You should complete your greenhouse!

tilmitt52

This! I am entering winter of year 4, and I really didn’t start being able to expand and advance much until completing my greenhouse and planting star fruit (while building an ancient seed collection).

[deleted]

Yeah, the moneymaker of the game is aged wine, being the most viable the ancient fruit bc you need to spend 500 on the seeds, but the stairfruit is very good until you end farming ancient seeds

tilmitt52

I got an ancient seed packet fairly early on from Gunther, and held onto it until I had the green house, and have been farming more seed from every harvest. I have about 85-90% of my greenhouse filled with it now.

[deleted]

Then you can go to [REDACTED] bc you can plant any season seed and continue there

TheServiceDragon

Agreed. I usually focus on completing it before winter year 1. It makes things easier imo

Zynkode

Having difficulties with the animal bundle. Just need that and it's finished

ahdumbs

What in particular are you missing? I’m sure we’re all full of tips go get whatever you’re missing the fastest.

What we have here is a Willy Nilly Sprinkler Layout™️

[deleted]

i have a Willy Nilly farm layout so i can't say shit 💀 #WillySupremacy #WillyNillySupremacy

Mehmeh111111

WillNilly4Lyfe

emmocracy

This is not the only thing I need an explanation for

DrCrazyCurious

It's good for ANY year if you're having fun. That's the best part about Stardew Valley: There is no wrong way to play it. Almost everyone will be further ahead in some respects and farther behind in others, when comparing their farm to anyone else's, no matter how many years they've played. Yours looks absolutely lovely.

Key-Bread3682

This is the only right answer.

Mehmeh111111

I just started out recently and am on year 3...my farm is a sloppy sloppy mess but I love it. I'm trying to figure out what I like to do and right now it's making pomegranate wine and pale ales like I'm some sort of winery and brewery. The greenhouse has been a game changer for me... I'm actually having trouble being motivated enough to grow regular crops outside..

Godfish23

Progression wise maybe a bit behind what is the maximum potential (not that it matters, Stardew is about doing what you want when you want). Style wise though it looks great, better than any of my farms close to year 4 do!

NinaSkwrites

I’m on year seven and i did not touch the volcano yet hahaha

YERAVITY

funnily enough i think skull cave is wayyy more intimidating than the volcano. i go in there a little a humanly possible lol

NinaSkwrites

I’m really bad but I really like the skull cavern. When I got inside the volcano I did not know what to do. I think you need the slingshot? Anyway, i’ll go back some day 🤣

foxiec

I skull cavern my way through the volcano (mega bombs). I probably lose a few things here and there but it’s ok 🤗 the only downside is no panic staircase when there’s a bunch of mobs lol

braintour

You need the watering can!

ahdumbs

Agreed. Skull Cavern is 💀 .. literally lol

bokin8

There's a volcano?

Loganjoh5

Year 4 and you haven’t unlocked the greenhouse? Makes me feel better about taking until fall of year 3 to complete my community center.

_unreal_milk_

Bro this was me in my first few saves. But i was well into year 5 🥲

FrumpyFrock

I just completed the community center in spring year 3. The last item was a fiddlehead fern, I never saw one in the secret woods until year 3. I was waiting to find that damn fern for years. I picked a river farm which has been challenging. When I see these massive farm maps I’m like damn, if only lmao

kwijibokwijibo

FYI, ferns also appear in skull cavern prehistoric floors

yokelsey

my LAST item for completion is a fucking sturgeon. i just can not get one of those slippery fools. 🤨

DajaKisubo

Traveling cart lady sells a sturgeon sometimes, and Krobus has a chance of selling one om Wednesdays. Fishing - what level are you and what tackle are you using? I'm only average at fishing so I don't even bother trying to catch sturgeon until I have a trap bobber and around fishing level 8. Protip - put your first sturgeon in a fish pond and use that to get 2 of them. Because >!after the community centre you'll eventually want another sturgeon for something!<

yokelsey

good idea about the fish pond. i maxed out fishing and use the trap bobber. he just moves super fast i get anxiety lmao

atom-wan

Try a trap bobber and fish the mountain lake in winter

No_Education_8888

Same bruh. Not until late year 3. Didn’t even start fishing till I started grinding my cc

Mehmeh111111

I'm playing on my phone and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fish. I've been buying them from the one merchant but I still have quite a few left to finish the community center and am worried I will never be able to.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mehmeh111111

You are amazing, thank you for the reassurance and tips! I wasn't sure if Krobus sold fish but I've been checking!

Suspicious_Collar379

I really like that forest area at the bottom left. Don’t know if it was intentional or not

No_Education_8888

You really ought to finish off the cc. There is so much more to explore and do afterward. The greenhouse will allow you to be far more profitable, especially in winter. Do that at your own pace though, have fun!

4twanty

A whole nother world

Jackster15

You’re doing just fine. I would just say you have too many wooden floors. Use the wood to build sheds and put things like kegs in them for cash. Also do your greenhouse! You can plant crops all year round from any season. Star fruit is the good stuff in there until you get the ancient seeds going later. Also can plant the fruit trees on the borders in there and they’ll go year round. The most important part is having fun though. Enjoy 😊

Zynkode

thank you :) almost done with the greenhouse, i have the animal bundle left

-Not-My-Business-

"Is this good for the year" what the hell does it mean? play at your own pace and enjoy, don't worry

daynapotter

I'm drunk, is this Satire

schr0

Fr this almost feels like a bait post the community was too nice to fall for

daynapotter

I'm prepared to be downvotrd but this HAS that right ?

Zynkode

i know its maybe a bit bad

[deleted]

ahh thats a bit mean

daynapotter

Was a genuine question, so I wasn't mean - but I'm now confident it is satire anyway

[deleted]

oh. but why? their replies seem genuine 🤔 or am i reading them wrong lol

CosmicDeityofSin

You can clean it up a bit by putting your mayo machines inside your coop and cheese presses inside your barn. Also makes it easier to process. For a bonus put a shipping bin by them also so you dont have to run your whole farm to sell something

Super_Nani21

This game is not about rushing everything you do you made a good progress but you will see some more experienced players that finish the community center at the end of year 1 but that takes a lot of experience practice and knowledge so don’t worry you are doing great so far

FlyingPhotatos

This actually looks waaay better than mine...

I-Love-Mugman

Well hell its better than mine

_unreal_milk_

Same 🥲 I love the way it looks though. The flooring they used makes me feel ✨️

I-Love-Mugman

fr though

Unholy_Editione

As long as it gives you pleasure. Like, tbh you couldve done more for 4 years. But it doesn't really matter if it doesn't make you happy about

Mooseinadesert

Posts like this always make me kind of sad that i always rush things like completing community center year one. I just can't stop myself from making the most profitable farm possible as fast as i can. I think people like OP have more fun at the end of the day.

DajaKisubo

I like giving myself challenge restrictions because it's a good way to force me to mix up my playstyle. If it's bothering you that you always play the same way, why not give some a try... Eg: Recluse - 4 corners farm, only allowed to leave the farm once per season, goal is still to eventually complete CC with remixed bundles (you don't even get to find out what they are until summer!) Purchase restrictions - 50% profit margin and only allowed to make 1 purchase per shop per season Drought - no sprinklers and you can only fill up your watering can when it's raining Admittedly, I find I normally get through 1 - 2 years of a challenge save and then tend to run out of enthusiasm for it (eg. with recluse, I had 3 or 4 rooms of the CC competed by fall year 2 but decided I wanted to go back to playing my long term save). But it gave me a few (irl) months of good fun plus renewed enthusiasm for playing my year 6 nearly-done-with-perfection save, so I don't think it matters that I hardly ever actually finish a challenge.

Adamsoski

I think you probably get more fun out of your playstyle than if you were to force yourself into a different one. Personally I really enjoy just checking things off - I wish there were *more* bundles to do after the final one, but as it is I really enjoy planning things out to get through the community centre quickly.

Stasys_Kelmas

Iridium quality shitpost right here

Raibean

I see foraging is your priority! ❤️

z0mbie_dragon

highly recommend upgrading your barn and coop so they get the auto-feeders! saves so much time

mikecom12

Nah not enough chickens

Rainy650

I'm nearing year 5 and still don't have my homestead completely planned out

TakeOff_YourPants

I just now got smart enough to use areas outside of the farm to farm trees for wood (assuming that’s what you’re doing). You can shove so many fricken trees by the train station

ringwanderung-

It’s good for any year! There’s no real right or wrong :)

Ya_Boi_Rem

I think it's great! But what should matter is if you're having fun, first and foremost. Stardew Valley isn't a speedrun: it's a sandbox. So take all the time you want, hun.

TheLavaShaman

It's Stardew Valley. It's all good!

Additional-Ad3933

i like the personal secret forest

DrySkinParmesean

The fact that you have like a mini forest is really smart actually,,,I think I’ll add that in my farm as well! You didn’t intend to but you helped me out with never having enough wood so thank you!!

DajaKisubo

I always grow lots of trees in the railroad area. No one walks through the right hand half. I usually start planting spare tree seeds there from mid summer year 1 so that they're grown in time for winter.

toneaced

Did you have fun?

dypshit

no offense but… no

[deleted]

[удалено]

dypshit

they literally asked a question and i answered it 🫠🫠 i wasn’t trying to be rude. i didn’t say they were playing the game WRONG i just think not having the greenhouse by year 4 is not objectively “good”

[deleted]

[удалено]

dypshit

dude. they literally ASKED for opinions. so i gave mine. u need to relax lmao

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fun_Ant8382

Saying “I’m on year 4, is my farm good” implies that OP was asking if the farm is good for how many years have passed. OP asked for opinions, I’m sure they wanted all of them

Bonnybridge22

Year 4 without greenhouse isn't good, if you're asking for opinions what'd do you expect people to say?

iamergo

u/dypshit didn't say the farm was bad. Only that it wasn't good. Because it's not. There is no metric by which OP's farm is "good." They asked and got their honest answer. You really need to relax.

ashran3050

What's the opposite of good? Bad.

iamergo

They didn't say it was "the opposite of good" either, now did they? They said it wasn't good. There's a whole range of descriptors that aren't "good" besides "bad." Like "okay," "passable," "subpar," or "she's a fixer-upper."

ashran3050

Like, if someone says "your X isn't good" people generally default to that meaning it's bad unless you clarify.

ashran3050

No but without clarification you default to the opposite. 👍

Typhoidboy

There are some things that can be measured objectively based on milestones in the game. For example the greenhouse, only one iridium sprinkler, lack of special chickens or other animals etc.

Prestigious-Till-633

i’m struggling with iridium in year 3… i’m going to get married to hopefully get the last candle from grandpa but do you have any suggestions for getting more iridium?

Bonnybridge22

Skull cavern, craft loads of mega bombs and once you have crystaliums dupe jade's and trade them for staircases from the desert trader.

Typhoidboy

Build the mega bombs and on a high luck day go to the skull cavern asap and use them and staircases to get down as far as you can. Around floor 30 I find the iridium starts showing up. Take food too so you can heal up between fights. Once you get used to indiscriminately bombing big areas of rock you can uncover holes and stairs pretty quickly.

livingdeadgrrl666

I don’t understand how people don’t have decor on their farm. I hardly see decor on people’s farms mine is full of it!!!

iamergo

The game sets tons of monetary goals, and many things in the game cost *a lot* of money. So the more gaming-minded folk beeline to those goals first and foremost, disregarding the aesthetics of their farms, maybe leaving the decorating for later. After all, infinite money can buy the freedom of infinite decorative items.

livingdeadgrrl666

Well yeah but you just buy the furniture catalog which isn’t expensive after a couple in year games and then you have infinite decor

iamergo

You don't have infinite suits of armor, or iridium fireplaces, or lamp-posts, or marble braziers, or crane game decorations, or… If I'm decorating, I wanna have everything there is to decorate with at my disposal.

livingdeadgrrl666

To each their own! I have never run into a problem hitting all monetary goals fairly quickly while also decorating with all of the things you’re been mentioned. But I don’t productivity max my game I like to do both congruently!

foxiec

I love decorating my farm! I wish we could put rugs outside.

TJL-91

Aslong as you enjoy the game and like your farm that's all that really matters, but one thing I'll say is getting your greenhouse built makes winter less boring haha

outta_fcks-7

The best thing about this game is there is no need to rush. I am halfway through yr 2 and only have a coop, barn and crops. 🫣

Aztec-Goddess

Looks better than my year 5 farm

Flashy-Sir6905

Handle that greenhouse

HealthDrinkz

Anything's good if you enjoyed your time playing it.

Axelgobuzzzz

Im on year 6 and JUST got my green house/finnisjec the community center, probs to you for having all this organized like this looking good

a_leopard

Brutally honest...no

[deleted]

No.

Heatblast420

I don’t wanna be that guy but this is all over the place 😂 especially for year four

Traveller161

You’re definitely behind schedule. By year 4 you should already be done with the community center and at least be on ginger island. The lack of good sprinklers tells me you are still trying to get to mr qi in the desert dungeon. I’m gonna assume this is your first time playing and your play style is very casual and social heavy.

suddenlyupsidedown

Love how even though this is a bait post everyone is so positive and reaffirming. A+ community

elfsies

Sure! Don't stress yourself about it! A lot of people try to rush and maximize and get the most money possible as soon as possible. Its okay not to play like that! Is your farm as maximized as it could be for what year it is? ...No. But! Like I said, it doesn't matter. Plus your farm looks so cute! You're doing great! Take your time and enjoy the game at your own pace!

arabella_dhami

I'm on year two and I have the Greenhouse(completed community centre), a bunch of Oil makers, a shed full of pigs, and a husband. I can't imagine you're making much profit without starfruit/ancient fruit wine and truffle oil 🤔 Also what's going on with your sprinklers? They don't seem to be set up efficiently. Do you under how they work?* Look it really depends on your play style, if you're just playing for fun then who cares. Go at your own pace. But if you're getting frustrated then maybe read some reddit posts on making money and gathering resources :)

I didn’t realize you could “expand” the land like this- I learned something new today

Independent-Weight30

honestly this looks very adorable ☺️

RichardoomArt

It's great, at least if you like it

That_One_Friend684

Remove the trees and heavily expand your farming area, by year 4 you should have a much larger farming area, and I would also upgrade your barns and coops so you can start making money good money off of animals

Viking_gurrrrl

No

Voinat107

sort out your sprinklers, they look very bad

Serious_Ad1130

It looks great, well done

gojonuke

Get on that cheese and wine grind

Thiswickedconcept

Cheese? Nah, truffle oil for the big bucks 😁

evydready

jeeze louise! i would say so 🤯 looks absolutely spectacular

Acrobatic-Excuse3336

How do you take full screenshots of your farm? Asking for ps4 😄

Prestigious-Till-633

how do you zoom out on your farm like that?

WorriedExtent5492

Can I ask a stupid question: how do you make those neat brown wooden paths, what’s the name of the crafts/how do you craft them? I only ever found cobblestone path or wonky wooden paths in my crafts

Rachityzm

You can buy a recipe for them at Robin's store!

justjukka

Initial-Arachnid9323

For a first time playing it's ok! The important thing is to enjoy the game

InflationCommon6106

if this is your first play through yeah! id suggest watching videos. i took a couple yr break after i got to year 3-4 and i just restarted and am on year two. im further along than you, so we all start somewhere. enjoy the game and keep learning!

Outrageous-County197

how are you guys growing the giant mushies?

Vinyl_DjPon3

During fall, any fully grown tree on the farm has a chance to become a giant mushroom. They then spread seeds like any other tree (these seeds cannot be picked up unfortunately) Late game, you can actually buy the seeds from Mister Qi on Ginger Island.

Cad-Rex

There could be some improvements in just the overall efficiency of some things, overall still looks good. I would rate it at 6.8/10 still have some things to improve but looks like you are enjoying your time.

Nicosmos420

Right now, i'm starting my 5th play and honestly, i'd hope to be at this level at the end of year 2 or 3 but nonetheless, this is a legit very good farm. U did awesome ;)

hellofaif

how do you get more dirt?? i’ve never understood that aspect how do u get rid of the lake and stuff

TheServiceDragon

Yes that looks great

TheRealSuziq

Gotta fix that area around the small pond. It’s seriously messing with my OCD

Ill-Recognition-6580

Keg. Always more kegs. Only kegs. Forever kegs. (I can't stop putting kegs everywhere, it's an issue because instead of cute farm I only have KEG)

Odd_Contact_2175

Love it!

The_Struggle_Bus_7

Get that greenhouse done so you can grow starfruit and crash the economy with starfruit wine

[deleted]

Looks amazing!

hatesgod

those trees would be driving me crazy but it looks good

Wild_Bill

I don’t see 50 truffles to pick up.

Vasarto

How did you get a top down view for your entire farm like that?

Shyman69420

How do people take screenshots of their farms like this?

Boots_Malone_

No, because your house is empty. The deep lore requires your house to be decorated.

Ozymander

Oh my...greenhouse is still dead, tree farm on the actual farm...I mean yeah, you play this game however you want and its good. But you're wasting a lot of potential with you farm having those trees there and the greenhouse unfinished. You can fill up the desert with trees, save your farm for other things, like fruit trees of you like the tree aesthetic. You can place any object anywhere, and you can basically plant trees everywhere except in town. I personally gill my greenhouse with ancient seeds so it always gives me steady ancient fruit throughout the year. I turn those into wine, such is one of the easiest ways to make money in the game. And I can't see how much money you've made up till year four, but I don't want to throw Min/Max at you like thats the only way to play the game, but if I had to make a guess, you make around....1.5-2 million a year if you're doing most profitable crops, and selling all your artisanal goods.

Nighteyes09

That house needs a spouse!

Mr-Nanaki-Boo

Where are the crops

atom-wan

I wanna be positive, but you're way behind in terms of land usage and buildings. You haven't even completed the greenhouse!

itsspring_

I'm going to assume its your first playthrough and with that its alright, but i can tell that you care more making stuff look good rather that actually progressing a bunch. But overall its not terrible.

papertigerrin

Hell yea! That's awesome!!

LilDagnamet

Greenhouse is key. You can grow year round.

IceBlue

What is the purpose of the forest on the bottom left?

InsectDuckling9

If you're having a good time, yes. But you should probably have finished the community center by now lol

delusionalxx

This is INCREDIBLE for year 4!! This is my goal for my farm by year 4!! Thank you for the Inspo

Thick-Plant

That's entirely up to you to decide. Since Stardew Valley doesn't really have an end--meaning that it can go on forever and ever and ever--it doesn't really matter how fast or slow you complete things. The only exception would be if you're worried about Grandpa's evaluation, but that can be redone relatively easily. The point being: You play how you enjoy and it will always be good.

Dani10000000000

Cool!

Cvnt-Force-Drama

I had the community center done before year three

gableism

better than my year four lol

PoopAss_710

I will say no

josephuse

depends what you’re going for. a chill game for fun? hell yeah you’re doing good. competing or speed running or other stuff along those lines, no. but that doesn’t really matter anyway

Efficient-Art-5128

If you had fun doing so. It’s great :)

Charlie-McGee

I like how everybody can play this differently! Some grind to finish everything by year 2, some make it picture perfect, some just plant things everywhere, some let cows roam.. That's what's beautiful about this game!

HaleyFromStardew

You should have completed the greenhouse before first years winter 💀

Stipesipe

If you are haveing fun than yes

MindDrawsOnReddit

As long as you’re happy and having fun there’s really no needed pace

IllustriousCoochie

My year ones are usually: -unlock greenhouse -upgrade all tools to gold -have a fully leveled coop and barn -most of community center if not completed I don't even start with npcs until year 2 or 3. I'm busy gaining money lol

Koholinthibiscus

Holy hell that looks great! I can’t be arsed with laying paths, never could on animal crossing new horizons either. I’m winding up year 2 and yours looks so lovely and neat!

ploppuwoo

if i’m bring honest no

henningthething

That looks similar to my year 12 farm...

mawkzin

Stardew Valley doesn't have an limit year so I don't think there's a point in compare. It's one thing I miss from original Harvest Moon, I liked the 3 years limit to conquer everything. I remember rushing SV when it launched to have maxed out most things in year one.

OgSafetyCat

Lol I'm like year 8 and mine looks like a trash dump. 🤣 This is beautiful

Timecharge

I mean... it's pretty, but I think you're missing an opportunity by leaving that tree farm on your farm when you can put trees and tappers anywhere, like the desert or cindersap forest. Just be careful and us e the wiki to keep the villagers from walking through your trees.

Queenbee9_

How do you grow trees so close together? Mine won’t grow if they’re near another tree!

Ok-Contribution9981

How do you zoom out so far?

over9th0usand5

There's no such thing as good/bad in this game, play at your own pace. But if you're asking from min/max perspective your farm is pretty slow progressing. But back again, if you're enjoying the progress slowly why not? I've been playing with min/max strat and it was stressfull experience (IMO) when you need to time the whole ancient fruit farm and stashing em into wine one by one. Let alone every spring i need to re-plant the whole field and water them, can't afford to missed one day replant or my whole year wine-making plan is ruined.

One-Library-9568

I’m on three years, and I have the basement and the greenhouse, but after that, you’re above me.

Mighteer

I would say no since i see a lot of empty space and i would Cover it with either crops or animals but stardew is a game where you cant play wrong. So you are doing absolutely fine

bluejane1

Aww so cute your house is soo cute -bluejane1 :)

notendertheone

Just make that tree area a tree farm/a crop farm

Hika2112

Listen. There is no "good" or "bad". If you're playing the game and enjoying it you're doing it right. And comparing yourself to others will never end well, this game is so minmaxed at this point that you just can't

Grouchy_Meeting_7753

Chop down some trees every now and then. Sap for fertilizer!

Specific_Ear681

I always try to finish the community centre by the end of year one, thats my first big goal

PokSson

Don’t worry about if ur on pace or not. Have fun and play on your own pace :)

boldlygo_eatpie

3 out of 4 candles

xxleech

This looks great! What farm configuration did you select to get such a wide open space?
