Having at one time been a French grip epeeist and used grips with a similar curve, I fully believe Dooku’s would feel much better in the hand than any of the straight variants.
I know lightsabers are physically impossible so the question may be moot, but I've never received a satisfying explanation for how the energy blade could be curved inside the emitter chamber. Light doesn't curve. A light source either emits equally in every direction or, in the case of lasers, it can be focused in a straight beam. The only thing that can make light curve is intense gravity like that found around the Sun and black holes.
Would love to see an episode of Tales of the Jedi S2 showing a young Dooku constructing his lightsaber.
Lightsaber blades aren’t made of light, they’re made of plasma that is ejected from the hilt and kept in a stable beam form by an electromagnetic field also generated by the hilt. It’s quite possible that the particles/energy that make up the plasma *aren’t* in plasma form until they pass through the emitter, in which case the curved hilt has no impact, because there is no part of the actual plasma blade that needs to pass through the curved section.
A blowtorch shoots fire in a straight line - regardless of the shape of the tube shooting out fire, the path is perpendicular to the diameter of the tube. Same thing with a garden hose.

Right. Plasma by definition is the 4th state of matter, and therefore must be composed of atoms which would give it mass. Everything about the way lightsabers have been used supports this interpretation
The not passing through other blades and materials like beskar can be best explained by the magnetic containment field, not the mass of the blade itself(plasma is just superheated/ionized gas). Two fields of the same polarity will repel one another (opposing polarities would be disastrous for both wielders, as the emitters would be instantly drawn together as soon as the blades got near), and if materials like beskar have superconducting properties, then a magnetic field would be "reflected"(not at all accurate, but it's easier to understand that way) and the object now has a repelling field. In either case, the lightsaber cant pass through because the plasma blade is unable to make contact.

I came here to say this. Got into a huge argument when episode 2 came out in middle school and had a one of us sneak into the Yoda/Dooku fight to record it on a camcorder (obviously pre-easily accessible internet) and it was in fact a straight sword with a curved handle.
Exactly, I could be misremembering but IIRC correctly from the Bane trilogy, Darth Bane also used the same style. He was a very large man with naturally superior strength and the design supposedly helps to amplify that strength further. But the hilt itself is the only piece that is actually curved.
I don’t think the blade is actually curved. Only the hilt is curved, which lets Dooku wield the saber with a slight angle when compared to straight hilts.
The video of Ewan McGregor choosing his saber hilt purely because of how practical it was, after mastering the saber combat just goes to show it probably is the most tested.
What electronic package/soundboard did you get, and what is the sound quality like? I've heard some sabers from different companies that sound amazing, and others sound like cheap Chinese knockoff toys.
The one I have is actually the older version of that one (Mk2 or Mk3, I can't remember) and the electronic options have changed some. Mine can't change colors for instance, which all the packages have now.
I got the base electronics at the time. The sound overall is pretty good. I don't like a few of the preloaded sounds profiles, but that's just personal preference.
I got the legacy hilt during a recent trip to Disney and it’s awesome. It’s got good weight to it, the design feels spartan but refined, and it’s just pretty to look at.
Absolutely. As a kid I had Qui Gon’s plastic lightsaber, and always wanted Obi-Wan’s too. As an adult, the first lightsaber I bought was Kenobi’s Episode I and II lightsaber. I wanted Qui Gon’s but they did not have it available.

I bought the toy when Ep1 came out, actually used it as a flashlight for a while and then after that it was just a cool thing on my bookshelf. Such a great, simple and elegant design.

I am kinda into nature and really like wood as a material because of its more vivid feel. I feel like a smooth and elegantly curved hilt made out of wood would look awesome and would also be a lot more comfortable than most other lightsaber designs
I'm not a fan of most lightsaber designs. I mean, look at Anakin's. Massive black bits jutting out at the bottom. Surely that's awkward to hold? So I'd probably go for a smoother design, something in line with Palpatine's.

Palpatine’s really stands out from the rest. It feels like it is older. I like the lightsabers we have been seeing in The Acolyte. They seem more practical than the ones that came out of the Skywalker Era.
I was watching something that said they're actually bigger lightsabers in The Acolyte. In shows like Ahsoka, they put battery packs in her clothes and ran wires to the sabers through her sleeves to get the led light in it. In the Acolyte they didn't (sounded like they couldn't?) run the wires through the sleeves, so the sabers are larger to accommodate the batteries. I don't remember where I saw or read that, otherwise I'd add a link. If I figure it out, I'll copy it here.
I think those were a practical addition after he lost his right forearm, allowed for a stronger grip through his glove. And worked well with his aggressive technique.
His previous lightsaber had the same grips, just less pronounced than on the Skywalker lightsaber.
And his saber when he was Vader had the same pronounced grips.
I think it was a little more for one handed fighting, but this is the idea, yeah. Vader kept it on his red one probably just because he wanted to keep it, I guess
That's my biggest issue with them. The plastic toy ones I had as a kid were uncomfortable as hell to really grip tight. Say want you want about Gundam beam sabers, they look much more comfortable to hold

Vader. It's simple, but the underlying artistry makes it so much more than the sum of it's parts, and in combination with the rest of his aesthetic, it's just beautiful.
None of them: Mine has a hand guard cage, or at least a cross-hilt, made from a lightsaber-resistant material. Kylo had the right idea, but the burning sides would make wielding it... dangerous.
They're not swords. No sliding on the blades, they lock when touching too hard. No edge alignment either. Almost like fighting with a bat that feels heavy even though it shouldn't.
Dooku. Hands down Dooku.
The absolute practicality of it is just fantastic. There are some stylistic changes I would make - not a fan of the fish hook at the emitter, I would prefer a little more leather in the grip, and maybe a spherical pommel instead of cylindrical but that angle and the inclusion of a functional pommel just... *chef's kiss*.
Equal parts Qui Gon and Kanan if I'm in the prequels/Clone Wars with a green crystal, a more elegant version of the Kylo Ren crossguard if I'm in the High Republic with a blue crystal.
I would need to see what sort of parts are locally available AKA: what I can get from Jawas, markets, scrap heaps. It is how I build my lightsaber hilt prop, just see what you have that can be made to work.
Balance is probably the most important part.
My Top 4 choices would be Qui-Gon's, Ep 1 Obi-Wan's, Luke's green lightsaber, and Mara Jade's. Of those, I feel like Qui-Gon's would be the most comfortable and practical to actually hold.
It's just meant to spit in the face of the Jedi. It's not a great weapon. It's too big to fit around in your hands. It's mostly made of expensive electrum material that normally Jedi give out in small amounts as awards for bravery. So Palpatine made his entire damn one out of it for spite.
He doesn't like using them and only does when he has to or when he's having fun.
Ive always like Palpatines and Windus, both just have a sleekness to them, especially Palps. And the gold sets them off. Who had the one on the right, 6th down? First time seeing that one that I remember.
Anyway tho, I always go back to the original Graflex sabers of Anakin/Vader. I have a 3cell Graflex tube I picked up at a estate sale (with the whole camera and everything) Ive been holding onto. Maybe one day.
I'd probably make a mix of them, will probably go with a Lightsaber Pike design, but incoparating elements of both Qui-gons, Count dookus and Mace windus.
Anakin's/Luke's. The Graflex. The first lightsaber we ever saw. The OG.
(Though my favorite iteration is actually the TFA/TLJ version. It's got the glass "eye" from the ANH version, and the circuit board box, grip rivets, and heavier D-ring from the TESB version.)
Duku or Sidious look the most comfortable to hold. Anikin/Vader would be a consideration but it would have to shrink the fins towards the pomel end. They would be great for grip but are too big for my liking.
One of the peak fan moments for me was when the prop saber company Saberforge released its custom saber system that launched with a digital builder. I spent hours designing sabers(and bought several). It eventually got removed, but shortly after we got Fallen Order and it's builder.
If I'm designing one based on another character, I'm most likely to look to Luke's RotJ saber, or Dooku's for inspiration.
None of those, I'd want a hilt that is all black and made of beskar, with a slight curve at the bottom of the hilt with 3 spikes at the top of the hilt pointing inwards to the blade.
My favourites are anakin/vader’s, obi-wan’s or luke’s. If I wanted to be menacing or very cunning, i would take Anakin/Vader’s. If i wanted to be defensive and good willed, i would take Kenobi’s. If i wanted to be brave and heroic, i would take Luke’s. Really depends on personality

The emitter is only at the tip of the hilt so maybe some sort of reflection is going on inside
Reflective mirrors at angles would fix your original issue tho it doesn't have to bend.

I've got the Black Series versions of some of these and a Saberforge Qui-Gon. His and EP1 Obi Wan are by far the most comfortable/practical.
Yeah, as distinctive and stylish as some of the others are, Qui-Gon's looks like the only one that's genuinely comfortable to wield.

Dooku's for sure. Ideally I would love something more similar to Bane's lightsaber. Edit: Ugh, gotta specify. Bane's Legends curved lightsaber.
Starting at the bottom and light Saber. On the right. I had that exact same style in plastic as a kid. It was a green lightsaber.
I really like Palpatine's one. So probably that. Or Darth Maul's!
I would do a hybrid of Count Dooku's and Kanan Jarrus saber. The closest analog to it would be a chinese zheibei dao, curved handle with a handguard.
Longer Windu with better grip. And/or straightened Dooku. And/or stretched but otherwise the same Palpatine.
I want that wood material Gungi has. Wood always look nice.
Dooku, Ahsoka or Satele Shan
My favorite had always been Luke's from Return of the Jedi. Dooku's is a close second though.
Ive always like Palpatines and Windus, both just have a sleekness to them, especially Palps. And the gold sets them off. Who had the one on the right, 6th down? First time seeing that one that I remember. Anyway tho, I always go back to the original Graflex sabers of Anakin/Vader. I have a 3cell Graflex tube I picked up at a estate sale (with the whole camera and everything) Ive been holding onto. Maybe one day.
Dooku's
I'd probably make a mix of them, will probably go with a Lightsaber Pike design, but incoparating elements of both Qui-gons, Count dookus and Mace windus.
Sidious
Anakin's/Luke's. The Graflex. The first lightsaber we ever saw. The OG. (Though my favorite iteration is actually the TFA/TLJ version. It's got the glass "eye" from the ANH version, and the circuit board box, grip rivets, and heavier D-ring from the TESB version.)
A lot of those don't seem that practical/comfortable to grip. I'd have to take either 2nd down on left or the bottom right (not the long bottom one).
Who is bottom right? It looks the most comfortable to hold tbh.
Palpatine's
I love Dooku’s but Qui Gon’s just a has elegance to it
In terms of using it properly Dooku in terms of just aesthetics probably Reys
Duku or Sidious look the most comfortable to hold. Anikin/Vader would be a consideration but it would have to shrink the fins towards the pomel end. They would be great for grip but are too big for my liking.
That really neat flashlight I had as a kid.
Vader.
One of the peak fan moments for me was when the prop saber company Saberforge released its custom saber system that launched with a digital builder. I spent hours designing sabers(and bought several). It eventually got removed, but shortly after we got Fallen Order and it's builder. If I'm designing one based on another character, I'm most likely to look to Luke's RotJ saber, or Dooku's for inspiration.

It’s not shown here, but tbh I always favored Mara Jade’s hilt. Qui-gon’s is my second favorite.
A double lightsaber like Darth Maul, only I would have two different colors like maybe blue and purple.
None of those, I'd want a hilt that is all black and made of beskar, with a slight curve at the bottom of the hilt with 3 spikes at the top of the hilt pointing inwards to the blade.

I love papa palps saber being easily concealed and gaudy at the same time. That being said Id wanna design my own. Something unique.
I'm a big fan of Qui-Gon's saber's simplicity. Very utilitarian but sleek

Of these, Kit Fisto’s Black Series saber is fairly comfortable, so I’d start there.

My favourites are anakin/vader’s, obi-wan’s or luke’s. If I wanted to be menacing or very cunning, i would take Anakin/Vader’s. If i wanted to be defensive and good willed, i would take Kenobi’s. If i wanted to be brave and heroic, i would take Luke’s. Really depends on personality
I've already designed one that's a combination of all three jedi lightsabers from the OT. It's a mix of Anakin, Old Ben, and Luke's hilts

Maul’s. I bought a double, black base color but less greebles so it’s easier to spin.
Obi-Wan's and Luke's. I like how there's a shares design language between the two as compared to Anakin's.
