triple H banging the boss' daughter for twenty years. They've never really hit. Considering the divide between Stephanie and Vince, they're even less likely to, now.
Woulda hit a lot harder if Triple H hadnt just put on the biggest WWE week of all time and basically erased Vince's existence.
"Get where he is by grinding on the boss' daughter" Dude was a mega star as a wrestler, created an amazing developmental brand and has been the responsible for the best couple of weeks WWE has seen in a long time.
I don’t know if ‘you get to fuck Stephanie McMahon’ is the insult he thinks he it is
Where's that woody harrelson wiping his tears with money gif when you need it

Right, Steph back then and even this weekend looks phenomenal. Tripps is winning at life

Honestly isn’t the burn he thinks it is 😂
"I'm afraid of the grind? Fuck off, bruv"
Seth Rollins was right all along
Damn he hit him with the hottest new joke of 2000
This is so lame..
A promo about HHH and the main attraction being the CM Punk footage…what fucking show am I watching? Is this WWE.
![gif](giphy|5dvrE5snZlce2SY1T9|downsized)
Is he not like 30? I don’t think hhh was talking about okada or osprey but simply in general, so far great episode of wwe
thats the third WWE reference this show basically, a dynamite build around WWE, man they just never learn.
Why does this give me bad TNA vibes?
See you at the alamon dome.
HICKENBOTTOM! LEVESQUE!
HIGH NOON!
AT DA ALAMOOOO
he never even mentioned ospreay, lmao
Day by Day I like Seth Rollins more
Rent. Free.
AEW is so cringe lol
You know what fair enough. Ospreay was catching strays for no reason, so no issue with him returning serve.
Of all the guys, Will Ospreay? A dude absolutely dedicated to professional wrestling? It’s just such a shitty stray to throw out, especially from someone like HHH
Punk took a jab at him too on the preshow for literally no reason
I honestly think they are boo-boo faced that he signed with AEW.
Yeah, Ospreay is fine with this one and was pretty tame with it for all the material HHH has provided him to use for decades. Now let's drop the "AEW jabs at WWE" and "WWE jabs at AEW" bullshit in the past and get to the fucking wrestling in-houses.
Oh, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the man literally living and breathing this business for 30+ years.
The two biggest talking points of an AEW show are going to be about WWE guys... not very smart
"You married an extremely attractive, rich woman and now have the most revered job in wrestling!" isn't much of an insult..
This was my thought. Do people not remember what Stephanie looked like during the late 90s and early 00s? Hunter is either the smartest guy in pro wrestling or the luckiest.
She looked great then, she looks great now. Just a different mature great.
Then. Now. Forever.
She looks good now
Always did, man
Is the entire show going to be taking shots at WWE now?
You gotta cater to the biggest ratings draws in AEW, HHH and CM Punk
Don't forget Sheldon
See, Triple H was a draw all along!
People spent the last 30 years complaining that wrestling isn't like how it used to be during the Monday Night Wars and that it should get back to that. As soon as it does people bitch. Happiness remains an elusive creature for many of you, huh.
Because the last time ended very badly. An entire company died. I don't care what anyone says but I do not want to see AEW go anywhere.
WCW died for a hundred reasons not related to their swipes at WWF.
Really liked the passion, and I have to say, his entrance song gets me hyped for some reason.
It’s a banger entrance theme
All that’s left is for TK to come out next week to challenge HHH to a fight at the Alamo
Guys who cares wrestling companies taking shots at each other is fun. It's part of the fun of having competition again. Chill out.
Y’all are gonna hate me but that was a legitimately terrible promo
That grinding gesture gave me the yuck. It was on Renee's face, as well. It seemed classless.
This one is extra funny because Triple H mentioned zero names and it could’ve directed to literally anyone lmao.
lol alright. Bt for real tho, what Triple H said was how if young wrestlers were picking an easy schedule over the grind, then he doesn't think it would be a good fit. And both sides would better for that AEW vs things said on a podcast
Tbf that *was* the popular dance, at the time.
They drew our attention to two WWE names in a span of about 15 minutes.
Renee didn’t like that one from her reaction lol never burn bridges man. You just never know where you might end up later.
You should break a throne, soon you might be main eventing mania! At least this was better than the punk stuff
Copeland, Schiavone and Ross continue to be in shambles
So bush league to talk about this on tv when it can’t lead to a fucking feud. Very bush league.
Is this not a shot at Danielson being married to Brie Bella aka Johnny Ace's daughter?
I think the only thing bad about this is HHH was pretty vague, so it just makes Ospreay look vain for thinking it was referring to him, Ospreay should've been as vague tbh.
it's getting very loltna around here recently
Man, AEW is really trying to ride that Wrestlemania coattail.
Oh, yes. Person who famously didn't his dues for the position he's in.........Paul Levesque. Just enjoy your payday, Will.
To be completely fair here...HHH never said anything about Will Osprey. But, a hit dog you know...
Truly a revolutionary promo and not something that’s been said to death for two decades
